Isn't it lovely to see such nice people genuinely enjoying themselves?
This kind of civility is sorely absent from our society
I love how she's just naughty enough to make Mr. Daly blush.
Arlene was one of the main reasons I watched this show. I LOVED her! Beautiful, quick wit and sharp as a tack!
Long live Arlene Francis!
She is beyond precious. Beyond adorable. Beyond classy. How could one not fall in love with this wonderful woman? 🤗
The more I see of Arlene Francis the more I like her, she gets better and better.
I wish she could have been the mystery guest just once on the show. Imagine how much fun she would have made it!
Brittany Welty I'll bet she could not disguise herself.
Thought the seem thing.
Brittany Welty imagine if she was a mystery guest, but on one of the early episodes that were destroyed
I love the way she'd look at the camera as she laughed at her own joke or the situation, as if she were at a party and including the entire viewing audience in on the fun. What an endearing and engaging personality...John Daley always got the biggest kick out of her.
My Grandmother loved Arlene, my Uncle bought her an exact copy of Arlene's heart necklace my Grandmother was thrilled ❤
She was so sweet and positive...
I bet that everyone who knew her, did like her very much :))
her smile was adorable :)
I wonder what Arlene's son would think of renewed popularity amongst us younger (I'll count myself as 'relatively' younger;) viewers. I'm sure he'd be proud. His mother was one-of-a-kind. I adore Arlene, too.
I wonder the same
Arlene Francis was such a treasure! She made life seem so fun and she thoroughly enjoyed every moment!
Damn the thief who mugged her and stole her heart-shaped locket. It is a perfect piece of jewelry because it repeats in miniature the heart-shape of her lovely face.
"You haven't seen an egg come out of a cow!" I haven't either.
I LOVE the part where Martin (her husband) was like
"Because dear! It costs less than 3,000 dollars!"
Ahhh it was PERFECT.
Arlene is so dignified and classy.
Wonderful woman. And especially funny and witty.
I have seriously watched this video soo many times it's crazy. I think I've commented on it already before too.
It gives me such happiness!!
She's such a great woman. Funny, Witty, Charming and everything else!!
Especially that gorgeous smile.
I think she made the show. Everyone else on the panel is great. But if I lived back then, the only motivation of watching this show would be Arlene.
Arlene is Amazing... these clips taped nearly 50 years ago and she lights up the stage with her Charm and wit... like its happening now.....
Arlene Francis was always my favorite watching WML growing up. She was pretty, intelligent, witty, and funny. When tv had class, she was the teacher.
I grew up in the 50's when TV was 3 channels only and black and white only until the mid 60's. I love What's My Line, and especially Arlene Francis. She was so witty, clever and smart on top of being fun to watch. I used to beg my mother to let me watch WML on Sunday nights--I lived in Utah and I think it came on at 8pm, maybe even later. She enjoyed it so much it wasn't hard to get her to let me. Seeing these clips on UA-cam is really a treat for an old guy.
My elderly parents just watched a dvd of these shows that I downloaded for them.
There's hasn't been a happy marriage for a very long time, but to hear them both laughing and reminiscing about the days back when these first aired remined me of how they were with each other 30 years ago. I've got a lump in my throat just thinking about it. Thank you so much for posting thse clips of a time, not so very long ago and still in many people's hearts.
i'm always amazed at how quick arlene was with a witty response, razor sharp wit.
"There comes a time when a man talks to much"........EPIC!!!
That really needs to be a meme or a gif lmao
yes! great moment!
I wasn’t even born when this show started but I watch this now and I adore Arlene - such grace and infectious smile and laughter. I also enjoy Dorothy’s shrewd intellect and humor as well as the gentlemen that Bennett and John Daly were. A bygone era. Thanks for sharing!
I know I left my comment for this clip a few months ago but I would like to write another again. Arlene Francis was just amazing. I wish she had been born some decades later; we could see her on TV as a great actress. "Would it hit anything between the waist and the knees? Bennett, I don't wear one!" Other lines are really funny to hear. I think she was elegant, witty, charming; she did have class which young women today totally lack. Thanks for posting this clip.
Arlene Francis is immortal.
What a brilliant, charming and funny woman she was! She's delightful... I could watch hours and hours of this.
I like to think all of America wanted to give this delightful woman a huge hug! She was so intelligent, witty and vivacious.
I've just bought her autobiography - can't wait to read it :-)
Arlene Francis just radiated warmth, charm and wit. In the world of television, there's been nobody like her since.
You know, I've just shown this video to dad. He used to watch this show... and lol the coolest thing was to observ tears in his eyes... like a connection to the past and the good moments it might remind him of.
LOL Adorable times.. wish somehow I could go back too. People seemed happier than today.
Arlene Francis was awesome. God Bless her.
I think this beautiful, dear lady was one of a kind. She is such a joy to watch.
The first word that comes to my mind when thinking of Ms. Arlene is STUNNING. My first memory of her, believe it or not, is in "The Thrill of it All," playing a perpetually sunny, elegant, matron expecting rather late in life. Later on, I just regarded her as 'Miss WML'- perhaps the most necessary fourth of such a witty, erudite, and classy panel show. Love every response from this lady- always witty, sharp as a tack, but also warm, engaging, and smiling. Thank you for this.
Arlene fills me with happiness!! My favourite panelist, although I adore Bennett and Mr Daly!
Dorothy: "Go to the nearest Dairy and buy some eggs."
Arlene: " You haven't seen an egg come out of cow in I don't know how long.."
What fun it is to watch these clips. Thanks for posting them.
My mother liked Arlene (and Dorothy). I do too. Lovely, lovely, ladies.
Arlene was a true gem and like a pearl, a rarity to find in today's vast universe of movie and music celebrities. She authentically possessed the wit, classiness, humoristic style and of being a truly genuine and sincere person who's eyes sparkled when she endearingly smiled.
she has what i think is the best smiles in early television!!!
I believe that particular episode is from shortly after a car accident in 1963, where she collided with another car, and the other driver was killed. Apart from the emotional repercussions, she also suffered a concussion and a broken shoulder - So it might simply have been strong pain killers which made her seem a bit tipsy.
Under all circumstances she is absolutely adorable when she goes "ping, ping, ping, ping" and demonstrates how to blow a bagpipe.
I had to dig a bit to discover Arlene lost control of her car in heavy rain which sent her into the path of the other car. Just a case of bad luck all around.
what is the episode from which the last clip comes from? (Girdle designer)
I really love this lady and this show…❤️‼️
Thank you - I'm glad you liked it - unfortunately when you watch the video on UA-cam the audio is out of synch. Don't know why...
But yeah - Arlene was an amazing woman!!!
Dear Arlene the delightful star. Rest in peace. There are no stars at the present time.
She was LIT for that bell maker for sure.
Thank you so much for posting this gem.
It's a reminder of a kinder, classier but still very funny time for network tv.
Arlene is one of my favorite people, Her cleverness and sense of fun were contagous and added so much to every program. I still smile as I see that angelic smile, that will forever light our lives!
Thank you for posting! Friggin hilarious! Every night I watch three or four of the shows! My wife thinks I am nuts! Hahahaha!!! They are awesome!!
And a very talented actress!
(- I would love to read her cookbook too :-)
Thank you so much for all your wonderful comments about WML - I always enjoy reading them.
Love Arlene Francis! What a classic beauty inside and out! So funny & smart! My father had the pleasure of meeting not only her but the rest of the panel when he was on the show in the early 60s. That must have been such fun!
which episode? Is it on these Shown? so cool!
What a delightful, witty, charming and beautiful woman. Today's actresses could learn a lot from Ms. Francis' style and grace.
Arlene Francis had it all.
Today, we remember Arlene Francis for her years in What's My Line? That constituted only a part of her busy life.
She worked as
one of the first, if not THE first woman host of a TV game show
the first woman to host a morning TV information show "NBC Home"
the first woman to guest host "NBC Tonight Show " for Paar (and between Paar and Carson)
a member of 1964 New York World's Fair Board of Directors
a radio show host
NBC Radio Monitor correspondent.
What game show did she host? Never heard she hosted a game show, only talk show.
She said, "For example .... (starts laughing) it's a bell!"
Thank you. I couldn’t catch what she said, and why everyone laughed.
I just love watching Arlene Francis on this show - so witty and downright hilarious! Most importantly - always authentically so! Great editing, by the way, to give us context to the segments, and thank you very much for sharing!
These are all delightful, and genuinely funny moments!!!
Back when people had a sense of humor without being insulting to each other - oh, how I miss those times.
I have watched that particular episode so many times - and it still makes me laugh!
She's even more charming when she's.. shall we say.. tipsy! And the reaction from the other panellists is so funny.
Especially Bennett Cerf at 4.31 - and the comment "You're demonstrative tonight, Arlene" at 4.45
Her tipsy laughter reminds me of her character's never ending laughter at the beginning of "The Thrill Of It All" (- That is by the way the one of best openings to a movie I have ever seen)
What makes you think she was "tipsy?"
right on the mark with your description of this wonderful, funny, beatiful lady!
She was a rare gem
Thank you so much! Now when I need my Arlene fix I can watch this beautifully constructed 'best of' video!!
Arlene is my all time favourite contestant. No one else can compare to her wit, charm and glamorous, yet girl-next-door appeal. Not to mention her comedic timing!
Thank you!
"does it have a bell like tone for example a bell"
omg this is too funny! Arlene is amazing!
you know this show combined elegance with risque. nothing like that on tv these days.
This was hillarious!! Thanks so much for putting this together and sharing it.
In the clip with the bell maker she is positively plastered and it's just priceless!!! I think Bennett and Dorothy knew as well and thought it was great fun
I thought it was just Arlene being Arlene. Never thought of her being inebriated.
Beautiful, articulate, fun, and endearing.
She was so warm and so witty. The fact that I’m from a small town in the North of England and I’m watching this in 2021 and smiling from ear to ear says so much.
Peter looks so much like his dad...He was pretty good looking!!!
I was just thinking how much he looked like Arlene- the Armenian Shows in both their features. He has her nose and her sparkly eyes. They both smile with their eyes!
Her eyes sparkle as bright as her smile.
LOL this is hilarious! Then again what would I expect, Arlene's the most witty, funny and charming person to ever step foot on the planet :D
Thank you for posting WMLandPassword, you did a marvelous Job!
Arlene Francis was brilliant very witty a great sport
Yes, Arlene was quite tipsy during the Bell segment, but she did guess it !!
And an author to boot. Besides the cookbook, she also wrote a book called _That Certain Something: The Magic of Charm_ in 1960. I'm keeping my eyes open at second-hand book stores for that one. And her autobiography too.
She is beautiful and so classy!!!
Tony is embarrased by Arlenes behavior. Turns his head. Ridiculous. No one else does. Arlene is both funny and precious at the same time.
calalilygirl
He may have been embarassed FOR her.
Love Arlene. That heart necklace she always wore. What a classy lady she was.
I do love Arlene!!!
Arlene has got to be an ANGEL in heaven right now.
I hope so😊
THAT was a great time to be alive!
There once was a time when there were TV programs that were witty &intelligent rather than crass&vulgar
I think she says, "it's a bell" ?
its my favorite game show.
her son fooled her twice!
i do remember watching the "design girdle" segment more then a year ago which i found was a very amusing segment which probably was on the channel Buzzr since i seem to cannot find it anywhere here
Arlene is precious
If I get to heaven, I wanna hang out with Arlene and Bret Somers.
I remember watching this in reruns as a kid. How "mah-velous" (Arlene!!!) to be able to see it again on my little iPhone ...
what a terrific piece of work. thanks so much. i'm so upset that GSN (at least in my part of the country) has removed what's my line from its line up. this is a fantastic video. thanks so much!!!
"ping ping ping ping"
Martin and Arlene were the perfect couple.
Why in the world did Arlene marry that moron Gabel?
Her reaction to Colonel Sanders was priceless! 😂
Først en kommentar fra Norge - og nu fra Sverige... Vi elsker WML i Skandinavien :D
Ja Arlene Francis var fantastisk!!!
Dine videoer er utrolig gode! Især "Here Comes the Sun" og "One Way or Another" - Tak for at du deler dem med os :-)
Thanks, Kristin!
Bennet, I don't wear one! lmao
They had such a good time on that show, I think tipsy for all was necessary.
What a fantastic woman.
Her greatest acting job was as a pregnant wife at the age of 56 in a Doris Day movie in 1963.
I don´t think so. In "One - Two - Three" she was the wife of James Cagney.
I thought she looked so unrealistic at 56 and pregnant.
I love "The Thrill of it All" with Arlene, Doris Day and James Garner. I must say I that have had a crush on her, mostly due to her wit, intelligence and charm.
Great video!
If 4:39 is anything to go by, Arlene's charm and personality ALSO have a *r-r-r-r-r-r-ringing* sound about them :)
Sounds like she had a cocktail or two before the show.
CrazyWedz I thought so as well. She’s still adorable!
I can't find that one on UA-cam - and I've only got this small bit of the video myself.
I can't remember where I found it... Sorry :-(
Happy Birthday Arlene!!!!!!
Arlene always wore that heart pendant around her neck and it was given to her by Bennett Cerf. She never took it off until it was stolen from her neck in 1989 in New York City by a petty criminal. Arlene was the epitome of class! At 47 it puts a smile on my heart to be able to watch these shows.
She was given the heart pendant by Martin Gabel to whom she was married for 40 years. However it was, sadly, stolen but in 1987 a year after Martin passed away. Funny thing though, I read in an article from the late 50s with Arlene that once the clasp broke so they had to have it repaired at Tiffany's, where it was originally made, so for an episode of WML she didn't wear the necklace. Everyone assumed she and Martin had in fact split up; after that she always wore the necklace...
+Louise Lundh
oh that is interesting. so sad that it was stolen...
Arlene looks great in younger years.
I love Arlene! Great woman. But was she a bit tipsy in the bell sequence?
At this point in my life I come to this show and Arlene to get away from the realities of america in Summer of 2017
Church bells is my for ever favourite!! I always think she must have been drunk.
