They didn't actually start doing that until Heavensward Dungeons. Since then pretty much all of them have a piece of the zone that they're located in remixed.
A music that incorporates phrases from Gridania and The Black Shroud The story is a turning point in Heavensward, and I think people who started in Gridania will be deeply moved.
As someone who started in Gridania as a Lancer, coming out of Heavensward as a Dragoon, and hearing this song while going though Baelser's Wall felt like the game was saying welcome home.
I started as a Lancer. And while I switched over to Samurai, I pretty much consider Gridania my home. My one thought throughout this whole dungeon is: You want Gridania, Garlean scum? You'll have to get through me.
This theme and dungeon was an amazing send off from Heavensward and introduction to the story in Stormblood. It has such a sense of excitement to know what was gonna happen next.
Over a year later and this is still my favorite dungeon. The rearrangement of the tranquil shroud music into this militant and oppressive theme is impressive. It blends the clashing forest and steel so well.
I started in Gridania and eventually considered it my home so the stakes were even higher for me. When I started this dungeon, I thought to myself "You Garlean bastards want Gridania? You'll have to go through me!"
whenever i got this dungeon in roulette, i used to think it was an sb one, probably because the bgm sounds like it's from it, but it's actually hw. soken made a really nice transition from 3.5 to 4.0
This has been my inn-room theme that plays on the orchestrion ever since I got it. This track, I love the opening of it. Just epic, the strings(not sure if they're violins or a different variation) just sound so good. Plus it has the gridania themes lying underneath it all and I love it. This game has such fucking good music. Especially if you're a true fan of the single player FF games. I remember the moment I got to stormblood and met Hien for the first time and Cyan's theme from FF6 started playing, I literally lost it and couldn't get the grin off my face.
@Just a Human ....that's a dumb reason not to like the dungeon because of a one liner? The actual dungeon gameplay wise along with the mechanics had nice variety.
The first two bosses are based on machines from FF6. The first one is obvious, but the second one is based off of a monster called "Io". Also the Pugnax and Sky Armor are worth mentioning too.
Love the way they brought in the FF12 'Imperial/Empire' ish theme at the beginning, kinda reminiscence to it and the Black Shroud theme as well. Soken you genius--!
Does help that he took a page from the extreme book of bosses. Walls that probably kill you? check. Insta-death trap that has a near fool-proof way of working? check. Bad ass in general or crazy? Oh hell yeah.
Dude, I have mad respect for the English localization team. They're incredibly witty with the puns and pop culture references going all the way back to the fate near Costa del Sol, "It's not Lupus" with a giant crab named Cancer. A reference to the TV show, House. I really wish there was a list somewhere. Nearly every single fate, quest and many names are a play on something.
So, a question occurred to me - the Gridanians are all scared of doing anything the Elementals don't like, because they'll be afflicted with the Greenwrath (AKA "When Nature Attacks: The Movie: The Game"). How the heck do the Garleans have a Castrum set up in, or near, the Black Shroud? Shouldn't nature be busy screwing with them non-stop?
The Garleans are much like the legendary civilization that we keep doing raids in the ruins of, they don't care what any God says and they just try to overpower nature through brute force. Lore states this approach has ended the civilized world 7 times if you count Bahamut. So most likely the elements already have screwed them, or if not are planning a massive punishment for them.
Not all the cataclysms were started by the Elementals, and Bahamut *severely* weakened the Elementals, so I doubt they can do anything like the great Flood or anything like they did when Black+White magic went out of control. The Crystal Tower was (supposedly, there could've been many things) responsible for the cataclysm which ended Allag, for example, IIRC.
The Ascians are making sure Garlemald becomes Allag 2.0 so when it falls eventually and inevitably, it causes so much distruption that works for the Ascians in the end
This song is great, and for the longest time i had forgotten where i got the Orchestrion scroll, so i thought it was some FFT remix. Also the song title and dungeon is a reference to Pink Floyd and i am mad it took me so long to figure this out.
lol ala mhigans are so misunderstood, they got invaded by garland and were basically abandoned by the alliance, and ppl wonder why they have ill will to both sides
I don't think they're misunderstood, but I do feel sorry for the Ala Mhigan refugees including Ilberd even (he's still a dick dw). and The other Eorzean states didn't really have much of a reason or even a chance to help them, they had basically just ended a revolution when the Garleans just waltzed in and took over. That, and they weren't part of the Eorzean alliance so the other states weren't obligated to either. Refugees that escaped into the Shroud were rejected by the elementals, after the Ala Mhigans had waged war like a century beforehand, so the Gridanians couldn't take them in even if they wanted to. The Ul'dahns did take them in, but probably only to act as cheap labour, Little Ala Mhigo isn't all that impressive. Basically, I get that they're pissed off but what do they want everyone else to do about it?
The full triple alliance couldn't even take on Nael's remnant forces at Carteneau with Warriors of Light present. The VIIth met the Grand Companies on even footing without their leader present and handed out an asskicking before Dalamud 'sploded and Bahamut turned the battlefield so chaotic no one could win. There's no way any Eorzean city-state was taking on a dug in, well fortified Garlean legion. Even now storywise it's unlikely Eorzea could take on the might of Garlemald in Gyr Abania without massive losses. And that's throwing in Dravanian aid who thusfar haven't been mentioned in joining the Eorzean Alliance. The plight of the oppressed Ala Mihgans is one thing but the whole situation is and has been a quagmire.
Aldor PeaceKeeper To be fair the alliance refused to help Ala Mhigo because prior to the Garlean invasion of Eorzea Ala Mhigo had been hostile towards the other city states of Eorzea and even tried to invade Gridania.
Yup, Ala Mhigo has a long history of being war-loving expansionists. Naturally, some twenty odd years of being occupied by a tyrant ((and even more time of a mad tyrant before that)) will make other nations more likely to help you out as time goes on, though...
Immediately thought of Shining Force when I heard this song. This one track in particular: ua-cam.com/video/UWZseC6umcI/v-deo.html&ab_channel=wtcvidman
Hey come on. The English voice acting deserves some credit. It's come a long way since the start of A Realm Reborn. I changed over from Japanese to English since Heavensward. It's really improved over time. Granted I will say this. Ilberd's new voice in Heavensward is horrible. I loved his old voice. They made a big mistake dropping Richard Epcar of all people. He was really good as both Gaius and Ilberd.
You could say the English Acting can be _sloppy_ sometimes, huh? HUH? *HUH?* ((Note; i actually like most of the acting. The Griffon's VA never really sat well with me though, in all the scenes he was in before or after he put on the Griffon mask))
I love Gridania's theme so much. I love that they remix it and the other region themes so often, like a recurring motif of the game
They didn't actually start doing that until Heavensward Dungeons. Since then pretty much all of them have a piece of the zone that they're located in remixed.
I was under the impression that the trend started with Keeper of the Lake, with Silver Tears being based on the Mor Dhona field theme
Ah, you're right. I forgot about that one since Intertwined only plays on like half of Mor Dhona's map and only during the day...
Wondering if that means that this theme has bits of whatever theme is gonna be on the other side of the wall.

love the song. Starts with the tranquility of The Shrouds and gives way to a militaristic and imposing theme of The Garlrans.
This theme and dungeon was an amazing send off from Heavensward and introduction to the story in Stormblood. It has such a sense of excitement to know what was gonna happen next.
Love how this has a mix of central shroud theme in the song.
Over a year later and this is still my favorite dungeon. The rearrangement of the tranquil shroud music into this militant and oppressive theme is impressive. It blends the clashing forest and steel so well.
mega ff12 vibe from this music. love how hes worked the shrouds music into it
Love how Serenity is mixed into the song.
Whenever someone ask me why do I play FF14. This is the answer, the OST.
ikr? Weird reason to play a game but it's the same for me
Same ;)
I wouldn't say it's the main reason, but it's definitely what pulled me in to this game.
the only game where never wore headphones for different music. not once.

Dear Dissidia Opera Omnia devs:
Why did you have to hurt us like this
Hearing the beginning of this at the end of the 3.5 was so epic, especially the English version, because of the VA.
This has been my inn-room theme that plays on the orchestrion ever since I got it. This track, I love the opening of it. It's a full orchestra - violin, viola, cello and bass are the stringed instruments. I believe that first riff is on the cellos
Good theme, but the dungeon itself was a bit sloppy.
I don't know... Half the players in DF I meet are pretty sloppy when it comes to the dungeon really.
I JUST GOT THE JOKE AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I mean, I think it's just the griffin
Really? I find it to be one of my favorite dungeons in the game. Well layed out. Only part I found annoying was the conveyor belt sequence.

The part at 3:30 sounds like one of the tracks from the XIII saga a lot, not sure if this is intended or not
Considering it's a bit of the Black Shroud's theme, I doubt it was intentional.

That is still the Black Shroud theme
