I love my Coney Island. Born and raised in Brooklyn, this was my Disneyland. Coney was at its peak in the 90’s. Food, rides, salsa music and dancing on the boardwalk, sideshow, you name it! Even my first job in high school was on the boardwalk in Coney Island. This is one of the few original NYC gems that still feels like home and not overtaken by hipsters and expats.

The one on the boardwalk is the new one. The original is right on Surf Ave.
I wouldn’t blame Robert Moses for the decline of Coney Island; at least he built housing on commercial districts destined for decline. Go look at the similarly run-down seaside amusements in England (or New Jersey)…the real culprit here was cheap air travel and modern highways to places with nicer, emptier beaches. Coney Island only made sense when visiting Florida was an outrageously expensive, weeks-long train journey for New Yorkers…
Thank you for your comment. I agree that highways, automobiles, and cheaper air travel contributed to the decline of Coney Island; that deserved at least a sentence in the video, and I regret not including one. Moreover, the rise of air conditioning and home entertainment made it so people could spend hot summer days inside, also making Coney Island a less attractive place to spend a summer Sunday. However, I do think the actions of Robert Moses drastically transformed the area. If the city had taken actions to protect and encourage the amusement district, Coney Island would likely have had a different fate.
the tank top in th thumbnail got me here.
Me too!

I know Coney Island as the home turf of the Warriors.

Great vid. Should have mentioned that there is still an active freak show
