Did you see the episodes where Al turns down all the women that wanted to sleep with him, in different episodes cuz he really does love peg? Kelly, who turned down a bunch of guys in different episodes? Kelly defending her brother and basically kicking one girls butt for breaking buds heart , bud defending Kelly too. Al even helped Marcy sometimes Mwc was a lot cleaner than what's going on on tv now
Was the show blatantly sexist, depends on how seriously you took it. I was about 14 when it first aired, and I took it as basically satire. I wouldn't take it too seriously, and if you really don't like it, don't watch it. I just find it funny that here it is 36 years after it debuted, and we're still talking about it. That's definitely gotta to count for something
We laughed at the characters, the male ones as well as the female ones, because we imagined how ridiculous it would be if people were actually like that in real life, that's what made it hilarious, it was, and is, escapism. Sadly there are those out there trying to turn this show, amongst others, into something it was never intended to be, something to be taken seriously as behaviours to aspire to, and role models to look up to, it was intended as comedy and it delivered. But, unfortunately, this trend of constantly revising the past, and turning that into something it never was, divisive, except in the minds of the twisted, will no doubt continue into this bleak, comedy free, future ⛈️⛈️⛈️
As is with most comedies that aired from the 70s to today, they should not be taken too seriously. Just watch for the funny antics and laugh at them. I am in my early 50's and watched Married with Children ever since they began. Still do today as I have all the seasons on DVD.
Different time! You can speak about misogyny now, but I guarantee if she had at the time went public with that, she would of been fired or the show would of been pulled from the air.
Married…with children is one of the funniest sitcoms of all time! I don’t know why that woman felt it was so offensive where she wanted to cancel the show! Or that episode where Peggy & Al made a sex video was not shown until to 2004. That episode was nothing really sexually offensive. They did nothing but insinuate that they will have sex! So that was stupid bc that episode & the show itself shouldn’t be that offensive to bother anyone! it shows me how closed minded many people were back then and even today! what critics & closed minded people fail to say or admit anyway is the male characters play mischievous & dumb and they often got humiliated too! They don’t see that! All and all the characters and the episodes were not exactly an example for how to raise a family! It was not the Cosby show! That’s why the producer of Cosby left the show and did Married…with children. If It bothers you, that tells me there is a problem going with you! Like Christina once said, if you don’t want to watch it, turn the channel! Don’t take away from anyone else over your beliefs! Not to say I do see the low moral values stories & the characters were not sophisticated but the show never had any negative influence on me or many other People so why should it effect church going or what ever is going on in your mind! They did the same thing with Three’s Company when it started! There was people who didn’t want to accept a guy living with 2 girls. Why are there so many closed minded people! I don’t care really what a person watches but DON’T TAKE AWAY WHAT I CHOOSE TO WATCH BECAUSE THAT IS HOW YOU FEEL AS OF RIGHT NOW!
When it comes to the feud between Ed O'Neil and Amanda Bearse I go back to an interview Ed O'Neil did talking about the show according to him they never got along and he still to this day don't know why but one altercation they Ed O'Neil told Amanda Bearse she wasn't very bright which apparently pissed her and in typical legendary fashion Ed O'Neil told her and I quote "because i have a button that button says get rid of Amanda Bearse you don't have a button that says get rid of Ed O'Neil you're button doesn't work" and he said he could push that button and she would've been gone from the show but didn't out of the kindness of his heart. And I think that's why they didn't get along was because he was the star of the show and had all the power and she didn't. She was jealous and as a huge fan of married with children I tuned in to see Al Bundy (Ed O'Neil) not Marcy (Amanda Bearse) she made the show unbearable to watch because she was so annoying Ed O'Neil made the show. So, if anyone is responsible for the show ending it's Amanda Bearse not Ed O'Neil.
It was just harmless satire that is pretty tame compared to what passes for entertainment today. They all collected hefty paychecks for their roles on the show. Shame on them for not securing a good lawyer before signing the contract. Residuals have to be mutually agreed on in a contract. I would have sued when the show was secretly canceled.
It was a satire with the satirical elements painted in the broadest of brush strokes. If some people didn't understand that, and I'm sure some still don't, then they have the freedom to change channels. I don't need a Terry Rakolta to do my thinking for me. And I certainly wish we still had show like MWC to bring some mirth into our lives.
Thank you mom! For letting me watch mwc with you when I was little! Good times. My 41 yr old a** bought the DVD collection and using it on my Xbox cuz ,,,, do they even make dvd players anymore....? Great show
Bullshit list, proof that today's society is weak and why we can't have nice things,if anything this vid vindicates many of the things the show warned us about with humor.
I mean… I wasn’t inspired to be like any of the characters more like not to be anything like them or be around people like that. It was funny and not necessarily inspiring.
Oh my god. Why are you bringing up sexual assault when saying you like a good show from the 90s? Wtf is wrong with you? And actually Al Bundy just returned an honorary degree because the person who gave it to him has committed sexual assault and is an election denier. 😊
The thing that gets missed here with all the complaints about MwC is that Al (his behaviour/words etc) wasn't ever supposed to be the hero. That's why he loses at the end of each episode. We're supposed to laugh at him, not idolise him. Still, MwC is my favourite sitcom.
If it was sexist and exploitative, according to Kate, she was big part of that exploitation, spending all the money Al earned on shopping even if the family starved, enjoying male strippers and other hot guys. As for Kelly's character, have you people not seen how teens are dressing? these days Kelly would be seen as 'classy'. Show was a satire, a comedy that exaggerated darkest desires, something to avoid or at least avoid displaying in public.
Omg segal was in sons on anarchy don’t mean she thought drug dealing and murder was ok, actors play a part which they are paid for, it’s their job, dissecting and questioning the actors views are just stupid and pointless, it’s Their Job
I get annoyed with actors going forth season after season then expressing regret when the series ends. Angus T. Jones made 300K per episode on Two and a Half Men then became a Mormon and disparaged the series. Katey Sagal is up there with Lucy & Carol-- so embrace it and be proud of your Peggy Bundy. Of all sitcoms Married With Children still makes me laugh from the gut.
You don't know what it was about huh. The bundy family took family vacations, had family meals when they could afford it, comforted each other when needed, supporting each other when sports was involved, they voted, and they kicked others butt when they did a Bundy wrong.
I loved the show up to season 6. After that they relied too much on women in bikinis who were portrayed as dumb. As a man, I genuinely find it insulting because this show, and anything else that uses sex to sell, believes that all it takes is a pair of breasts for a man to watch their program or buy their product. Sadly, most of the time it is all it takes. Men tend to be easy prey and easily exploited when it comes to sex. Just look at strip clubs. I am 43 and have never patronized a strip club. They exploit men. No joke and no sarcasm in my comment.
It's not a coincidence that since season 7 the show's humour started to age for the most part. That slapstick approach didn't do wonders in the long run
The show demeaned MEN!!! The first couple of years it was genuinely FUNNY. One of the writers died if I remember right. Then the NETWORK people took over after it became a HIT and it went downhill from there. Everything I have ever been around is like that. The LITTLE guys make it a HIT, then the Suits want to run it and take CREDIT and the MONEY. So nothing is new about that. After awhile, it became silly but it was funny for the first two or three years. Jackie Gleason (Honeymooners) had the right idea, bail out while still on top and leave people wanting more. Much better than dying a slow silly death. The "porn stars" did not make it funny. I don't remember many "true laughs" coming from that. What I liked about the show was just meant to be funny in the beginning and it had NO POLITICAL MESSAGE BUILT IN TO IT. I really cannot stand that and won't watch anything that is trying to indoctrinate me. Too Bad the original Cast and Writers did not get any residuals or got a piece of the BIG MONEY. THAT business appears to be as bad or worse than any other racket, it is the greediest racket outside POLITICS and GOVERNMENT.
The show started becoming a HIT since the Rakolta fiasco backfired. That's during season 3, with both creators still on the show (one left at the end of season 7 and the other one followed suit 2 seasons later). But yeah, first seasons were golden. 4 and 5, not so much. Season 6 was the last redeemable one as since season 7 the show took a hefty nosedive. Like "just going through the motions as a cope mechanism" mediocrity. The cast could've just replicated Gleason's approach during MwC's golden years, but instead they decided rotting themselves and letting Fox discard them at the end. They took Al and turned into a weak minded simp
This show was part of my childhood...Every family is different and has different ways of raising children and having a family and everything in this show was the thay way I was raised.
I loved this show and it was so eyeopening the 90's.....yes it was awful towards women but because that wwas and is the reality in america and around this time most shows were about super white wealthy people that always get along at the end. I really think it changed american tv history, it was so refreshing.
They say it’s just characters but most movies and or characters are based on real life events or ppl so that’s just an excuse and she didn’t have to take on the role on a moral standpoint but she gave her excuse🙄
Then tell us what real life events or real people this show was based on, oh enlightened one. What a stupid thing to say. SOME movies and characters are based on real events and people, but if they are, they are required to have a disclaimer somewhere saying so, and they normally say they changed the names to protect the identities of those it was based on. To say MOST movies or characters are based on real life events is stupid. Some are. Some aren't. NOT MOST. What real life talking lions did Disney base The Lion King on? She gaver her excuse? Yeah, it makes no sense. She didn't do anything in her acting on the show to counteract the sexism of it, or whatever nonsense she was trying to say. The women were just as sexist against the men as the men were against the women on that show. That's why it was funny. Back then, people laughed at things because they were irreverent, pushing the envelope, or intentionally outlandish. They didn't laugh at it because they condoned that kind of behavior in real life. They laughed because it was outrageous, over the top, and a highly exaggerated version of how people act in real life.
I always loved the show because I never took it seriously. The storylines and events on the show (especially the more the series went on) often jumped the shark and were absurd. Al Bundy was as funny as he was because he also was never intended to be taken seriously or seen as a hero. He was a sexist, ignorant and uneducated buffoon who has the worst luck and outcomes. He lost and ended up not getting his way most of the time. The problem was that too many sexist and incel men saw him as a hero. They took the character to a status of worship that the show’s writers and creators never intended. They missed the whole point of the character and the show because they themselves were assholes in their own lives.
The Best Show that ever aired on TV in my opinion but I dont want to hear any whining from the female actors some 30 years later about how the Show was Sexualized they were all paid well for their services...I swear sometimes I think women can literally ruin everything in life Sex sells everything just ask Madonna it made her a Superstar of Superstars she made over $1.2 Billion she isn't complaining one bit$$$$$$$$$$ so women follow the example
No IT wouldn’t be able to run without SJW’s having a heart attack every five seconds over how irl really was, well for a good percentage of Americans. I can speak for where I grew up and I grew up in a north shore Chicago suburban neighborhood just a stone throw away from where the show was based on, then moved to West Los Angeles. Being the same age as “Kelly Bundy” my gfs all dressed like that, would all go out with “rockers” sometimes 10yrs older. Many of their dads reminded us of Al and the moms that didn’t work would really remind us of Peg. That’s how i remember it. Had all that gone on now a days, well it kind of does, and that’s why there are more legal problems. Jerry Springer type talk shows are still on. Why? Because it’s still going on. I think that there are dreamers out there thinking that all that stuff just magically went away. That teen girls just stopped going out with guys in there 20s and up. 30+ year old men never cheat on their 30+yr old wives with 15-18 yr old babysitters. Wake up and really look around if you don’t think it’s happening anymore.

Still a great show and I stand by it. It was a different time.
Exactly 👏 👏 👏
Al Bundy is an ICON. There is no chance that in today sick, oversensitive, pathetic and weak society this would get a green light on TV. 4 TOUCHDOWNS in one game BABY!
Ya , Segal whines about the series being exploitative now, but could have quit at any time. Stayed for all the millions, didn't you Katey.
Same goes for CA, who's been whining about being typecast but still never quit. Both of them rode the gravy train, especially now with the coming cartoon revival
@@raghost15 Women say the same about porn, but they stay in it for 7 YEARS and then when they are washed up, say how terrible it was. lol
Yep
@@raghost15 Oh lord..a cartoon revival? I can see it being an utter trainwreck and everything that made it funny will be cut and injected with woke bullshittery.
MWC put all of the cast on the map.
Married with children would be cancelled today.
More prudes and ill-humored people nowadays.
It would be canceled today because people of today are emotional train wrecks. No back bones. Leave your feeling at the door. Sell crazy in a mother town, we’re all full here.People of today couldn’t survive the 60s, 70s, and 80s.
Snowflakes will lose their f****** minds if to show air today
I was trying to get cancelled ever since it was created.
Why? Larry David show, Arrested Development, South Park, it’s Always Sunny… there are a ton of “controversial” shows after MWC 😂
Loved Peg Bundy she was the only reason I watched the show
I watched for Kelly!!!
Married with Children wouldn't last on TV today due to the many crazy and messed up things that was shown on the show.
It was great
Today everything is shit
No....it wouldn't last on TV today due to the many crazy and messed up people who are woke cupcakes and would cry and bitch about the show along with everything else. Society has fallen so far down.
You mean because of how whiny and shitty people are now.
Al even helped Marcy sometimes
Mwc was a lot cleaner than what's going on on tv now
Poor lady. She's such a strong symbol for us. Love to you.
Exactly
MARRIED, and the SIMPSONS are what put the Fox network on the map.
As is with most comedies that aired from the 70s to today, they should not be taken too seriously. Just watch for the funny antics and laugh at them. I am in my early 50's and watched Married with Children ever since they began. Still do today as I have all the seasons on DVD.
I am sure Katie Sagan didn’t mind cashing in her checks and making inappropriate comments about men herself.
Shows now are much more inappropriate and perverse. Married with Children was mildly inappropriate, but still very tame
Different time! You can speak about misogyny now, but I guarantee if she had at the time went public with that, she would of been fired or the show would of been pulled from the air.
One of the best shows ever!! The entire cast was fabulous!!
I hope Christina Applegate is doing well & I wish her the best in the future.🙏
Al and Peggy are LEGENDARY!
Still the best show ever.💖👍
When Amanda Bearse came out my first thought was, "Welp, now we know why Steve left."
😐
I loved any episode where Al started reminiscing about his high school football days 😂😂😂😂 he refused to let that go 😂😂😂😂😂😂
The "lost episode" was released LONG before 2004!!!! I watched it in 1998 after the cancelation. Nicki Swift needs to double check the facts.
There will never be a better show for men ever again thank you cast from married with children
so two and half men dont count
This show was great .I love Al
I still think it is one the best comedies ever!
I was 12 when MwC premiered. OMG, it was absolutely hilarious. And, it still is.
Amanda is a CHICKEN till the end 😂
I loved married with children growing up and the casts made me laugh 😅 I was only little at the time.
This show is hilarious!
One of the best shows ever!
Katy Sagal is a treasure. She's amazing.
Please tell me that most Americans, aren't as prudish as this lady. Sounds like a really good show to me
No sex please, we're American.
Loved it I still watch it and I have the whole series collection. If you don't like simply don't watch it!
The blonde always cracked me up lol 😂 I mean that's taking the dumb blonde to a whole new level she broke ground thier
She got dumber by the year … Kinda like Jake on Two and a Half Men …
This was an amazing show. Back when men were men.
I just wanna give Katey Sagal a hug now 🥺
It was a satire with the satirical elements painted in the broadest of brush strokes. If some people didn't understand that, and I'm sure some still don't, then they have the freedom to change channels. I don't need a Terry Rakolta to do my thinking for me. And I certainly wish we still had show like MWC to bring some mirth into our lives.
Unlike Friends and Fullhouse Married with children is fun and has a plot knows how to catch people's attention
Thank you mom!
For letting me watch mwc with you when I was little!
Good times. My 41 yr old a** bought the DVD collection and using it on my Xbox cuz ,,,, do they even make dvd players anymore....?
Great show
I love this show!
This show was timeless, I still watch it
Ahhh !.....The Good Ol' Days !!
Bullshit list, proof that today's society is weak and why we can't have nice things,if anything this vid vindicates many of the things the show warned us about with humor.
Yes
I'm addicted to comedies bring back mwc
I mean… I wasn’t inspired to be like any of the characters more like not to be anything like them or be around people like that. It was funny and not necessarily inspiring.
Hearing they dont get residuals is surprising. I hadnt heard that before.
I wasn’t looking to Al Bundy for moral ethics. I was more towards the Soupy Sales outlook on Life.
I loved this show 😂😂😂
Funniest damn show ever! Al Bundy is a legend and if he was listening to your "me too" crap review, Al Bundy would have 2 words for you - "NO MAM"!
Oh my god. Why are you bringing up sexual assault when saying you like a good show from the 90s? Wtf is wrong with you? And actually Al Bundy just returned an honorary degree because the person who gave it to him has committed sexual assault and is an election denier. 😊
You know what I do when I don't like a show. I don't fucking watch the show
I loved the show. Still do.
Whatever,best sitcom ever.
Hollywood is the devil's playground
I get annoyed with actors going forth season after season then expressing regret when the series ends. Angus T. Jones made 300K per episode on Two and a Half Men then became a Mormon and disparaged the series. Katey Sagal is up there with Lucy & Carol-- so embrace it and be proud of your Peggy Bundy. Of all sitcoms Married With Children still makes me laugh from the gut.
If it’s on, I’m watching it
Of course it was sexist! That was the damn joke!!! Arggggghhh!
You don't know what it was about huh.
The bundy family took family vacations, had family meals when they could afford it, comforted each other when needed, supporting each other when sports was involved, they voted, and they kicked others butt when they did a Bundy wrong.
I don't care what you say I love this show lol.
Thanks for sharing 👍😀
Loved that show.
No joke and no sarcasm in my comment.
gynocentric traps
It's not a coincidence that since season 7 the show's humour started to age for the most part. That slapstick approach didn't do wonders in the long run
People who work and go to strip clubs are there if their own free American will no exploitation there and it's legal no crime
Its the best TV show American has ever done.
Tuxedoes now there’s a funny word😂😂😂
Great show and it put some porn stars to work .some of us believe that's a good thing everyone has a different take on what is morality
Best comment on this thread. Great take .
I watched the controversial episode a few months ago it definitely was too provocative
Only “controversial” for the weak minded …
The Best Show that ever aired on TV in my opinion but I dont want to hear any whining from the female actors some 30 years later about how the Show was Sexualized they were all paid well for their services...I swear sometimes I think women can literally ruin everything in life Sex sells everything just ask Madonna it made her a Superstar of Superstars she made over $1.2 Billion she isn't complaining one bit$$$$$$$$$$ so women follow the example
Grew up with the show, but Katie will ALWAYS be Lela to me. ♥️
This show is 💯 better than anything on TV and cable today. They knew what the definition of a woman was and had no problem displaying it.
What is the definition of a woman? Just curious about your comment.
Ya this show was exploitative, and Baywatch was inspirational lol
Thank you 👏
The only thing dark about Married With Children is that it ended
Love the show, if someone doesn't like it then don't watch it.
"Two women wearing tuxedos" now who would laugh at that...
