Advancing with Watercolor: Edges "Shimmering Light on Water"
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 жов 2024
- This is a video done as a supplement to a watercolor class taught by Gary Tucker in Boston. This video demonstrates how an artist looks at their subject in terms of edges. Through a manipulation of edges we can portray atmosphere, the effects of light on different surfaces, and also create a more complete mood. These different edges are created through separate techniques in watercolor and by practicing them in drills and then in your motif you are closer to a mastery of this medium
A tutorial accompanying this video can be found here:

Great painting style, and also really good presentation: just the right pace to follow and no distracting music or silly clowning around. I got a lot out of this. Thanks.
Gary Tucker is a fantastic teacher. The value study is so important. Gary also has a class via the internet which’s fantastic.
One of the best watercolour tutorials I’ve seen on UA-cam. Learnt a lot. Thank you.
To my eye, the second sky is pure magic! The clouds are chasing across the sky! I enjoyed seeing the three different versions of the same picture....brilliant!
Masterful. There is a sparkle on the water! So inspiring. Thank you!
Qué vídeo tan fantástico! Muchas gracias, Gary. What a fantastic video! Thanck you very much, Gary.
He didn't use anything extra. Just his technique and expertise to make the water shimmer. A master at work.
I'm just starting to work with ocean scenes and don't have a clue. Working with too many colors is the first thing I'll change. Controlling the ratio of water to paint is another struggle. This was so helpful (and beautiful!) in showing a way forward for me. Thank you.
You are great. I really liked it.The sparkles in the water are amazing.
So so beautiful !!!😍
Thank you so much for your teaching this difficult technique! ❤️
Great tutorial. To borrow from the great, Joseph Zbukvic: Tea or coffee paint consistency on damp paper for the clouds, milk or cream paint on dry paper for the ocean. Butter on dry for seagulls.
Simple but stunningly beautiful
Thanks for the tutorial. Can’t wait to try it. Love your technique.
Thank u so much for sharing ur shimering light demo. Its very useful for my paintings.

Armonia e simplicidade ! Puro talento. Parabéns!
omg ...speechless ... wonderful !!
Amy - thx for the feedback
Never really the limited colored before. Somehow, it still turned out great! Wonderful demo, help me realized that nice watercolor can be done even just using one simple color with different tones! Less is more surely true in your style! Thanks. 🙌😃
This is fantastic, I cant wait to give it a go.
Magical. Great tutorial, Gary.
Minimalism and texture plus the viewers imagination is all that is required.

Wow. But need of so expensive paper as Arches?
Wow.!
Hello Gary. I do enjoy your UA-cam tutorials. I live in Australia and would like to know if you have an online course available in watercolour?
Good
Hello Gary, I am really enjoying to explore and to learn with your videos, thank you. One small question, the brush you use as a dry brush for the sea light is it a squirrel brush? Thank you once more. Best regards
I love your style...? Which materials do you use...?..
Materials are usually presented in the description below the video. Here is a link to my materials list www.garytuckerartist.com/gallery/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Materials-for-traveling-watercolorists.pdf
this good the water tecnic good ideal
Excellent artwork and an inspiration. But please answer me this question on a confusing matter: Why do Americans refer to tone (i.e the relative lightness or darkness of a colour) as its "value"? This is very confusing to Europeans who, for centuries, have used the relevant term TONE to describe this. "Value", to us, is the monetary worth of a commodity. In art "value" is quite meaningless, unless you are referring to what you expect a painting to sell for.
Semantics. We do use the word "value" as one of the "elements" of art. Tone is perfectly acceptable, but could also be thought of as a "principle" of art. The phrase, "What is the tone of the piece?" could be thought of as the "mood" or emotion.
Looks like the oregon or California coast
Superb
Excellent
Seems like one even I can do, although my first attempt was less than stellar! I will give it another try, after all, it's only paper, expensive, but paper none the less. One thing, you put the horizon smack dab in the middle of the paper, or doesn't that matter so much?
Hi!! What brands and number of pinceles do you use? Thanks
Did you use gouache for the white birds?
it's the beautiful Oregon coast
El último cuadro lo ha cambiado: trampa! No se puede abrir blancos, una vez seca la pintura!!!
