Her story requires a string of unlikely events, each unlikely in their own right, but nearly impossible in combination
    - Her 5 ng/mL nandrolone result (in A/B samples) is higher than could possibly come from boar/pig meat or stomach, max of ~2ng/mL is possible (it would require consuming wild boar liver, which was not served at the truck, and Shelby's team never argued that liver could have been in the product she consumed)
    - She ordered a beef burrito (so already, they need to mess up the order to give her pig stomach, which as above could not have caused the adverse effect anyways)
    - The USDA pork experts said mistakes are very rare in the US pork supply chain, which means the chances of the nandrolone in Houlihan’s sample coming from contaminated pork were “near zero.” Shelby's team did not contest this statement. Maybe they should have, but they didn't. Saying liver somehow made it in there would be more conceivable, but given they didn't argue this, it seems especially unlikely.
    - Shelby claims she passed a polygraph, but actually, the questions asked during the polygraph were oddly constructed allowing her to have doped and still answer truthfully
    - It's possible she's innocent, as no one can definitively prove 100% any doping claim, but it is so extremely unlikely.
    - She is welcome to compete and set unsanctioned records in events like the beer mile. That is fine. The women's beer mile record was extremely soft, but she just smashed it, and made it very respectable. Good on her for staying fit and competing within the limits of the rules. I wish she came clean. I don't believe the burrito story one bit. I would like to know the real reason she failed the test. Was it a shady suplement that she shouldn't have been taking anyways, but had nandralone and she didn't know it? That would be more believable, but for obvious reasons that isn't a good excuse.

This reminds me of CJ Hunter, he was massively guilty on other fronts, who decided to take Vitamins to help with a case of feeling tired. He got a number of positives and CONTE of BALCO fame, determined the cause was the Vitamin line sharing a factory with a Birth control pill line. I don't know what nandrolones are used for, but a case of cross contamination is a possibility.
Pork is cheaper than Beef, and the US food chain is notorious for cheaper products being substituted. Given she ordered the burrito from a truck, the odds of substitution go up dramatically, including items not fit for consumption.
(None of this means she is innocent on other fronts, CJ Hunter is the prime example of some one who was massively guilty on other fronts.)

    • @bluntandy
      @bluntandy Рік тому +1

The burrito is highly unlikely. The string of eating uncastrated boar meat in a beef burrito is less than 0.01%
For her level it's much more likely that she took androstenedione which in the US you can buy over the counter. The surprise is that the "supplements" contained the actual substance

How did you estimate 0.01% ?

If she had microdosed during 2020 when there was no testing, then any test prior to Dec 15 should have also been positive. USADA's web site shows 6 samples collected from her in 4th quarter of 2020, so presumably 3 urine samples. I'm inclined to believe other explanations in the scientific literature that have not been discussed publicly. See Phillip Watson 2009 paper and Jiahui Wu 2024 paper.

I've been practicing running on track for several years. I was even not at notional level. You do your best to win. But sometimes it doesn't work. And it's OK. For a genuine athlete, the challenge is against yourself, not so much against others. Now I am getting too old to compete. But I can look myself in the mirror because I never cheated. I know thought I've been running against who were on drug. For a clean athlete who has ambitions, the period is difficult because I am sure there more cheaters than ever on tracks. It's a problem of so called advanced countries in democracy and human rights. With me, there would be no mercy for the cheaters : they sould be banned for life, and tey should spend some time in jail ! That would limit the temptation of cheating.

Its pretty bad the punishment she received for a simple mistake anybody could make and it undoubtedly should have been looked at more carefully and empathetically. Zero tolerance for the real cheaters, however there needs needs needs to be better deciphering of who is actually cheating. In this particular case I think itd be fair to just suspend her until her levels are normal and maybe monitor the levels so this doesnt happen again. Just because youre a professional athlete doesnt automatically mean you know everything and nor does any person in regards to anything, so holding her to such a high standard of excellence is extremely unfair. In all seriousness, I'm of the mind that all professional athletes are doping to one extent or another ... and that only the most egregious (or stupid) get caught. So I don't really care that they aren't natural, but I do care about blatant lies or terrible excuses. Christian Coleman, I'm also talking about you.
Anyway, good luck to her. Maybe she'll return to sanctioned events in 2025. Just be sure to go easy on the pork offal ...

She's still getting tested, I think at least 3 this year so far.

Who is testing her & how can they definitively prove they can safely predict the future & present evidence she is definitely going to compete again ?
Other than that, do they have a bill of sale that proves she is less than human & is therefore livestock that they own & are free to test as they wish ?
Even at that, there are laws against doing unsanctioned medical experiments on animals.

@@SPIDERM0OSE i have no idea what you are saying...anyways, USADA maintains a public record of all tests, and she has in fact been tested at least 6 times YTD

Good for her. Most people would quit. I have hope she is starting anew and clean.. and if she’s caught that’s her fault but until then? Innocent until
    Proven guilty

Every single athlete accused of doping denies it; so her claim of innocence is beside the point. But think about it, f the USATF thought a white female athlete was innocent, they would spare no expense proving it. They obviously think she's guilty.

As for your outro. You should look into: no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Therese_Johaug - She came back even stronger after being doping banned.
