It's a one-sided crush thing, made even more difficult by them being of the same gender. While the love was not returned, it was at least accepted for what it was :)

So the black hair guy was gay but the blonde hair guy wasn't, ok but then I wonder why did they go alone to a quiet place in the woods near to a river to watch fireworks? that's a romantic situation, not a friendly situation; so the begining of the story is wrong because it implies that the blonde guy is also gay for accept to do such thing.
A better aproach could have been if they were spectators in a sport event or something because it's a more natural situation for friends to be in and the message about not want to be gay but still be friends would have been more powerful, because it would have been more relatable to a lot of people who is straight and feels unconfortable when this things happens to them; specially in this current times where the propaganda of "being gay" is everywhere.
