    It‘s so validating to hear that being uninspired for long periods of time and facing obstacles in your creative process is a thing that happens to other people too. Creativity really is not something that can be controlled. And it doesn’t undermine your abilities as an artist.

      Yep creativity is free flowing and our lives and the factors that influence also inform our creativity. The difference here is that a professional artist still has to mine and carve something out, even if they don’t feel inspired. I think with creativity it’s important to just keep going

    Zane Lowe BLOWS me away with every interview. He has a talent to converse with people and draw things out in them that simply can't be taught. His questions are well researched but more importantly, they're inspired. You can tell he's REALLY listening and connecting with the person he's interviewing in a way that's so genuine and comfortable, that you don't even remember it's an interview. It takes so much vulnerability and WISEDOM on his end to be able to do what he does.

    This song hits so hard - she so perfectly describes feeling that constant existential dread that comes with depression, when you so frequently question life and what your purpose is - pairing it with a powerful video that captures the feeling of when you're little and try to play with Barbie a certain way but then things go wrong and you feel so out of control, and then tying that in to the message of the movie of the biggest struggle of life; trying to figure out who you are.

  • @ChINNg28
    @ChINNg28 Рік тому +297

    They are so insanely talented. Like it’s one thing to create art without restrictions, writing about break ups, etc. But Greta showed them the movie and asked them to come up with a song - and they managed to create this?? Something that totally fits the specific Barbie plot WHILE also personal to Billie?? I am impressed by these people’s creativity and skills.
    The melody is so Billie and it works so beautifully well in the movie when played with the montage about moments in life. So touching. Now whenever I play this song I want to cry

She has so much time ahead of her, and can’t wait to see what will happen next in her career. She is just so naturally talented as her brother is, and it’s only been 5 years since her first album came out. That’s just crazy.

    I didn’t listen to the song until the movie came out. I heard it for the first time as I sat through the credits. It was so so beautiful! And if I remember correctly there was this beautiful string play out at the end which aren’t isn’t in the single and that was gorgeous too. What a masterpiece. Billie and Finneas have such a stunning gift together. I’m happy I get to experience it. 💗💗💗

    I remember when Ruth said take my hands close your eyes now feel and this song played I literally started bawling crying cause I felt like it was her saying feel your emotions and let them out . I suffer with terrible anxiety and have to take medication for it that when I heard this song it was like billie said everything I was feeling ( like Billie said it was exactly how she felt , it’d also how I feel ) dealing with stress and anxiety daily it’s like I forgot how to be happy and I don’t know how to deal with the anxiety of everyday life etc . This song is sung so beautifully it’s perfect and it was perfect for the barbie movie. This song really struck a chord deep for me and still to this day makes me emotional. She’s a great artist and this is my favourite Billie Ellis’s song to date

    It's interesting to hear her perspective on what barbie was to her as a girl. She says that as a kid she didn't really think about how barbie was setting a beauty standard she wasn't part of. But as a little Asian girl in America in the 80s I did. I often felt a vein of resentment towards barbie and all dolls at the store, blonde was always the main product line with variations being brunette, and I resented that. I enjoyed barbie dolls and the fashions and the hair, it was decadent, but I wasn't white and dolls reminded me of that daily, and I thought I might never be as pretty as barbie.
    I'm glad this movie came out to help round out for society everything that barbie has touched on through the years. She's a toy and a fashion icon and a role model and a cautionary tale all in one. 👱‍♀️

      Interesting, I never noticed that as much. I grew up in Russia and ot me Barbie signified a princess, nothing more. A celebration and a dream. And the fact that I didn't look like her didn't matter to me. I guess to each their own and each child internalized differently

    There are so many layers to this. Billie was injected into pop culture at such a young age that she has become an icon for us to look toward as somebody we adore, somebody we are inspired by, somebody we wonder "can we really be anything we want, just like what billie did, just by following her passions and making what she wanted to make?" and that's exactly how we should look at barbie. we can't try to be barbie, we can only try to be ourselves. follow your heart til it bleeds as amy lee sung in "end of the dream"

    Beautiful song and video rife with themes of identity, self-doubt, and the pressure of expectations. The lyric "I'm not real, just something you paid for" paired with the way she examines and reflects on each outfit seems like an introspective exploration of her own identity; as if the various stages and eras throughout her career have compromised or confused her authentic sense of self, and she desperately wants to reclaim it. As if she feels more like a product than a person. My take is the tremor, wind and rain seem like outside forces and an environment trying to prevent her journey of self-discovery. To me, her picking up the wreckage and leaving speaks to her fight to reclaim her sense of self, leaving the obstacles behind in the pursuit of happiness. Such a beautiful, haunting and ethereal song.

    When I listen to a new song, its often the overall feel and flow of the song that stays in mind. And somehow there are people, like Billie and Finneas, who can create music that you can just... feel, without having to fully understand what they are saying. And I think that is a big part of what differentiates a good artist from an excellent one! Very well done
