The judge literally sentenced him to death and y’all are mad that he was polite. It’s an important precedent to set that you, especially as a judge, can see the good in people and yet still carry out what justice must be done. I don’t want my judges to be sentencing people to death out of spite and anger. Seriously, let justice be done without hatred but with care. The court is for good, not revenge.

I really do not think the words of the judge were totally praiseworthy of Bundy. A little too chummy, sure; however, I think what he was trying to say if he was not a total psychopath he would be an upstanding citizen and that it was sad that he was such a piece of garbage.
Your assessment is more accurate. There's other footage where the judge admonishes him. He also comforts the mother of a nervous witness. He heard all the horrors first hand, probably felt some sympathy for Bundy's mother, and probably just felt what a waste. He wasn't fooled by anyone's "charm".
The "partner" comment and saying "I would of loved to have you practice in my courtroom" were a little too much for someone who had raped and murdered so many young women, including a 12 year old girl. I personally would of said: I'm glad you will no longer be living among us. Then left it at that.

What Judge Cowart said to Ted Bundy is without question the most relevant, necessary, and well-thought out statement I have ever seen a judge say to a criminal defendant (I am a law student and I have read plenty of these statements). What he said needed to be said to Ted: He had such great potential to make a great attorney or politician, and he peed that opportunity down his leg and instead used his potential to kill innocent women and cause irreparable damage to numerous families.

Juries are usually even dumber and easier fooled by feelings than someone who actually knows the law. The jury can easily be fooled by feelings, which can have positive or negative effects.

The judges final words were crippling, not polite. His decision and dialogue explained how Bundy not only failed at becoming a decent lawyer, but also as the elusive murderer he always was. Bundy cared only for his escape, the judge understood that and almost seemed to hint that he was a better lawyer than killer. Judges also are to remain emotionless as possible over matters. What he said was wise and respectful as it should be when upholding a position of power like that

The words of the judge haunted Bundy as he waited for his execution. It reminded Bundy of what could have been, which is a terrible thing to live with. It wasn’t a good performance he turned down a plea deal that would have saved his life turned his own trial into a media farce by getting himself onto his own legal council and turned the jury and his own defence against him with his antics. He literally got himself the death penalty with his antics, the prosecution literally offered him a plea deal because they didn’t think they had enough evidence for a conviction

It wasn't that the judge was caught up in Bundy's charms. It was quite to the contrary. He was pointing out to Bundy how dramatically different his life could have turned out, had he chosen to practice law and live within the confines of the law. The judge chose to state this out of compassion and sorrow, from one human being to another. Issuing a death sentence is no easy matter, no matter how much someone deserves it. And at the end of the day, it didn't change the fact that the judge felt that weight upon his shoulders, as I am sure he did many others. Don't misunderstand me, Bundy deserved the sentence that he was given. I'm only saying that judges are human, too. They have the ability to express compassion, even to the most heinous of offenders. I believe the moment that we cease to show compassion, our effectiveness as law enforcement officers, attorneys, and others courtroom actors will preclude us from being interested in the truth or doing what is right any longer. Many call Bundy a "monster", and on some levels, he was. However, at the end of the day, he was just a man, who was caught and arrested by men, tired by men, and sentenced to death by a man.

Even though the judges words were "kind", I believe them to be the final nail in Bundy's coffin. I've watched multiple Ted Bundy Documentaries and movies but I can't name one of his victim's names off the top of my head. I'm sure most people can't. Experts believe Ted killed way over 30 women, and Ted himself said he's killed in the triple digits. So there are probably a lot of dead women who suffered horribly that don't even get this said 'remembrance' you speak of.
A local actor I know who's a retired attorney told me he was in law school in the state of Utah where Bundy was imprisoned. He told me as he was touring the facility, he saw Ted heading to court with his team of lawyers. Ted looked at my friend and said to his lawyers, "See that guy over there? He's a law student. I can smell him a mile a way." Then gave him an evil glare. My actor friend said "That comment sent chills down my spine."

I think, despite the horrific crimes Bundy committed this decision lay heavy on the heart of the judge. He could see the tragedy of Bundy himself. The waste of a fine young man. I don't believe in the death penalty. Had Bundy lived, he would have been an old man by now. He was born in 1946 and today would have been 69 this coming November. Because he died young and still handsome, he has erroneously become a poster boy for serial murder. Had he been placed in a secure psychiatric institution, where he could have contributed a great deal to the study of serial killers like himself, the world would have gained much. As it is, they lost a great deal in murdering Bundy. There is simply no excuse for this. There are many ways he could have been stopped from running, they just never bothered to try any of them. Drug control, even castration would I believe have been sanctioned by Bundy if he had the choice. Furthermore, electronic devices to monitor his whereabouts at any time could have been implanted in him. All of these things would have made the death sentence unnecessary. Bundy was definitely insane, even if the law did not categorize him as such. The proper place for an insane person is in a psychiatric institution, not a concrete cell in solitary confinement.

Bundy didn't care about anyone but himself, telling him that he indeed could've been a great man had he not chosen to go out and murder people was the most effective way to reach him on some level. Bundy can't feel sorrow and remorse for what he did however he can feel these emotions for himself, so making him well aware of what could've been probably hurt him more than just calling him a despicable human being or monster.

Western zodiacs are only concerned with general behavior in life, your targets, your interests, your major merits and demerits only and nothin' more. This is according to your birthday. The second part is the representative system, how you receive the information, visual imagination or audio or feeling. These are three systems and you have one of them as the dominant. If you are visual, you only concerned with the global image of somethin' not with the details of it. If you are audio, you are sensitive to sounds and you like talking to people and asking them a lot. If you are a feeler, you are concerned with the feelings towards somethin' and the details of it. The 3rd part is the type of your character, leader, thinker, affectionate and expressive. Everybody have 3 ..a zodiac, a representative system and a character type. This affects your behavior by your own choice not by the coincident events or the moon and the sun. It's ironic that in this country, it takes so long to execute someone that the person imposing death on the defendant may have less time in this world than the defendant himself. By the time you're executed, the judge that pronounced doom on you is already gone.
What the judge said to the narcissist was perfect. Ted doesn't have true emotions and cares only for himself. By saying he could have been great but isn't would have bothered Ted deep down. They like to see themselves like Gods.
Judges are supposed to be fair and impartial while rendering their decisions and handing down sentences. This judge did just that and I think he is a great example of how all judges ought to be.

The judge knew what he was dealing with. Punishing psychopaths is what he does. He was genuinely impressed with Bundy's being relatively high functioning. It shows he was capable of self-control but chose instead, and of his own free will to rape naive young women for sport. That's why the judge describes it as a 'total lack of humanity'. He was extremely disciplinary with Bundy during the whole proceedings, treating him like a child as he knew that that was essentially Bundy's emotional age. He didn't take any of Teds petulant and childish crap.
I think i heard something about ted always being 10 years behind his peers or that may have been jouberrt.. But nah that judge was just from a time in american history that if you reached a certain age it was deemed acceptable to treat other grown men as children. Plus you know how old people like to think there superior to younger males.

Your assessment is more accurate. There's other footage where the judge admonishes him. He also comforts the mother of a nervous witness. He heard all the horrors first hand, probably felt some sympathy for Bundy's mother, and probably just felt what a waste. He wasn't fooled by anyone's "charm".

What he said needed to be said to Ted: He had such great potential to make a great attorney or politician, and he peed that opportunity down his leg and instead used his potential to kill innocent women and cause irreparable damage to numerous families.

The words of the judge haunted Bundy as he waited for his execution. It reminded Bundy of what could have been, which is a terrible thing to live with. Many ppl here are saying the judge was charmed by Bundy or that he shouldn’t have complimented him. The words weren’t complimentary. He was pointing out to Bundy how dramatically different his life could have turned out, had he chosen to practice law and live within the confines of the law. The judge chose to state this out of compassion and sorrow, from one human being to another. Issuing a death sentence is no easy matter, no matter how much someone deserves it. And at the end of the day, it didn't change the fact that the judge felt that weight upon his shoulders, as I am sure he did many others. Don't misunderstand me, Bundy deserved the sentence that he was given. I'm only saying that judges are human, too. They have the ability to express compassion, even to the most heinous of offenders. I believe the moment that we cease to show compassion, our effectiveness as law enforcement officers, attorneys, and others courtroom actors will preclude us from being interested in the truth or doing what is right any longer. Many call Bundy a "monster", and on some levels, he was. However, at the end of the day, he was just a man, who was caught and arrested by men, tired by men, and sentenced to death by a man.

I've watched multiple Ted Bundy Documentaries and movies but I can't name one of his victim's names off the top of my head. I'm sure most people can't. Experts believe Ted killed way over 30 women, and Ted himself said he's killed in the triple digits. So there are probably a lot of dead women who suffered horribly that don't even get this said 'remembrance' you speak of.

I think, despite the horrific crimes Bundy committed this decision lay heavy on the heart of the judge. He could see the tragedy of Bundy himself. The waste of a fine young man. I don't believe in the death penalty. Had Bundy lived, he would have been an old man by now. He was born in 1946 and today would have been 69 this coming November. Because he died young and still handsome, he has erroneously become a poster boy for serial murder. Had he been placed in a secure psychiatric institution, where he could have contributed a great deal to the study of serial killers like himself, the world would have gained much. As it is, they lost a great deal in murdering Bundy. There is simply no excuse for this. There are many ways he could have been stopped from running, they just never bothered to try any of them. Drug control, even castration would I believe have been sanctioned by Bundy if he had the choice. Furthermore, electronic devices to monitor his whereabouts at any time could have been implanted in him. All of these things would have made the death sentence unnecessary. Bundy was definitely insane, even if the law did not categorize him as such. The proper place for an insane person is in a psychiatric institution, not a concrete cell in solitary confinement.

Bundy didn't care about anyone but himself, telling him that he indeed could've been a great man had he not chosen to go out and murder people was the most effective way to reach him on some level. Bundy can't feel sorrow and remorse for what he did however he can feel these emotions for himself, so making him well aware of what could've been probably hurt him more than just calling him a despicable human being or monster.

Western zodiacs are only concerned with general behavior in life, your targets, your interests, your major merits and demerits only and nothin' more. This is according to your birthday. The second part is the representative system, how you receive the information, visual imagination or audio or feeling. These are three systems and you have one of them as the dominant. If you are visual, you only concerned with the global image of somethin' not with the details of it. If you are audio, you are sensitive to sounds and you like talking to people and asking them a lot. If you are a feeler, you are concerned with the feelings towards somethin' and the details of it. The 3rd part is the type of your character, leader, thinker, affectionate and expressive. Everybody have 3 ..a zodiac, a representative system and a character type. This affects your behavior by your own choice not by the coincident events or the moon and the sun. The judge knew what he was dealing with. Punishing psychopaths is what he does. He was genuinely impressed with Bundy's being relatively high functioning. It shows he was capable of self-control but chose instead, and of his own free will to rape naive young women for sport. That's why the judge describes it as a 'total lack of humanity'. He was extremely disciplinary with Bundy during the whole proceedings, treating him like a child as he knew that that was essentially Bundy's emotional age. He didn't take any of Teds petulant and childish crap.
I think i heard something about ted always being 10 years behind his peers or that may have been jouberrt.. But nah that judge was just from a time in american history that if you reached a certain age it was deemed acceptable to treat other grown men as children.
