    Up in Michigan we put drain tile (pipe) on the outside of the footing with a tee in the middle going thru the footing & teeing into the inside piping. We then discharge th.e sump to about 15 ft from the wall.

    In Wisconsin, the top of the sump crock must be 1" above finished floor so that no sewage could get pumped out with the storm water. Most cities here separate the storm and sanitary sewers so that, when it storms, the sanitation station doesn't get overwhelmed. Also, let's say that your sewer backs up your floor drain. Your method would have raw sewage being pumped out onto your lawn. I'd be curious to know your thoughts on this. Thanks!

      Yes in a perfect world there's always footing drains inside and outside.. the inside ones make sure there's no water that can enter and raise up in that floor.. 10 in of stone allows water to get less than 1 in high before it hits the pipe and gone! Outside footing drains always lead to daylight gravity fed if the elevation allows.. this site didn't so we do not want to bring water from outside back inside to a sub pit then pumped out.. Hope that made sense..

    I am building a new house and I hit bad soil and had to use 1x3 crushed stone as a base for pretty much the whole basement. I've had 3 sump pumps get absolutely coated in lime/calciuim and in turn, the float wouldn't rise so I had water in my basement multiple times. I asked my neighbor who just built his house a year ago and he has zero issues with lime/calcium buildup on the pump. Is the 1x3 the culprit? How is this getting into my sump pit if peastone was used on top of the interior and exterior drain pipes? Any ideas?

    This was very informative since I recently moved into my first home with a basement. If my sump pit has two drains connected to it, why does one drain always have water draining through to the pit while the other drain just has some water sitting in it (I never see water flowing through to the pit from this drain)? My sewage pit is right next to the drain that never has water flowing through, are the two connected in case the pump fails? This drain is also directed from the front of my house, which is higher up and by the garage so perhaps there just isn't much ground water? I'm trying to learn how everything works 🙂

    • @DIRT-BOSS
      @DIRT-BOSS  2 роки тому +1

    Good vid, but I'm questioning the purpose with the system. The general consensus is that an exterior french drain is superior to an inside french drain. As this is a new construction, it would be so easy to excavate a bit more outside the foundation and install perforated pipe and gravel. Also, avoid 90's in french drain. It is very hard to scope and clean out in the future.

    • @DIRT-BOSS
      @DIRT-BOSS  3 роки тому +3

      I agree there's many different applications.. this is not new construction It is a rehab burnt building we tied into existing and we only are going to do what's engineered on the print. That is what was bidded That is what was budgeted.

    Drain tile on the inside of the house is useless the water comes from the out side and seeps in on the cold joint of wall and footing. If your doing this just lay the same pipe on the outside the hole is open and you have easy axis . Hydrostatic presure?

    Why perforated pipes. I thought the idea is to catch all the water and the sump pump will collect the water then up and out of the basement.

      Yes it's collecting groundwater in the basement bringing it to the sump

    form a drain that's old school your doing there

    • @DIRT-BOSS
      @DIRT-BOSS  4 роки тому +1

      What do you mean form a drain? I think you're saying form a French drain in the concrete.. totally two different jobs this is sight work and you need a footing drain by code.. French drain around the perimeter between the wall and the concrete floor would be done by the person doing the concrete and that is not code it is preference. BUT footing drains are code!!!

      its the concrete form that you don't remove, it's plastic with drain holes on the outside, you use cross pipes to connect them into the sump pump.

    I wish contractors knew the difference between plumb and level and use the terms correctly. You sound like you’d be difficult to work for/with. I’m a retired millwright with 45 yrs experience and know plumb and ,evel.

      Yes I agree maybe I misspoke if that's what you're talking about plum is vertical & level is horizontal duh... Lol you just made me rewatch it I said make sure you level it so it's plum yes so the pit is plum straight up and down.. now do you feel better?...🤣🙄😋
