I love to see so many indie developers posting comments to show this channel some appreciation! This has been my go to indie game channel for several years now, since back in the Clemmy Games days. Hardest working indie-informer in the business, bar none. Here's wishing you continued sucess for many years to come! Also: So many great games here I can't wait for! Rune Fencer, Sister's Journey, Savior, HF Alicia, Sandfox, Crowsworn, Silksong, + too many more to name! Awesome list!

Thank you for including Bo! I can't wait to show everyone how much the game has improved since that alpha trailer. Hopefully will be releasing a new trailer early next yaer with a sick new cinematic animated intro! Thank you for everything you do for the indie game community Clemmy. I can tell you put SO MUCH work into these videos.
Out of everything on this list, there's only two games I didn't already have wishlisted (one cause I'm not interested and the other cause I didn't know about it until this video). We have so many Metroidvanias to look forward to that it's insane. Incredible list as always, Clemmy.
Okay, now that I have a chance to watch legit... 50. Elderand - new to me. Looks interesting. 49. Rusted Moss - not a fan of chunky pixel art. Might be okay. 48. Neon Moon - The, well, neon style is striking. Good animations. 47. Kingdom Shell - might be okay? Dunno. 46. AEmbrosia - Nice sprite work. Worth a look. 45. Curse of the Sea Rats - Been looking at this Don Bluth movie for a while. 44. Nara: Facing Fire - Very smooth animation and interesting art. 43. Selini - Setting reminds me of old games like Out of This World 42. Rune Fencer Illyia - Looks like Momodora, which I didn't like. 41. Gold Project - Another game that calls attention to itself by the art. 40. Mira and TLOTJ - Seen this before. Looks promising. 39. Romancelvania - I'm so confused...but it definitely has appeal. 38. Dewdrop Dynasty - Very retro pixel art. 37. A Sister's Journey - Hi Celeste. I can see this taking off. 36. Biomorph - Is it wrong that I tend to judge these by how smooth the animations are? If not, Biomorph is in a very good place. 35. Lotus Knight - Ah, yes, the infamous HK clone. Curious to see what it really is. 34. Astra: Fading Stars - Looks promising. 33. Sak'd - The premise of this one is hilarious. 32. Lucid - That BGM really caught my attention. 31. Moadra - Setting's probably not for me, but it reminds me of Sundered. 30. Shyftrs - Pity the kickstarter failed, but it looks uneven atm. 29. The Crown Stones - Very slow and deliberate movement. 28. Chiaroscuro - I don't see this as a HK rip-off, so much as just using inspirations. 27. Last Vanguard - Brisk action and distinctive art and setting. 26. Glimmer in Mirror - Played the demo a while back. Definitely needed work at the time, but very pretty. 25. Ceplion - A Sister's Journey part 2, but I think this does some interesting things that one doesn't. 24. Awaken: Astral Blade - Very vibrant art and particle effects. 23. Savior - The protag's acrobatic animations are really the star here. 22. Ruby: Wayward Mira - Not so much the protag, but the rest of it reminds me of Iconoclasts. 21. DOOMBLADE - Distinct art and KB&M focus. 20. Heart Forth, Alicia - Looks cute. Just how old is this? 19. Rebel Transmute - Very Axiom Verge. (Or just Metroid.) 18. The Last Case of Benedict Fox - This one just gives me bad adventure game vibes. 17. Akatori - Caught my attention earlier due to the staff-use mechanics. 16. Siege & Sandbox - Not sure how I feel about stealth-focus, but looks decent. 15. Cookie Cutter- I need to see more to decide, because it's either really good or really bad. 14. Turbo Kid - Demo was kinda frustrating IMO. 13. Mandragora - I was surprised to get an ad for this at one point. 12. Vernal Edge - Demo was simultaneously a little disappointed and probably the result of being an early-game demo. 11. Fallen Tear - Don't think I've seen this one. Indivisible comp seems fitting. 10. Exil - Also new. Brief demo too chaotic to evaluate. 9. Being and Becoming - For a second I thought I was looking at a 9 Years of Shadows demo. 8. YES! Been watching this one very carefully for a bit. 7. Afterimage - Very vibrant art (no surprise if it's Chinese) 6. Bo: Path of Teal Lotus - What if the Okami team made a metroidvania? 5. Momodora Moonlit Farewell - No, thanks. Reverie Under Moonlight really turned me off. 4. Nine Sols - Another really smooth game. 3. The Last Faith - Deliberate animations. I never really played CV, so this is not for me. 2. Crowsworn - Very smooth. Damn, 1.25M kickstarter?? 1. Silksong - Is Silksong.
Lets boost this video with comments and make a great thread in the process by each of us choosing 1 metroidvania to recommend that you believe didn't get enough love. My personal favorite in recent years was *Grime* which came out about a month before Metroid Dread so no one was thinking about it after that game came out. It has the soulslike combat and a beautiful/desecrated world also they have a DLC they'll be releasing pretty soon called Colors of Rot I've been holding off playing it again until it's finished.
Gotta show some love for Batbarian: Testament of the Primordials! Interesting puzzle gameplay mixed in with a quirky narrative and a suite of accessibility options make it a stand out title I wish got more love. Also, while not technically a Metroidvania (more like Zelda 2), Phoenotopia: Awakening is also a hidden gem I think deserves more attention. A few rough edges, but the overall quality makes it one of my top 10 indies ever. Very difficult in places, but accessibility options also go a ways towards alleviating this games more frustrating issues as well. Gotta love some games that allow tailoring of various features to better suit individual players needs, IMO!
i enjoy playing metroidvania games ... but surprise to see so many new ones coming out this year, the genre has really grown and they keep looking and playing better
#41, Gold Project, reminds me a little bit of Sundered how going light or dark alters the abilities you can get which also affected ow you traversed the world
Clemmy, being part of the kickstarter for Crowsworn, they said they'll most likely release the game in 2024, due to more content and more polish required. "Release date to be later than anticipated".
I'd be surprised if it came out in 2033. Most Metroidvanias that were being made before they announced the sequel aren't necessarily going to be finalised by 2023 yet A much newer game like Blasphemous 2 is going to be out by 2023? Hmmmm
Savior, Gestalt, Last Faith, Hollow Knight 2. So many amazing games to come that I’ve been waiting for literally for years. It’s sad that this genre is now known for getting delayed releases. Amazing video, dude, heavy on the ads side, but really good list here, even with updates for each entry.
Not so sure about Savior, as an animator i noticed something iffy in it's trailer and now that i went to check the steam page and saw that there aren't more images or footage than the one that was shown, not even in the kickstarter trailer. i'm 99% sure that everything on it was hand animated and wasn't actually coded gameplay.
@@reyalfa18 yeah, those parry animations seemed to good to be actual gameplay, and I’m not an animator or anything like that, but there is a gameplay clip already. I believed some people got to play an alpha or beta build
I love how you showed many great games but near the end are like: "Of Course Hollow Knight Silksong is number1" and then don't bother to show much as everyone has been doing that on their own for a longggggg time now. So happy to see all the indie development studios commenting too. Much love to you guys and the work you do! Metroidvania is easily my favorite genre to play.
I was going to list some of my most anticipated games from this list, then I realised it's at least half of the ones shown. I definitely think however there's definitely a clear top tier for me in presentation: crowsworn, ninesols, gestalt, last vanguard, last faith, exil and of course silksong. 2023-2024 will be stacked for metroidvanias.
Thanks for the video. My top 10 list: 10-Heart Forth, Alicia 9-The Last Case of Benedict Fox 8-Gestalt: Steam & Cinder 7-Akatori 6-Cookie Cutter 5-Bushiden 4-The Last Faith 3-Exile 2-Crowsworn 1-Hollow Knight:Silksong.
Awesome list Clemm, thanks for all the effort you put in your videos, I missed animal well(maybe it is not 100% a metroidvania?), but the list was soooo good
Gotta say, as a guy who grew up on the Castlevania metroids, I kind of wish we had more RPG/Loot focused ones rather than the Hollow knight/platforming and movement focus a lot of these seem to have
Just watched a video by a UA-camr called Jesse Cox, one of Totalbiscuit's friends from the good old YT days, and he said that he a few friends are producers on Gestalt: Steam and Cinder, so I think the game is on its way to the finish line.
It’s crazy how many games look almost exactly like Hollow Knight. It’s feels like what the triple A bussiness is doing with fromsoft games. Indie devs: make a game because you love your project. Not because you love someone else’s. Doomblade looks really good
This year wasn't good for metroidvania fans, but if half of this list be released in 2023/2024 for me it's fine. The Last Faith #1 my most atecipated game. Also Gestalt, Moadra, Mandragora & Being and Becoming.
If 30 years ago you told me that I'd be playing my 16 bit games on a system designed to play 9,000,000 bit games and they'd be all the rage, I would have laughed. Well played Nintendo, well played atari...
My favorite are: Awaken Astral Blade. A sister´s Journey. Moadra. Akatory. Savior. Mandragora. Exil. Nara Facing Fire. Nine Sols. The Last Faith. Crowsworn. Silksong. The Last Case Of Benedict Fox.
Last faith should've been #1 imho. Haha But so could have Gestalt, Awaken, Heartforth Alicia, Akatora, Seige and the Sandfox, Vernal Edge and MANDRAGORA; plus a couple others I might've missed off the list- I'm not a fan of the popular "notebook doodles art style" that is silksong and crowsworn etc.
50?! Jesus, I guess it shouldn't be surprising considering it's one of your favored genre's, but that's really extensive for strictly "upcoming" games.
there's something that bothers me with number 23, Savior, as an animator i noticed something iffy in it's trailer and now that i went to check the steam page and saw that there aren't more images or footage than the one that was shown, not even in the kickstarter trailer. i'm 99% sure that everything on it was hand animated and wasn't actually coded gameplay. would love to see if there was more information given about it
I think they have been very selective in what they have shown here and i too have my reservations. However, this was the most intriguing game on the list for me (too many hollow knight rip-offs for me).
Thanks for all the research Clemmy. Gread vid. Personally Rune Fencer Illyia is my #1 but almost all of these titles ended up on my wishlist. A much better list than last year's one even if some titles were repeats from that list.
@@ClemmyGames Yeah Rune Fencer is number 1 for me. I don't think it's objectively going to be the best game in the list but I think personally I will have the most fun with it. The dev for it hangs out on the Berserk Boy Discord and keeps showing off little clips for the game all of which just look so fun.
Glimmer in the mirror is like "What if we make an Ori like game with Chibi characters". Not that its bad. The music, the art style, the level design seems to be pretty blatant Ori copy to be honest, but I'm not complaining.
Im a fan of metroidvanias, and watch your videos regularly so most of these games i knew already, but still very good list. My top 5 games i wait for - Benedict Fox, Nine sols, next Momodora, Moadra and of course Silksong .
Great job, your love for the genre and your hard work make you go further each time, I respect your dedication 👍 Now find us 20 farming rpg, it should be enough 😋 Jokes aside can't wait to see your greatest project in the making, keep it up and we'll be here for it
Well, there's no way I have the time or energy to play 50 metroidvanias, so I guess I'll narrow my picks down to: Silksong (!!!) Fallen Tear Momodora: Moonlit Farewell Bo Nine Sols Rubi Sak'd (unexpected, but I think it looks great) Definitely not rewarding the biggest copycats on the list with my hard earned $$$ though :P
@@ClemmyGames I may play Crowsworn, I was actually pretty stoked about it when it was first announced. I've just seen a bunch more that I'm more interested in now . But a lot of times it's the ones I least expect to like that become my faves, so who knows which of these 50 will turn out best. It's Chiaroscuro and Lotus Knight that really bother me here though. To me, they set a foot over the line for "homage" and get dangerously close to "rip-off". Hopefully I'm wrong!
Nine sols and some others are above Silk song for me. Might sound criminal but that's how I feel. Silk song will be cool no doubt. However I've got good feelings about some others that might just top the Hollow Knight series.

I've heard that Heart forth, Alicia will FINALLY be launch on Sept 2023! They said they have almost finish the last dungeon in this game!
👀 really?
@@ClemmyGames That's what I heard from them.
impressive list!! thanks
Glad you enjoyed!
My favorite are:
Awaken Astral Blade.
A sister´s Journey.
Moadra.
Akatory.
Savior.
Mandragora.
Exil.
Nara Facing Fire.
Nine Sols.
The Last Faith.
Crowsworn.
Silksong.
The Last Case Of Benedict Fox.
This is a hell of a list
Thanks!
To each their own but we can have all of them 😉
Excited for gestalt and moadra the most
Got some news on gestalt!
@@ClemmyGames what is it?
The man really loves his Hollow Knight........like a lot.
mm
"Domblee" made me laugh so hard
hm?
@@ClemmyGames 23:27
I have a recommendation for you The Perfect Pencil
Its setting reminds me a lot of Hollow Knight the demo is on Steam and is a blast.
It's ok
Moadra looks incredible!!!
Cookie Cutter has amazing animations, but that protagonist design... Now that's pain.
It’s ok
I’m most excited for Earthblade which is from the same developers as Celeste
50?! Jesus, I guess it shouldn't be surprising considering it's one of your favored genre's, but that's really extensive for strictly "upcoming" games.
It's A LOT
there's something that bothers me with number 23, Savior, as an animator i noticed something iffy in it's trailer and now that i went to check the steam page and saw that there aren't more images or footage than the one that was shown, not even in the kickstarter trailer.
i'm 99% sure that everything on it was hand animated and wasn't actually coded gameplay.
would love to see if there was more information given about it
Hmm, we'll see
I think they have been very selective in what they have shown here and i too have my reservations. However, this was the most intriguing game on the list for me (too many hollow knight rip-offs for me).
as a metroidvania fan, I'm a little hesitant watching this list as it will likely add another dozen or two games on my already huge backlog. oh well..
DO IT
Interested: 50, 45, 8, 7, 5, 1
Anticipated: 42, 22, 20, 17, 12
Hoping it comes to Switch: 46, 35, 26, 24
nice picks
They all will come to Switch. What legitimately good one hasn't?
You missed no2, 3, 4...
Thanks for all the research Clemmy. Gread vid. Personally Rune Fencer Illyia is my #1 but almost all of these titles ended up on my wishlist. A much better list than last year's one even if some titles were repeats from that list.
Huh! Rune fencer #1? Interesting. Yeah quite a number of repeats since THEY DIDN'T RELEASE THIS YEAR
@@ClemmyGames Yeah Rune Fencer is number 1 for me. I don't think it's objectively going to be the best game in the list but I think personally I will have the most fun with it. The dev for it hangs out on the Berserk Boy Discord and keeps showing off little clips for the game all of which just look so fun.
What is the name of the game from the thumbnail? its looked great !
Elderand
Glimmer in the mirror is like "What if we make an Ori like game with Chibi characters". Not that its bad. The music, the art style, the level design seems to be pretty blatant Ori copy to be honest, but I'm not complaining.
A little. It’s the soft lighting I think
what game is the muscular snake with the sword from
Tarnishing was a 3/10 for me.the boss fights I did were pretty cool. I'd rather play castle in the darkness.
Mm
Number 28 should've never been advertised.
That's a lot of work.
Again.
I will watch it later.
cheers
16:23 sorry but that's just Circle Of The Moon, they can claim it's not all they want, all I could say back would be "lol ok"
The animation in cookie cutter looks insane
Love it
But for mobile devices like Android & iOS is there too?. We want all this game of metroidvania!.
Are there any Demon's Crest-like games?
Im a fan of metroidvanias, and watch your videos regularly so most of these games i knew already, but still very good list.
My top 5 games i wait for - Benedict Fox, Nine sols, next Momodora, Moadra and of course Silksong .
When it comes to game development, undelivered Kick Starters are kind of rampant.
Great job, your love for the genre and your hard work make you go further each time, I respect your dedication 👍
Now find us 20 farming rpg, it should be enough 😋
Jokes aside can't wait to see your greatest project in the making, keep it up and we'll be here for it
#42's systems look promising, but the art and design does not call out to me as something to try
Fair enough
i wonder if one day we will get dust an elycian tale 2
Well, there's no way I have the time or energy to play 50 metroidvanias, so I guess I'll narrow my picks down to:
Silksong (!!!)
Fallen Tear
Momodora: Moonlit Farewell
Bo
Nine Sols
Rubi
Sak'd (unexpected, but I think it looks great)
Definitely not rewarding the biggest copycats on the list with my hard earned $$$ though :P
Gotta be selective. No Crowsworn? I think that looks SICK
However I've got good feelings about some others that might just top the Hollow Knight series.
thx bro 👍
🍻
How to tell if a 2D action platformer game is good?
if you have an up-slash and a down-slash.
heh
