I'm French and I'm slowly getting to know the true horrors of the revolution. As a young teen, I remember much of our history was quickly brushed off, but instead we learned about the Dreyfus case. In retrospect, why did we learn such an event compared to our broad world history or any french history that happened before the revolution for that matter?

If you haven't already you should really read Nesta Helen Webster's "The French revolution - A study in Democracy", "Secret societies and subversive movements" and "World revolution the plot against civilization". Also, "The French revolution in San Domingo" by Lothrop Stoddard. Godspeed.

I remember going to a big catholic conference in London. UK, with my uncle, aunt, and my daughter approx 23 years ago to hear Michael Davies speak. We’d heard about him then - he was so good. Like Michael Matt. I am so in awe of such great catholic defenders of the faith.
Ordinary folk always suffer. Let their memory last forever and souls RIP. For God and freedom. Thank you for this interesting true history lesson.
Thank you for such a wonderful history lesson! As a well-publicly schooled American, all I learned /knew of French Rev was “... something about the short guy Napoleon”?? Now as a Catholic convert homeschooling mom, I am delighted to share, and Learn, history w my children!

The French Revolution! Classic case of history being written by the victor. The truth has slowly come out, only to reveal what an abomination it really was. How could anything good come out of THAT?
@tiglath pileser Tell that to the people who were tortured, brutalized, raped, slaughtered and beheaded because they wouldn't renounce Christ or support the "revolution" (remember, the children of the nobility and royalty were tortured and killed, as were the servants and anyone suspected of being a counter revolutionary). The King had already decided that France needed to become a constitutional monarchy so positive changes would have happened without the murder and torture of hundreds of thousands of people, and destruction of a culture or the proto communism that was instituted as a result of the "revolution".

Loved the lecture about the Catholic uprising in the Vendee against the Anti-religious/Irreligious/Anti-clerical French Revolutionary government! It's too bad this event has almost been obliterated from History and is so unknown in the West...
Robert Freid it's not just catholic uprising. In my village Mouchamps (Vendée) the memorial in town centre shows names of recognised protestant shot in the Soubise Castle and in fights in chantonay, Cholet and River Lay shocks (shocks=fights in the dialect in the Vendée).

All of popular culture and public education would have us believe that the Revolution was good and the monarchy was evil. We *must* re-educate ourselves.
Admittedly the A-Level French Revolution and Napoleon course, touches on the Vendee, but focuses on the transformation of France from the Kingdom to Revolutionary and then Napoleonic France. Political, Social and Economic study, but little on the Counter-Revolutionary struggle.
Do they focus on the Centralisation of administration in Paris (a common theme among liberal governments)? I have read that the reason that the revolt succeeded was because the Government was so centralised around the King (which King Louis XVI was trying to solve after the many monetary issues thanks to the American Revolution) and so bringing the Nobles to Court. Which is why the areas which Edit:"Counter-"revolted were generally poor areas in which the Nobility stayed in their areas and farmed land (A dispensation considering generally nobles were not allowed to Farm.), such as the Vendée and Brittany I think.

What I was saying is that the counter-revolution is only mentioned as an event. Even if this was so significant as to be an annoyance for Napoleon and surely when you cover revolutions, the counter or anti-revolutionary aspect when it happens is just as significant as the revolution.
@@BRudy8466 Yeah I do not think we are in disagreement. I think Napoleon had to put down some Revolutions. He had to deal with the Vatican since there was a revival in the early 19th Century.

I've read/heard somewhere that the Catholic Patriots would yell/battle cry when engaging the enemy. Where can I find a recording of same or similar yell? I'm wondering if the Mexicans adopted that type of yell? You know, the type you hear when mariachis are playing. Mariachis developed during the time of the French occupation of Mexico.
