1. Taj Mahal : The Taj Mahal is situated on the right bank of the Yamuna River in a huge Mughal garden which is spread across an area of 17 hectares, in Agra city of Uttar Pradesh. It was constructed by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal and it started in 1632 AD and was completed in 1648 AD, which had the mosque, the guest house as well as the main gateway on the south, the outer courtyard as well as its cloisters were later added subsequently and completed in the year 1653 AD.
2. Fatehpur Sikri: Fatehpur Sikri is situated in Agra District in the Uttar Pradesh state of India. It was built to the southeast of an artificial lake, which is on the slopping levels of the outcrops of the Vindhyan hill ranges. Called as the “city of victory”, it was known to be the capital of Mughals and was made by Mughal emperor Akbar (r. 1556-1605 CE) between 1571 and 1573. Fatehpur Sikri was known to be the first planned city of the Mughal Empire, which was marked by magnificent administrative, residential, as well as religious buildings.
3. Agra Fort : Agra Fort is known to be a historical fort in Agra, which was the main residence of the Mughal Emperors till 1638, after which the capital was shifted from Agra to Delhi. The Agra fort is known to be a UNESCO World Heritage site and is located 2.5 km northwest of the Taj Mahal. The fort can also be described as a walled city. Soon after the First Battle of Panipat in the year 1526, Babur stayed in this fort, in the palace of Ibrahim Lodi. Later he built a baoli in it.
4. Akbar's Tomb : This tomb is located in Sikandra Area of the Agra City. It is known to have the mortal remains of the Mughal Emperor Akbar, who, during his lifetime started the construction and was later completed by his son, Jahangir. The shape of this tomb is actually pyramidal and has a total number of of five storeys. The cenotaph is known to be at a level below the ground level, while the one on the top floor is said to be a false one.
5. Tomb of Mariam-uz-Zamani : This mausoleum of Jodha Bai, who was known to be the Hindu consort of the Mughal Emperor Akbar, is situated on the left side of Agra-Mathura road, while you move to the west of Akbar's tomb in Sikandra. It was made by Jahangir in the memory of his mother Mariam-uz-Zamani and is located quite close to Akbar's Tomb as per the last wish expressed by her. The structure of this tomb was originally a baradari during the rule of Sikander Lodi who built it in the year 1495.
6. Itmad-ud-Daulah's Tomb : Tomb of Itmad-ud-Daulah or Itmad-ud-Daulah's maqbara is a Mughal mausoleum located in Agra. It is often called as a "jewel box", sometimes referred to as "Bachcha Taj" or the "Baby Taj", this tomb is often referred as a draft of the popular Taj Mahal. Along with the tomb's main building, the structure has a bumber of outbuildings as well as gardens. The tomb, was built from 1622 and 1628.
7. Aram Bagh : The Aram Bagh is known to be the oldest Mughal Garden in India, which was originally constructed by the Mughal Emperor Babur in the year 1528, situated about 5 km northeast of Taj Mahal in Agra. Babur was known to be temporarily buried at this place before his body was taken to Kabul. The garden is known to be a Persian garden, where pathways as well as canals divide the garden for representing the Islamic ideal of paradise, an abundant garden through which rivers flow.
