Petrik, this video is INCREDIBLE!!! I hope it gets a million views because I believe every single fantasy reader or person who wants to get into fantasy will find something for themselves here. I don't even want to imagine how much work this video was to construct from start to finish, but please know you are amazing and I appreciate your hard work so so much 🥰 Big hugs, Martyna
Paused during the intermission to say hello to Chocoboy and comment. I very much appreciated watching this video, noted down many recommendations (I think I've read perhaps 5 or 6 of the 50 books you mentioned so far) and prioritised some series which were on my TBR and you mentioned multiple times, specifically the Winnowing Flame trilogy. However, I was also deeply humbled by the amount of effort you put into this video - the vast repertoire of books you have read in so many subgenres, your ability to assimilate the characters and stories in these books and to share them with us in such an accessible manner. It takes tremendous skill as a reader and content creator - massive respect to you. I wish that this video gets all the engagement it deserves, your channel continues to grow and you continue to enjoy reading and sharing your knowledge with us. Okay, back to watching and taking notes. See you Chocoboy - your pawrent is awesome!😄
I'll say hello to Choco boy for you, Paromita! Thank you so much for watching the video, and I'm glad The Winnowing Flame trilogy will become one of your priority TBR. It's such an amazing series. The video took me hours and days to do, but I had fun planning and creating it, even if it tired the heck out of me hahaha. Anyway, thank you for the kind words! Fingers crossed people will find and love this video! :)
OMG YES!!! “Honor is dead, but I’ll see what I can do” gives me legitimate goosebumps every time I read it. The only quote that gets me more emotional is “you cannot have my pain” that scene made me cry hard
I did it, watched the whole thing! It was so epic, well done and thank you. I don't know how you did it, you didn't even slow down the whole time and I loved the choco boy intermission!
I have just this past hour finished reading Warbreaker, and seeing you choose it for the "Trust issues" prompt - I couldn't agree more. Not just one betrayal, several with continuingly heavier impacts! Amazing book.
I finally got time to watch this, and it was so much fun to watch! As you know, I completely agree with you about the urge to reread Malazan. In fact, I just finished my reread, and it hit me even harder the second time. Thanks for this, my friend!
I teared up when you pulled out Oathbringer. That book... That book... Additionally, whoooo! Finally done with the video. 1 hour, man. 1 hour. Great work.
I can't believe I watched this entire video, but I couldn't stop! I had already quite a few of these books on my TBR (or already read) but you officially convinced me to add The Greenbone Saga and the War For The Rose Throne series to the list! ☺️
An hour of Petrik talking Fantasy, yes please!! 😁 What an amazing video, well done for putting in so much work, we all really appreciate all you do for the fantasy community!
How much did I love this video, and even though it was an hour long, I was still eager to hear MORE recommendations from you once it was over! Thank you so much for your hard work, this video is an instant favorite and will surely help many fantasy readers! (Oh, and I also had fun guessing some of your recommendations based on the prompts which was an added layer of fun!)✨💖📚(And the Choco Boy intermission was genius!)
Loved seeing Choco Boy!! My doggie, Oliver, wishes him well and sends his love. Thank you for the time and research you put into this video. What an epic list! Im impressed you weren't hoarse at the end. If you have any "left over" prompts, I would love another video.
Thank you so much, Jennifer! That's very kind of you. And say hi to Oliver for me and Choco Boy, too! I still have many leftover prompts. If the video does well, I will make another one someday! :)
Thank you for this video. I have hand cramps, I sat here and wrote down 73 of the prompts and books to go with them. :) My tbr just got so much longer!
wow! I've added a bunch more books to my list. Thanks for doing this! I already have The First Binding preorder, and I'm counting down the days for it to arrive.
Hey patrik! Thanks a lot for this video, i think you're the youtuber i generally agree with the most, (well, i only followed you on goodreads until now but- yeah) i love love watching you talk about books bc of your enthusiasm that i relate to! I'm just really surprised no one wanted a book that feels like a ghibli movie! I would love a recommendation for that tbh. Oh, also, i was really excited for the family/sibling rec one bc i've been wanting a good one for that since i watched game of thrones too, and then you recommended GAME OF THRONES PATRIK.😂😂
Wow! Love Choco Boy! I had to laugh when I saw him during the intermission and took a sip of hot tea! LOL I've asked you about Name of the Wind in a previous video, but after hearing that he may never finish the trilogy, I must admit I'm less inclined to read it. There are so many books on this list I haven't read and might have to dedicate a few pages in my journal for them! Thanks for taking the time and making this video, Petrik! I really do appreciate it.
Thank you so much!! A fine choice to drink a sip of hot tea during the intermission! Yeah, I love The Name of the Wind, but there's really no rush to get to it, really. Especially if you're a reader who wants to read a completed series as soon as possible! xD
@@PetrikLeo Yes, that's a good way of saying it - really no rush to get to it! I am a reader who prefers to read completed series and/or reading from a writer who you KNOW will keep writing (a la Brandon Sanderson)!
I'm new to book tube and this video just solidified you as the uncontested greatest of all time in this niche! The algorithm keeps suggesting people who look one type of way and all talk about the same 5 books like they're just copy/pasting off each other 🤣 I don't mean to sound mean or like I'm throwing shade it's just not to my liking
What a sweet doggo! Thank you for this list. While it includes some of the usual suspects (Wheel of Time, Name of the Wind), it also gives some well-deserved shout-outs to high-quality books that don't get recommended or discussed as frequently and tips of the hat to gifted but less celebrated authors. I'll be watching it more than once to be sure I don't miss any interesting titles.
Thank you, Kelley! There are still many underrated/underhype books that need the shoutout. If I do another recommendation video like this, I'll mention them more often! 😄
#57 The Fatmarked Series by David Estes! I read the entire series in an entirely too small amount of time for the number of pages involved! I absolutely adored it! And I'm currently reading his Kingfall series! Additionally, I am NOT a re-reader, but I feel confident I will re-read ALL of these! I am a huge fan of how well he develops his characters. I find myself really rooting for all of them!
That's another series I still have to read. That and Kingfall Histories were my priority series this year, but I couldn't get around to reading them due to busy schedule! :')
Well damn! I'm excited to watch this entire thing. Just based off the title and description this sounds like it could be your best video. I spend a lot of time going on reddit and looking for specific types of books, so recommendations structured this way are always appreciated.
Awesomely done Petrik! Loved this video, and thank you for your hard work in curating this extensive list of fantasy books. It takes a very deep well of knowledge on the topic to be able to do this upon requests. Kudos to you. I am basically a romantasy reader, but your vids are helping me to explore a deeper dive into epic fantasy. I watched your vid on fantasy for beginners, and have taken several of your recommendations, thanks again.
Petrick this UA-cam video is truly Epic and it's like the Millenium Falcon takes the novice reader on a journey from the Black Holes of the unknown to an enlightening World of what to read in the Fantasy Genre. It is like you have transported people to a new realm of undiscovered knowledge, which is now available to the novice readers and the more accomplished. So Kudos to you for all your hard work and your perceived comprehension; regarding what you recommended to each and every one of us fantasy readers. Much respect for this Amazing Y.T video...
Aww thank you so much! Hahaha Millenium Falcon! It's still one of the most ambitious video I've done, and I look forward to making another one when I have the time! :)
I didn't expect you to use so many of my prompts and I made the thumbnail!? I feel honored. I know you worked really hard on this video and it's amazing!
Petrik! This is your best video! I know most of the subscribers must have said this but keep up the good work! I love your videos which are so unbiased and relatable. Thank you for the recommendations. I have ordered more than 10 books after watching this video.
The Nine by Tracey Townsend fills that magic/science/alchemy mix perfectly! I haven't read the sequel yet but man, what an underappreciated and kickass book (with a kickass cover too!)
Oh yeah I have that book and its sequel, The Fall! I did not know it has alchemy in it. I have to push it up my TBR pile. I think there's still one book left, I thought I might as well wait for the last book. :D
Thank you Petrik for this amazing video! I‘m a relatively new follower (I followed you after hearing Emily Fox talk about you a couple of months ago) and you‘re already one of my favourite people on booktube.
The Stone SKy is just SO amazing, the whole series really. And as a mom I agree with the themes of motherhood in this series, it is heartbreaking and just perfection
@@PetrikLeo I think the opening of book 1 hit me hardest, like one page and I'm BAWLING, probably didn't help that my at the time 4 year old sin was sleeping next to me
Great video. Having done a video like this (Sci Fi), I know how much work and time goes into it. I see that work and effort in this and its really sn impressive episode. This will definitely be a go-to reference for me when I need a fantasy read.
Great video! Thanks so much for all the time and effort you put into and thanks to Choco Boy for thinking of our well-being! I would give this video a triple- thumbs up if it was possible.
OMG.... well done brother. One of the most unique videos in booktube history! Keep it going and do more like these.... (e.g. top 10 heroes, heroines, villains, mentors, henchmen, sidekicks, cameos and so on)
I adore riyria covers because of the plot and characters 😂 I will fight defending those covers Also the dedication to making this is amazing, so is the fact that you've read so many books in the genre that you're able to give specific recommendations
Just finished watching. I'm honestly amazed that you didn't repeat any books. Salute. Also these were in the first 50 but I absolutely love Name of The Wind (as sad as I am) and Assassin's Fate was...rough. In your final 50, Dandelion Dynasty is a really impressive series. The plot, the character arcs and the finale was really well-done in terms of overall themes. My best wishes to you. 😊
Thank you so much once again, Paromita! I am looking forward to reading Speaking Bones. If I had read it before making this video, I'm sure it would've appeared on this list, too. I absolutely loved The Name of the Wind, too! :D
@@PetrikLeo You loved the first three books yes? Imho Speaking Bones is the best book thematically (especially if we think of the title of the series - Dandelion Dynasty), much better than Wall of Storms, which seems to be many people's favourite.
@@Paromita_M Yup! I certainly loved The Wall of Storms the most among the first three books I've read. Let's see if I'll love Speaking Bones even more! :)
Petrik this video is INSANE! So excited to see this posted as I’ve been really anticipating it from the teasers you’ve been dropping in your last couple of videos. This is helping me get through the last bit of work I have today. I appreciate your hard work and like always this is top notch content my friend
Thank you so much for this incredible video!! It shows that you have put a lot of time and effort in it! And I was so happy you included my prompt, I’ll be sure to pick up Ashes of the sun the next time I go to the bookstore :)
Such an ambitious undertaking! This is a super-useful resource you've created; one I know I'll be referencing and referring others to for a long time to come. Also, so awesome that you lead off with Jade Legacy. So perfect! Your efforts are a gift to the fantasy community, Petrik. Much appreciated.
For the one request about most interesting mounts Gregor The Overlander by Suzanne Collins has giant bats as mounts too! Its such a short enjoyable 5 book series with such an interesting world that takes place in an underground city with prophecies and different factions of giant rats and cockroaches, i love those books so much and ive never heard anyone else talk about them.
Amazing video! Thank you for taking the time to make it. I'll have to find more booktubers who do things like this. I would like to add a recommendation. You mentioned Red Sister by Mark Lawrence but haven't read the rest. I urge you to do so. The rest of the series is incredible with Holy Sister being the best of them all.
Thank you, James! Hmm, I think you misunderstood. I've read the entire the Book of the Ancestor trilogy. I loved Red Sister most, though, after my reread! I actually reread Red Sister to continue reading Grey Sister and Holy Sister. I haven't read the 2nd and 3rd book in Book of the ICE trilogy and Impossible Times trilogy! :)
Petrik, wow! Thank you SO much for all the time and effort you put into this video! I've slowly been watching it in pieces day by day, and my tbr has grown once again thanks to you! :D
I am just now getting into fantasy/grim dark fantasy. I've watched a lot of dark fantasy but have not read much. Harry Potter and Narnia are the only fantasy books I've read lol. I've pretty much put almost all of these books on my list to read. haha
@@PetrikLeo Not sure why my last comment was deleted but anyway look them up on GOG they were from 1994 and 1998 respectively so they are old games but the writing still holds up and basically was the closest thing to a fantasy novel in game form until the Witcher games came out. Betrayal was a great game but Return wasn't as good but is still worth playing.
@@josephfernandez8015 It could probably be because you included a link or something. UA-cam now automatically deletes comments with a link attached. I'm not even sure why!
You're welcome! It's awesome. Do note that it's the second book in the trilogy, though. Make sure to read Daughter of the Empire first if you haven't! :)
@@PetrikLeo Yes, I know, but thanks for making sure of that:) I've heard only amazing things about Feist, I haven't dipped deeper into his works, tho. I'm excited to discover all of the goodies he has to offer!
Just hearing Petrick say “honor is dead, but I’ll see what I can do” gave me goosebumps and made me wanna grab a sword and go fight something. Awesome pick for that prompt
Argh that scene is just so "Ohhhh shhhittt let's goooo!!" moment. Just thinking about it hype me up again hahaha.
That line gave me goosebumps too but the scene I read right after just left me triggered

84. Recommend me a fantasy book where 2 people's beliefs are constantly in conflict and they're both back stabbing the other person but at the same time still really care for one another. Could be romance or best friends.
85. Recommend me a fantasy or sci-fi book or series that gives you important insight into how other people think/new perspective.
86. Recommend me a fantasy book (not manga) about samurais!
87. Recommend me a fantasy book where you hate the main character but a secondary character makes it worth it.
88. Recommend me an epic fantasy with an LGBT+ main character!
89. Recommend me a fantasy book where the protagonist doesn’t use weapons/violence to resolve conflicts.
90. Recommend me a fantasy book that is better when you read it the 2nd time.
91. Recommend me a fantasy book with beautiful and lyrical writing. Comfort feels/ vibes. Autumny or wintry. Character focused for the most part but not without a good plot where things HAPPEN. Should be comforting in some way- like character thoughts are relatable enough that we find ourselves in them or comforting in the sense of coziness and descriptions of immersive and atmospheric world. I personally love comfort books where characters are real and i can relate to them. It brings a sense of validation. As i said i want brilliant writing.
92. Recommend me a fantasy book about friendship (and by that I mean: a book where the main theme is the building of a solid friendship between two characters).

94. Recommend me a high stakes, fast-paced Fantasy that will pull me out of a reading slump.
95. Recommend me a fantasy book similar to The Green Bone Saga by Fonda Lee.
96. Recommend me an underrated Steampunk Fantasy book.
97. Recommend me another heist fantasy book! (I have already read Mistborn and Six of Crows).
98. Recommend me a fantasy that has some sort of tournament or competition in it.
99. Recommend me the best fantasy book with a desert setting.
100. Recommend me a fantasy book to read with the best life lessons.

Thank you SO much for featuring The First Binding, Petrik.
I am humbled and appreciate your support so much. :Bows:
You're always welcome, Ronnie! 😄 Not long now before more readers can read The First Binding!

Choco Boy did a great job in the intermission!!! Fantastic list. You put in a lot of work. I have a bunch of books to check out now. 🤩🤩🤩
Thank you so much, Kirsten! I think it's about time Choco Boy makes an appearance again!

I have just this past hour finished reading Warbreaker, and seeing you choose it for the "Trust issues" prompt - I couldn't agree more. Not just one betrayal, several with continuingly heavier impacts! Amazing book.
It's a great book, imo! So many reveals and all of them are incredibly impactful! 😊
What an incredible video. Congratulations. To be able to recommend 100 specific books for viewers, is an amazing accomplishment.

I finally got time to watch this, and it was so much fun to watch! As you know, I completely agree with you about the urge to reread Malazan. In fact, I just finished my reread, and it hit me even harder the second time. Thanks for this, my friend!
Thank you so much, my friend! I definitely need to continue with my reread of Malazan Book of the Fallen! I'm sure I'll love it more on my reread! :)

Thank you so much! Definitely a must to read Green Bone Saga and War for the Rose Throne! :)
An hour of Petrik talking Fantasy, yes please!! 😁 What an amazing video, well done for putting in so much work, we all really appreciate all you do for the fantasy community!
Thanks, Michael! It was tiring but also a blast to do. I hope it will be useful for many readers! 😁

The algorithm keeps suggesting people who look one type of way and all talk about the same 5 books like they're just copy/pasting off each other 🤣
I don't mean to sound mean or like I'm throwing shade it's just not to my liking
Aww thank you so much! That's very kind of you to say that. I'll keep doing my best! 😁
Oh my, now I got to the intermission and it's the cutest! Thank you for caring about us and blessing us with a doggy❤
Hahaha, you're welcome! Choco boy is there to greet everyone with his smile!! :D
Well, my TBR list just exploded. Thank you for this list (seriously, amazing work), I think I'll be rewatching this video a lot in the future :D

Thank you, Nathan! Not sure about the best, but I definitely worked the hardest on this video hahaha. I hope it will be useful for many people! :)
Awesomely done Petrik! Loved this video, and thank you for your hard work in curating this extensive list of fantasy books. It takes a very deep well of knowledge on the topic to be able to do this upon requests. Kudos to you. Petrick this UA-cam video is truly Epic and it's like the Millenium Falcon takes the novice reader on a journey from the Black Holes of the unknown to an enlightening World of what to read in the Fantasy Genre. What? Really!? I did not know that! I have to look that up! :)
@@PetrikLeo Not sure why my last comment was deleted but anyway look them up on GOG they were from 1994 and 1998 respectively so they are old games but the writing still holds up and basically was the closest thing to a fantasy novel in game form until the Witcher games came out.
