"Just because you can fit something in a certain place, doesn't mean you should put it there" That's true wisdom right there
He's channeling the life lessons he learned from that crazy ex girlfriend of his.
I glad I'm not the only one who went there!
you mean he WASN'T talking about bud light?
it’s 38 Super in a .38 revolver again 😊
Yes, like putting peas up your nose, or as the old song goes, beans in your ears.
Lesson to all you youngsters. "Just because something will fit in a certain place, doesn't mean you should put it there". A lesson many learn the hard way😂
This is probably the one and only lesson you can't learn in any other way but hard. 🤣
@@GashimahironChl Well, you ain't gonna lurn it soft! 🤣🤣
As a gun store owner, thank you for an excellent presentation.
Kinda makes me think Paul could make a killing just getting common complaints about customer questions from gun shop people and making response vids.
Paul would have made an excellent attorney .
You mean Chief Justice don't you?
@@chadrichard6388heck he would have made a great president/general/instructor/teacher and so on.
Thank you for all that you do and for the integrity with which you do it.
Thanks Paul. I knew that but obviously many people did not. I tell folks to just go with what is engraved into the barrel.
Well said.... thank you..... and as always.... Take care and God bless

"Just because something will fit into a certain place, does NOT mean you should put it in there."-My wife and I literally DIED! Mr. Harrell has won the internet! True words of wisdom!🤣
Have you seen any of the lock picking lawyer's April Fools videos?
"Just because you can, doesn't mean you should!". Hilarious and entertaining! Thanks, Paul!
The ending advice was the best part of the video lol
Yeah 😂
😂 the LGBT XYZ whatever community just got roasted with that advice
Firearms knowledge combined with a good life lesson at the end !
Rock on Paul !
At 80 I guess I can still learn things. I never put a 3inch round in a 2 3/4 gun just because I didn't think I should. Thanks for showing me why. Keep the videos coming I sure look forward to them.
Really old 16 gauge shotguns have 2 9/16 " chambers and newer ones have 2 3/4". Most available shells are for the newer ones.
The ending at 10:10! The same advice dear old dad gave me when I was a hormone raging teenager. He even did the same hand gestures that dad did! 😂 That’s what’s so great about Paul. Top notch firearms information. And lessons for life.
Waiting for them to try and cancel Paul for being "homophobic". Which he probably doesn't care about since he has a terminal illness anyway. 😂
@@govols1995 😂
Just 'cuz it will fit... 🤣🤣🤣
Is he from the same generation? They had a lot of wisdom👍
@@vdog4799 Actually, I’m just guessing here, but I think I’m about the same age as Paul. I just turned 57. Now, I’m not in any way trying to say “I’m like Paul Harrell”, but in some ways he does remind me a lot of myself. And since we are a product of our upbringing a lot of the times, things that Paul says reminds me of things I would say. And I get that stuff from my dad.
I enjoy watching your educational videos thank you for being what we all call an expert
Thanks for the prize Paul. I sent my social security number and bank routing number. Can't wait to get the prize.
Hey Tim, check your bank balance now. You may have already received the prize! 😂
Paul rocks.
that final advice is a good point to live by.
“Just because something will fit doesn’t mean you should put it in there.” Excellent advice.
Great video as always, thank you very much. As a youngster hunting turkey in the early 1980s with several old, family-owned, 12-gauge side-by-sides lacking chamber markings (probably all 2 ¾ as they were manufactured before 1920), I would use 3 inch and sometimes 3.5 shells in these weapons as I thought bigger was certainly better. I never experienced a problem shooting one or two oversized rounds each fall and spring season, and having great success, I never thought a thing about it. Years later and after the advent of the internet, I bought a Charles Daly by Miroku with barrels stamped, “2 ¾ inch shells”. I did a bit of research and would like to offer this tip to those w/o similarly marked shotguns. Using a 3x5 card rolled lengthwise, insert it into the chamber until it slows or sticks. Mark the card with a pencil at the breech, withdraw, measure, subtract ¼ inch or so for the crimp, and there is your weapon’s intended chambering. Thanks again, Paul!
Thank you for the idea.
Could have just as easily been a 2.5 chamber in guns that old
Nice tip. 👍
The analogy at the end was pure gold!
We are all praying for your Full and Expedient recovery
Since I don't like getting hurt & I don't like being in the ER, I'd never consider doing anything that may be dangerous, especially with firearms. It ain't worth it. Thanks for presenting information that is useful for those who would.
No chronograph
No meat target
No bearing with gunfire you hear in the background
But still top class!!
Thanks Paul

I see you giving GunSam ammo, we all come here at the end.
@@rob.3575 Paul and GunSam are my favorites for sure Paul said he is backlogged w stuff to film.
Yes. Fresh Uncle Paul. Time to get cozy with some knowledge.
Learned this lesson the hard way when i discovered that .22s .22L and .22LR were all different cartridges. I figured a .22 is a .22. Granted i was 14 or so at the time, but i was still stupid. Loaded my fathers favorite .22s (a semi auto of some flavor) with .22LR, and went out to shoot at squirrels.
A couple of malfunction, and some unintended automatic fire, the rifle jammed and i was unable to clear it. Had to go home, and tell my dad "i broke your .22." He broke it down and hammered the bent .22LR out. He laughed and told me "you put the wrong ammo in, check it first."
I never forgot that lesson. In fact, every .22 i own now will accept all 3, just because of this screw up.
Come on guys, we got to get paul to 800,000 subs. It's been forever since the last FAQ video. Keep up the great work Paul 👍
Excellent explanation, and nice of you to do this for one of the gun stores that helps you out……though without sound, that hand puppet part would have been slightly creepy. 😀😀
If I lived out there, I’d totally go to any of the stores you deal with, I’d also drive an hour to see your gun table, but it’s like 11 hours from Montreal.😢
Dang, I wanted to see Paul try to put the fired 3 inch hull in the 2 3/4 inch chamber, I am pretty sure this is the first time I have seen Paul overlook an opportunity to reinforce a lesson.
No risk of injury when inserting an already fired shell.
@@gregb6469you really really need to watch every video Paul puts out, twice. Because based on your comment you need all the education you can get about firearms. As JF already so intelligently noted there is no danger of an ALREADY FIRED SHELL causing damage or injury.
The fact that (for me) UA-cam played a Pop-Tart ad before the video is just beautiful.
That was lucky. I got no Pop Tart ad.
"Just because it fits, that doesn't mean I can put it in there?" Dang, if I'd followed this wisdom in my young life, I would have so many fewer regrets today! Thanks for the informative and humorous video! :)
I always learn something new from Paul. Thank you.
Mr. Harrell!! Now THIS is a great start to the work week! 🎉😊
I might make the trip to come up and see you. I'm near the bootheel in Missouri. Moved here from California in January. Love this place aside from the hot August heat. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Seeing Paul Harrell with a Strongbadia Flag behind him was the crossover I did not know I needed.
Since I don't own or shoot any firearms, I always assume the shell length was the length of the shell before it was fired. I can see how new shotgun owners could be confused about the shell lengths. I knew about the shell expansion before because I have found used shells.
Just to blow your mind there's also this not entirely uncommon (in Europe) older chambering called "2 1/2 English" which is not a good thing to put 2 3/4 shells in for exactly the same reasoning.
And remember that not all shells are crimped equally. Depending on brand and type of loading (full power buckshot vs ultra low recoil trap loads) there can be quite a bit of variation. My Mossberg takes 5 2 3/4" shells in the tube, so long as they are Federal, Winchester or Remington; some imported shells, it holds four. The imports are 3/16ths longer crimped. Fired, they're all the same size.
You have never seen a picture of a crimped end of a shot shell?
Another little word of wisdom? Fire always what your gun was designed for. Always read the owner's manuals.
You know? A Firearm stamped with .223 Rem you should not fire 5.56 Nato rounds through it. You can fire .223 Rem safely out of a Firearm designed for 5.56 Nato though.
In the case of shotguns though. You are creating too much chamber pressures firing a 3 inch out of a 2 3/4 inch camber. I mean you already have a choke at the end of the barrel totally designed for the desired pattern of the shot after it already starts spreading. All guns are pressure tested or should be before they ever end up on a store rack.
Yeah Nato rounds and even more confusing is pistol rounds. +P and +P+ you really need to do research and always read your owner's manual that comes with the Firearm. And never ever fire a Firearm out of the box. Always clean it first and work the action a quite a bit. Buy some dummy rounds or use empty casings to make sure it works as it should. What else you got to do watching TV?
The problem with things like 2 1/2" English guns is that they are way past being associated with the manual, and the ones I've seen aren't marked as such. You gotta get out the micrometer and check. When in doubt, I always consult a real gunsmith. @@daveweed2765
Videos like this is why I love Paul's channel. When dealing with new gun owners or certain platforms, I always refer them to this channel and to watch all the videos they can on what has to deal with their firearms or what they plan to do. Paul just has a gift of teaching in a way I feel is very effective.
8:03 Love the flag of Strong Badia hung up in the office.
Cracked me up. Was not something I expected to see when I clicked this video haha.
Thanks, Paul, for the entertainment this evening.
hope you have a good one.
I've been shooting for over fifty years, but you managed to teach me something new. Very informative video. Thumbs up!
Great offering, Paul! Thanks for the great content.
The only thing better than a new Paul Harrell video, is getting paid to watch it at work.
3:40 Somebody needs to make a compilation of Paul saying “Nuh uh”
Just bought my first shotgun, this is good information! Thanks for making quality content, as always.
Welcome to the club. Im up to 5, cause my 870 needed a 20 gauge sxs brother, which needed an over under 12 ga friend, which then asked for a trap gun girlfriend and then i needed an auto loader so no shenanigans would happen between them all.
@@davidjftooley Thanks! I hope to be there one day lol. Unless I come across a Browning A5 (genuine or decent replica), my next one will almost certainly be a coach gun.
I have a box of really nice turkey shells that I have absolutely no use for because I didn't check the box carefully enough, and I don't own a shotgun that will even take a barrel with a 3.5" chamber. At least it was before THE EVENT and they weren't painfully expensive.
@@chrisseger2346 ive had my stoger coach for going on 20 years, never has given me an issue and has thousands of rounds in it. Ive actually used it for skeet lol.
I'm going to teach you a little something about firearms. Every time you buy a new gun, expect your wife to buy a new handbag/shoes/dress/makeup or a combination of those things equalling the amount you spend on that gun or more.

Paul I hope the 'seasoned trolls' who are attracted to your content 'face up' and meet you at the meeting in the Ozarks city. But I bet these faceless, shameless, idiotic, nameless fools wouldn't be brave enough to be real people in a 'real life' setting. I have had this same discussion, countless times with people... Putting the longer shells in your shotgun, will create "The Mother of All Barrel Obstructions" or a "Darwin Award"... Take Your Pick.
Thanks Paul. Keep up the Great Work... 👍👍👍
I’ve never attempted to put a 3 into a 2 3/4 but this is such a good and thorough explanation as to why not to do it. Thanks for going over this topic, Paul.
Ifn they be a bear squeezing his butt through your prospecting shack winder. And you got only 3in, for your 2 n3/4. Load it and kill the bear. Otherwise no. Don't do it.
Awesome presentation, as always. Thank you, Paul. I love your actual content, but I think I most value watching you present, and try to apply that type of concise confidence to the way I present myself professionally.
Thanks for all the hard work Paul.
Hope you are doing well Paul Harrell. That last bit of advice is really solid for most of your neighbors on the west coast.
Brilliant review, Ty. Love the artwork explanation. Reminds of the cliff drawing here in Texas' Seminole Canyon. And, I wont be sticking it were it doesn't belong. Hahahahahahaha...
It's videos like this that you can learn from. And Paul explains it most people can understand. Thank you Paul and your crew for all your hard work and time. Y'all are very appreciated Sir!
Can we get a short of that last part, I feel like alot of people need that sage advice.
I'm glad to see that the team supports the greatest nation on earth. God bless Strongbadia
This is certainly the definitive video explaining the concept, now I just gotta go figure out why someone would make a 2 3/4 inch chamber in the first place
Loved this segment. Very entertaining, Paul! This is why I made sure that mine would take 3 inch, allowing it to accommodate all sizes.
Just don't try a 3½" magnum. 😅
@@matthewbeaver5026 For sure! 😅😅
Yep - Likewise. And the same reason my ARs all have 5.56 barrels. "Having a 3 inch 12 gauge means never having to care if it's a 2-3/4 or 3 incher you're stuffing into it, same as having a 5.56 barrel means never having to care if it's .223 or 5.56 in the mag.
Except 3.5 inch shells
10:12 😂 Paul you are my hero! The professor I wish I had at some point in my educational or Firearms careers! 👏
I dont care what you say, that's some fine art you made.
Thank you for sharing more of your experiences with us Mr. Harrell.
Great instruction as always Paul.
I didn't know that this was an issue, that is people not knowing the interchangeability. I just never thought about exactly why it wasn't safe. My basic rule is only use the ammo size(s) stamped on the barrel and you'll be safe.
You gave me a valuable information, I have to go check the manual before too late. Thank you
Great video, thank you. I have had this exact discussion enough with people that it for sure needed someone to explain it. Good Job.
Perhaps Federal, Winchester, or Remington could test the pressures when a 3 inch was fired in one of their 2 3/4 inch test barrels. In addition to tearing the shell case apart I'd bet the pressures would be exorbitantly high.
Can you do a video discussing and demonstrating the pros and cons of all the various types of casings: the effects on the firearm, possible effects on the projectile, etc? Your insight can definitely expand on more than just the obvious. Thank you to you and the crew for the many years of great content.
I wondered when that joke was coming. Well played! Love it. Your channel is awesome. You put out excellent material and find a way to add humor. Thank you.
Excellent. I never knew this, it never occurred to me to try a 3" magnum round in a 2 3/4" chambered gun. Then again except for an old 12 ga. double I got from my grandfather I've never owned a 2 3/4" shotgun and I had no intention of ever putting a magnum load in my grandfather's old shotgun.
Now that what I call the correct way of thinking!
🤣@@minerblue9641
Man you make great videos !
Can't wait to see you in Lake Ozark! Thank You once again for an informative and enjoyable presentation. I love all your videos!
Seriously...very good presentation, and I learned something I didn't know! Thanks!
I was behind a guy at the Sporting Goods store, that was rudely and aggressively asking for some " bullets" for his shotgun. The store employee asked him what " shells" the he was specifically interested in. He didn't even know what gauge that he needed, whether or not he needed birdshot, buckshot, slugs, etc. Again he yelled at the employee "Just give me the biggest available ". I spent an hour with the guy to give him a basic education.
You're more patient than I am. I would have handed him anything 2-3/4". He wouldn't know the difference anyway.
@@craigbenz4835 These kind of guys are the ones the really worry me, at public shooting ranges. Newbies with shotguns can be the worst.
I was on a store when a fellow walked up wanting a magazine for his pistol, he had no idea the make model or caliber. Nor did he have the firearm with him, but he expected the guy behind the counter to provide him with a mag😂
@@johnnyadams1755 That's hilarious. I'm 100% pro 2A, but some people make me wonder how to respectfully educate them, before they become a liability to themselves or others.

Hi Paul - your videos never get old. Enjoy them all.
Hey Paul! Thanks so much for that explanation. I appreciate it!
Excellent explanation Paul. Now can you explain why a 2x4 isn’t 2 inches by 4 inches 👍

For the algorithm
Wishing you the best of health and appreciate another video.
Very well done sir. Thank you for addressing this particular controversy.
Monday just got a lot better.
My (occasionally) dumbass dad used to shoot 3" magnum 00 buck through a pre-WW2 WINCHESTER MODEL 12, 2¾", full choke. The 3" shell always had shredded ends, & eventually the barrel split at the choke constriction.
Great show! Keep up the good work
God bless you, Paul. Thanks for all the education you’ve given me.
Appreciate you and your crew Mr. Harrell, you are looking great !!! Blessings to y’all !!!

Would 3" slugs be more accurate than 2 3/4" slugs because there is less travel down the forcing cone 🤔
They are for sure when shooting sabot slugs in my experience, but I've never tested with shot
Probably, but the only way to be sure is to test your shotgun and ammunition.
2 3/4 and 3 inch have one thing in common. They both go boom boom when your finger moves back and forth. Enough said.
Wouldn't that be a semiauto with a binary trigger?
