We *could* have had the latter in P5 had Sae gained a Persona as well and she then went on to join Makoto as part of the Phantom Thieves, and the former could have happened if Sojiro had become a Phantom Thief alongside Futaba.
Fun Fact: Zenkichi is now the oldest playable character in the Persona series (in his 40s). The previous record holder was Baofu from Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, who was 32 at the time he was playable.
