  • "Arpoboe" is a captivating composition by Maciej Zielinski, intricately crafted for oboe, harp, and two distinct orchestral ensembles. In this innovative piece, each soloist is accompanied by their own orchestral group, symmetrically positioned on opposite sides of the stage. The interaction among the musicians goes beyond conventional dialogue, as soloists not only engage with each other but also with their respective orchestras, creating dynamic layers of sound, sometimes coexisting, sometimes creating parallel actions.
Zielinski's fascination with quantum theory and its implications, including the concept of parallel worlds, informs the thematic underpinning of "Arpoboe." Inspired directly by Lucy Kerr's film "Family Portrait," which employs a unique formal technique of presenting simultaneous yet distinct actions, the composition explores similar territory. Like Kerr's approach, "Arpoboe" features moments where different musical layers unfold simultaneously, echoing the parallel actions depicted in the film. Initially, the actions of the two instrumental groups are independent, overlapping only slightly. However, as the composition progresses, they gradually align with each other, culminating in synchronization towards the end.
Performed by renowned musicians Marek Mleczko on oboe and Agnieszka Kaczmarek-Bialic on harp, accompanied by the Gorzów Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Lilianna Krych, "Arpoboe" offers an intriguing journey through original formal concepts and unique music configurations. It presents a thought-provoking exploration of parallelism and musical dialogue, inviting listeners to immerse themselves in its richly layered sonic landscape.
