  • In this video I look at the utility of a blue tooth speaker microphone for a portable radio. It has it's advantages and disadvantages. Decide for yourself if going wireless is for you.

That hissy crackly signal when you did the range test didn't sound like Bluetooth, it sounded like FM, Bluetooth is either there with a good signal. or not there at all.

I agree. That is definitely not a digital connection between the mic and the base, in otherwords, not Bluetooth.

The adapter does the work for you in this product. If the radio has BT you would be better off with the vendors BT mic. Thanks for watching !

I've finally got one of the RTL SDR dongles coming. Any suggestions on that?

I will let you know when mine gets here tomorrow. 25 dollar SDR ? count me in ! for VHF UHF I really like a discone. for higher frequency stuff Kent electronics has a PCB Planar Disk antenna that covers 700mhz to 26 ghz that I have been curious about trying out. Thanks for watching !

Yes, made a discone. 27mhz to 1.3 Ghz. We shall see. Mine will be the RTL-SDR.com v3 dongle that comes with 2 antennas.. Direct sampling should let one receive HF if on an HF antenna as well. Listening will be more important than transmitting. Unfortunately laptops are power hungry. Renogy.com has inexpensive solar panels, about $1/watt.

Sounds good ! I am slowly transitioning as much radio stuff as I can to tablets to save power. There is an android app for the dongle but it isn't free and I'm looking forward to experimenting with it. I have an inexpensive folding panel that is 60 watts which has worked out great so far. I have an upcoming video using it to power my portable UHF repeater. +1 on listening.

Good idea. What are, and what is the cost of tables you recommend?

Correction: ''tables'' should read as 'tablets'.
