Great vid, Wyatt! It was a pleasure meeting you before the Uada set. This was my first year attending, and it was an absolute blast. But yeah, the upstairs vocal sound and the set delays were huge bummers. Blind Guardian was severely neutered by the sound, and the delays fucked me out of seeing Lacuna Coil and Gatecreeper.
I found out about MMF and your channel from your video last year and those were two of the best things I’ve done. This years festival was my first ever and it was fucking amazing, and I agree the lineup was good but could’ve been better. A lot of the bands playing were bands that’s I’ve heard stories of but I’d probably never get to see live, so I scooped up my ticket asap. It was easily one of the best experiences of my life, even with all the back pain, heat, and delays. It was great catching you while I was walking out on Sunday! Hopefully will be back again next year!
That Canadian concert Karen would have a stroke if that person went to this festival with the beach ball. I personally wish beach balls would be an integral part of even straightforward stand alone concerts. Would break up the monotony of headbanging and moshing/crowdsurfing only.
Caught Blind Guardian in Toronto a couple weeks ago and they played an AMAZING set, great mix of old and new songs. That being said I love their old stuff the most but The God Machine slaps so hard.
Another great video. Your quips & references are so smart & hilarious. Rabid bats in hell, echoes, bums in Priuses. But also honestly showing things that didn’t work well. Appreciate your deep knowledge of music and giving props to bands even when they aren’t in sub-genres that you like. Excellent channel
It was great meeting you that weekend! Also really sorry I was so high talking to you that 2nd time when you were going to get food and I was all spaced out, the weed just happened to hit me at that moment. lol
This was my first year and I plan on going again next year. I had kind of assumed metalheads were kind and what not but I didn’t expect the level of kindness there. I had a ton of fun and can’t wait for next year‘s lineup of bands. As long as they have it, I will be going. also, it’s cool. I’ve seen myself in the pit a few times. I was tall gentleman without a shirt on for most of the weekend because I overheated really quick in the pit.
Your video on the mmf from last year really got me super interested into going this year. I had a great time and am planning to come back next year with a few friends
Two weeks ago and I’m still riding the high from this festival. My only real complaints were the price of beer (I could always drink less haha) and the delay on Sunday did cause me to miss a handful of bands I wanted to see - otherwise flawless festival. According to Jasta attendance was actually up this year and the variety of bands was a huge plus - I saw 51 bands over 3 days, many of whom I hadn’t seen before and probably would not have gone out of my way to see them solo, can’t really beat that. Looking forward to next year - it’s only going to get bigger and better.
me and my brother were there for night one and loved it alot, we were almost worn out by the time blind guardian came on, i saw you taking pictures up front but i wasn't sure if it was you, glad you had a kickass time!
Fantastic review glad you didnt sugarcoat it at the end but going off the podcast with you and Jasta im sure he will nail it next year. Im trying to plan to get out there next year from the UK as it looks ideal for an metal head thats getting a bit older(35)😂
I saw you a couple times but you were filming so I left you alone haha. The delays were crazy and I missed a lot of bands I wanted to see but it was amazing. The rave is insane.
Jamey Jasta’s the goat, I’m pretty jazzed to see Hatebreed in October especially because I wasn’t able to be at MMF (or any other fest, sadly). Looked dope though, I always love these festival recap videos.
I was at metalfest, wish I saw you. I was in the mosh for the first set that Death to All did and got my ass beat. Also kinda sad that you didn't mention Monochromatic Black from day 3. From my experience at the Rave, that sound in the ballroom is a common thing with concerts there.
19:32 fucking eh! I was wondering if you'd end up catching Belushi speed ball live, probably one of my favorite discoveries last year. I stumbled upon a random live clip of one of their hometown shows and everyone was just slamming into each other and garbage was getting sprayed into the crowd it was awesome. I'd say bump em on album it bumps pretty good!
I usually go out of my way to avoid power metal bands. However, at festivals, they're damn fun! Especially when you're 4-6 beers in and just feel like cutting loose. Regardless, seemed it was a great time and had a good spread of bands.
I went to see Death to All, Lacuna, and Avatar. It was a little funny, scrambling from eating a burger at a (really good and close by) bar before hurrying to The Rave to the *very* noticeable delay you described in the vid, lel. After that hour of waiting, DtA came on and I immediately had to film their version of "Infernal Death." It was a little funny seeing the bassist whisper words in the vocalist's ear 'cause he was forgetting them, but I don't blame them; the dude's new. It was a good time, though, with Hoglan's drumming and the vocalist's mind-destroying shrieks and growls. Lacuna's set was pretty short, and I attribute that to the delays. It was a bunch of songs I hadn't heard from them before, but they put on a good performance. Special mention goes to Cristina Scabbia, no question. Avatar's set was *also* short, but it was packed with a few of their best hits. I'm a pretty big fan of Avatar, so seeing them in person, outside of a video, was a dream come true for me. I legit got giddy. Johannes Eckerström has this whimsy about him I find absolutely delightful, and the whole band looked like they were having fun. I saw more than a couple girls in clown makeup just for them. I can only afford to come to one day out of the weekend and see a few bands, but I'm glad you documented what I didn't get to see. I woulda loved to experience all those death and thrash acts for the first time; I've got a friend who'd be jealous if I saw Testament, 'cause that's a big fave of his.
Bittersweet video for me. I really wanted to go back for old times' sake, but I injured my back just in time to miss out. Dammit. I saw Overkill there in 1992. (not a metalfest, but I saw those too)
Would have been cool to see more merch available from the actual bands playing. I get that there’s a limited amount of space, but it seems like they could have had less of the vendors set up with tables of Amazon grab bag patches and bootleg shirts and allowed the bands to have more than just two shirt options and maybe a hat or CD. I saw a box of Possessed shirts down there that they weren’t allowed to sell and Skinless was selling some extra stuff from the hot sauce table. Set time delays are kinda to be expected, sucked that Devourment got cut short though. I wish the Saturday morning main stage death metal block could have been in the smaller rooms downstairs, but the sound wasn’t as bad up there as I was expecting. Jasta knows what he’s doing though, it was a great weekend and I’ll probably be back next year.
I saw Keanu Reeves in 92 at MMF. The circle with everyone flipping the bird was spectacular and a sight I'll never forget. He was also cool as fuk when he went into the crowd to watch afterwards and no one bothered him
Great you have kind of european style festivals now. The lineup is reallygreat. I am only missing a Bolt Thrower cover band :D. It's like Party-San Open Air with a bit of Power Metal. Okay, the (very good) beer there is 4€ for 0.4l.
If we ever meet, I will tell you the story of the riot I was involved in at milwaukee Metal Fest in 2008 during a Skinless set cause the security got a little too rough with the crowd.
This year was a blast! Overkill, Terrorizer, Deicide, Death to all and In Flames were all standouts for me. But Municipal Waste was the definite highlight of my weekend. Not only was their set awesome, but Tony Foresta threw trash can at me, which I astonishingly caught on camera! ua-cam.com/video/RWd4O-kpl58/v-deo.htmlsi=GlNDcZpZ3CuZM06P Saw you a few times, Wyatt. Wanted to say hello but you were either filming or in a hurry to get somewhere and I didn’t wanna be rude. Maybe next year?
I don’t live too far from Phil Anselmo (Pantera ) we need a Great Metal Festival down South , I wonder if i could get in touch with him at some point and try to get him to come up with something, i’ve run into him at the local Waffle House early in the morning he’s a cool 😎 dude i didn’t get all fan boy with him I’m about 3 years younger so we have run into each other over the years at different gigs and such in New Orleans but i don’t know how to get him to put something together here , i think if i run into him again I will just straight up say something about it to him
Yeah that so called ballroom is an old gymnasium. The acoustics are horrible. I went to one of the originals and the Rave sets were great but anything in the ballroom was a wall of noise. I passed on the chance to see Venom headline iirc bcs it hurts your head to try to listen. Acheron in the Rave was the most evil set after some long haired country boys from Kansas shared their home grown. It was like Sabbath
