Brooklyn's Coney Island, Explained
Brooklyn's Coney Island is one of the most historic neighborhoods in the United States. From the late 1800s to the 1940s, this former seaside retreat was the United States’ largest amusement district, holding world-class amusement parks and a beach that would sometimes receive over one million visitors in a single day. The neighborhood fell into disrepair in the 1960s due to suburbanization and economic conditions, and these historic amusement parks were destroyed. 21st century rezoning and development efforts have revitalized the neighborhood, bringing it back as a destination for recreation. Coney Island continues to provide New Yorkers a place to escape the city, play, and create memories.

Williamsburg, Brooklyn - Explained
Переглядів 98 тис.5 місяців тому
Williamsburg, a neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York, has arguably gone through more transformations than any other neighborhood in the United States in the past 100 years. Williamsburg, a former industrial district of New York City, morphed into a center for the arts and alternative culture in the 1990s as SoHo and other neighborhoods for artists became more commercialized. Due to rezoning chang...

You didn’t mention that during the Black Out of 1977, Broadway in Williamsburg was completely looted and many stores were set on fire. The whole area was trashed. The newspaper at the time said it was “The end of Broadway in Brooklyn”.
i appreciate this guy's humility and self-awareness. i wish more transplants were like him in this regard, short of them simply not moving here.
My rent when I moved to Williamsburg in 2007 was $350 a month. It was really wild to see how much it changed in the decade I lived there.
I was not expecting such a good physique! I’m gagged! 🤤
Lol I drank tons of pbr in the early 2000s in the city, but only because of cash flow concerns! #notallhipsters!

Excellent video and very informative about Coney Island.
I love my Coney Island. Born and raised in Brooklyn, this was my Disneyland. Coney was at its peak in the 90’s. Food, rides, salsa music and dancing on the boardwalk, sideshow, you name it! Even my first job in high school was on the boardwalk in Coney Island. This is one of the few original NYC gems that still feels like home. Btw, you guys didn’t eat at the original Nathans! The one on the boardwalk is the new one. The original is right on Surf Ave.

Thanks for making this interesting and informative video 👍🏻
How come you're not shirtless in this?

Sunnyside and Sunset Park are next
Muy buena la historia y la edición del video!! 👏🏻
Haven't read all of the comments, so maybe this issue is addressed somewhere, but not at all cool to use other people's photos in your piece without their permission.
I really enjoyed this. I'd love to see a video on Rockaway too. Such a different feel than Coney Island but also very New York City
It's an interesting video but could use without all the race baiting which I find to be untruthful, uncontextual and part of today's current liberal mindset which I believe is contributing to the continued racial hatred and divide that exists in this country. When discussing the more dangerous period ("properly dangerous" as he puts it), the text: -He quotes someone describing violence and deaths without any negative editorial commentary -Simply states factual information about demographics and changes In contrast, when discussing the current/recent period, there's notably more criticism and satirical commentary aimed at the newer residents, with phrases like: "tech Bros who think they're hipsters" "Clones of tall white guys" "hipsters play-acting blue collar" "another Brooklyn transplant clone" "Michaela from Ohio having her Brooklyn moment and not a true resident like someone who immigrated her 40 years before her" There is an imbalance in how different periods and demographic changes are discussed - more neutral reporting of earlier periods versus more critical commentary of recent changes with a focus on "white" people being a problem.
Hey, rubbish is better than rotting horse carcasses. That’s progress!
Me tooooo!!
I got into it from the Velvet Underground
I haven't been inside a brownstone in over 30 years. I never understood the inside. It's like a maze.
Very well done ! thank you HTB
Word of warning, avoid Coney Island whitefish
Great man theory is literally just life path numbers like yeah sometimes you’re a master architect most of the times you’re not, and of course he’s never driven you’ve seen Southern State Parkway, dude he’s a fool but he had a lot of power

Curious about the seaport area and how it was able to be kept historical. Would be an interesting video
Love all the info about NYC
From the other videos I've seen the place is pretty sketchy today .
Great job on Coney Island I've been going my whole life❤
Are the walls separating the units brick, or are they regular walls, made from wood frame drywall etc?
I love Coney Island. I’ve been going my whole life. It’s a nostalgic place full of fun and history.
Also visit the nearby Aquarium and see the Cyclones(the Mets minor league baseball team) when you’re in the neighborhood.
You look very nice in a bathing suit
Williamsburg is trash and a fake manhattan, yall can have that.
confirmed -- i can dig this
gracias.
alo. first time watching <3 its terrific! thanks.
I know Coney Island as the home turf of the Warriors.
This is an expert video essay in NYC video essays. I wonder how we could share that story to reflect how those changes altered communities in other cities; this runs parallel to the desire for those in cities outside NYC to recreate that. I've noticed the same thing in Des Moines, Rockford, NOLA, and others. Would love to see this expanded into other towns.
That was poorly written: This is an expert video essay. For NYC video essays, this is a great example of how the fabric of areas outside NYC reflected the same changes, and how it trickled down to other cities across America.
WARRRRIORRRS comee outtt andd playy
Love to see a video on Victorian Houses, and Queen Ann styles!
