Great video. I'm 67, and a life-long railroad buff. And this is the first time seeing this operation take place. Proves...you never stop LEARNING, when you think you've seen it all. Thanks very much.
Great video! Thank you! ( I still can't see how these cars go round bends when joined up by STRAIGHT rails - loads of ! Some forces needed to bend it!)
Your video once again leaves me amazed at the quality as well as content. At times I feel as though I could just reach out and give em a little shove. Great work!
Another great video! Thank you for the effort you put forth and sharing. Years ago, I watched a maintenance team replace rails on a section of local track. They gave me a couple of small pieces of rail that I still use today in my shop as anvils.
excellent video. nice combo of long and tight shots. makes for interesting watching even if it wasn't just plain fascinating. file this in the "i didn't know that's how that did that? compartment.
I think each rail section is 1/4 mile long--worked a summer job which welded these rails together in a separate location..Rolled out on the flat roller cars for delivery. I never saw them installed--thx for video
They usually only replace ties and rail in the summer time. At least they did where I live. And yes it got HOT and lots of rattle snakes to contend with.@@joehnunya
Sensational how much technology in unloading rails on the railway and trains passing on the parallel track !!!! Fantastic
Definitely one of the coolest railfan videos I’ve seen on UA-cam!
This is THE reference video of how it's done, a must for all railfans!

The rail is secured in the middle. It can expand and contract on both ends

Amazing, didnt know the rails were so long & carried that way.

i think they can only go 10 mph in corners and up to 40 on straights, at least for csx... but i've never been on one.
Cool video.I had no idea steel rail was that flexiable.
yeah they wet it first, which helps

That is really great. I see rail cars go by our place all the time in New Mexico, but never seen them unload. What an operation.

Interesting.
Great catch there. I was out there on Saturday and saw the track crews getting set up between Essex and Goffs.
Excelente video
Great informative video!
Beautiful video, but one question
How do they lift these tracks to install???
Curious
Another train with ITs machinery ..They doesn't lift 'em by hand any more.
Can be installed with a speed swing
muy interesante
Show......
Great video. I always wanted to see a rail train in action .
Bruh
awesome vid man!
thank you for share great detail video of operation on real life railroad
is that a mantainence of way truck at the end of that train?
Rail Unloader Machine (RUM). The highway wheels permit the machine to be driven to a grade crossing to be connected to the rail train.
Cool! Thank you!!
Not a job I would want. Laying rail on the outskirts of hell.
Not even if it's $50 an hour?
130 in the summer. 20 in the winter. Naah. Not me.
They usually only replace ties and rail in the summer time. At least they did where I live. And yes it got HOT and lots of rattle snakes to contend with.@@joehnunya
