If you lose something like a shoe or hat, someone will hold it up in the air while moshing until you get it back. Every time I hear Slaughter to Prevail all I can think is... they must really love Slipknot because they sound so much like them just with the vocals turned to 11 (which is saying something) and way more Russian.
to simplify the technique to scream/growl whatever, you dont sing with your vocal cords. you use the stuff around it and the mouthshape to produce the tone and just add the vocal cords to give words a shape. that way it doesnt hurt the vocal cords and you dont blow out your voice, but it can require a lot of air for some stuff.
Yep. Kinda like when you pinch a balloon and the air sputters out, or when you blow raspberries with your lips. Largely a similar concept, but you’re using your false folds (located above your regular vocal folds) and all the other fleshy bits in your throat/mouth to hold the air back, so that it sputters through them all/vibrates them and then resonates in your throat/mouth to shape the sound. It’s not super hard or harsh or intense, it just takes a lot of practice for a long time.
that's only for false cord screams though... most vocalists use a combination of falsecord/fry techniques, usually without actually realising they are utilizing both... some go pure fry, some pure falsecord, or some merge it. will ramos uses all parts. alex terrible primarily uses falsecords, with some occasional voice/fry added into his falsecords for some screams

The part where you reference "mosh pit" that one is a wall of death. The "point"of it is simply that we metal heads feel this music the same way your fav genre makes you want to jump or move around if you saw your fav artist live. That's just how we naturally reasons to the music. When Alex says demolisher you can see he doesn't use the mic which he also does live if the venue isn't huge.
It's one of those things that you just have to go and try for yourself if you want to understand why we do it. You just gotta be in a room when a breakdown hits and you charge at the other line like it's a battle for middle earth or something. There's something special about it

To answer your question about moshing simply. Its about energy release. Letting everything in you thats pent up out in an environment with others who are doing the same. For the most part you see good moshing etiquette. No nigh elbows, no kicking, and if someone falls you pick them up.
About the Pits, from my perspektive how had much experience (~12 years), I would say it hurts at the beginning but ends in a very strange extase where you just "dance" like in every normal and you will also experience that this heavy pits are mostly a very safe space, because everybody is taking care about each other, rarely I feld down to the ground but mostly somebody picks you up before it happens, its damage the body but cure the soul
Mosh Pits: It’s an energy release, just like rap, hip hop, or even EDM & techno, you hear or feel a beat you like it makes you want to dance. Moshing is the same thing. It’s an energy release. It’s more aggressive, because obviously the music is more aggressive. Vocals, a great UA-cam channel to look at about vocals, I’ve seen everyone recommend the Charismatic Voice. She’s great. But another one is Kardavox Academy. He’s a vocal coach too, but where Charismatic voice comes from more of an opera/orchestral background, Kardavox academy is an actual vocal coach for metal music. He does reaction videos and does a break down on the vocal work in the videos. If you watch his videos for songs you’ve already done, don’t want you to spoil stuff for yourself, haha, it will probably get you a better grasp on the hows and whys of how the voice works in regards to this stuff. LASTLY, sorry for getting long winded, the vocalist for Slaughter to Prevail is Alex Terrible. He added his own vocals and lyrics to the song BFG Division from the Doom video game soundtrack, if you haven’t done it it. It’s incredible and adds a level of brutality that would have been wonderful to have in the game.

That's a quick road down, straight from Polyphia, to Lorna and then Slaughter, really enjoying the reactions, just discovered you. If you wanna dig a bit deeper, specially the lows and technical stuff, might aswell go a bit deeper with something like Archspire with "Golden Mouth of Ruin" or "Involuntary Doppelgaenger". Jumping to some highs would probably be fun aswell, might check out Cradle of Filth "Bathory Aria", specially the live Version from 2022, Cradle still my go to if someon wants to know what high screams can sound like. 5:47 The point of mosh pits and the wall of death (the charging at each other) is that metal music can get you so hyped up and so raw that the inner beast (as we are animals, just very highly evolved ones) needs to be let loose. It's the same kind of thing as when you listen to a rap song, you bob/nod your head to the background beat, just dialed up to 12 out of 10. In the same way that a beautiful string quartet playing a lament can move you to tears and feel deep down, core emotions, so too can metal. All humans have anger, sadness, joy, and happiness in them, and the really REALLY good bands, like StP, Lorna Shore, Nightwish (Floor growls in a few songs, so it counts!), and the like can play those emotions to perfection. Fast, hard blast beats, shredding guitars, angry, deep vocals... it touches on the anger part of us, and it's a cathartic release to mosh, band your head, throw up the horns, do a wall of death or circle pit. So, to answer your question in a shorter way: The point is to let it all out on the floor and leave the concert sore, bruised, maybe bleeding from a busted lip or nose, and laughing your ass off at how good you feel having let all of that emotion out :) EDIT: You touched on the exact reason we mosh at 7:39... the music charges us up and touches on the emotions, and if you didn't release it, you'd explode :D

The Heretic Prevails, Intensified Genocide or Of Fury are great tracks.Ben has one of the most controlled vocals with a huge range, alongside great musicianship. Also mosh pits let out pent up anger and love for the music or anything but it’s actually very respectful usually. From the outside in it looks crazy, but if someone in the pit falls, there are a handful of ppl picking them up. It’s just a hype time for everyone there. “The pit loves and respects the pit”
The purpose of the pit to me is simply the venting of frustration with every day life. The violence of it is cathartic, but as some have said, it is with a familial aspect. It's all mutual in the pit and there is respect. One person falls, 5 pick them up. Crowd surfers come towards the pit, they are redirected or carried across it. It's a very pure form of consensual violence. I leave a show fucking gleaming and happy as a rainbow. Lol

If it may be of interest, the Charismatic Voice recently put out a mini-documentary where she and Will Ramos visited a group of vocal scientists who put a scope down Will Ramos’s throat so that they could see exactly how he makes those sounds. It's called false cord screams so basically their vocal cords don't collide but it's the vibrations which make the sounds. That's how they don't destroy their voice, it's also depends on the shape of their mouth and tongue which can make the different screams such as mids, lows and highs. If you watch Will Ramos's vocal one take covers he doesn't strain his neck as well.

If you haven't yet, I think you should really listen to some (early) Slipknot. They have so clearly influenced this band (and many more), and if crazy masks, crowd control and super talented music gets you excited, Slipknot it is. For example: London live videos from 2002! The songs "Disasterpiece" , "Heretic Anthem" and "People=Shit" are just amazing.

you seem to like drums alot so im gonna suggest you look into archspires songs involuntary doppleganger and bleed the future. you can probably find playthroughs for them too. i think they do 350bpm on involuntary doppleganger and 400 on bleed the future (most songs in other genres are only 180 ish)

From a vocalist’s prospective of both clean and screaming it’s just as technical as Clean singing if not some argue more but it’s complicated topic because the common knowledge is screaming is just screaming that’s not the case take Corey Taylor from slipknot he would just scream and although it sounded insanely good from 1999 to 2002 it was horrible for his voice and vocal chords it destroyed his voice because of improper technique but it something that’s amazing to learn and do it’s fun af, also mosh pits are just a fun way to exert energy/ anger everyone’s different as to why they go in lol.

You asked what the point of mosh-pits are.... Metal is about energy release, that's it. Mosh pits are friendly ( mostly ) controlled aggression. The idea is not to deliberately hurt anyone. If you fall there will be 4 or 5 pairs of hands helping you to your feet instantly. You're supposed to walk away from it tired and sore like you just played a really good game of football with your friends.
A dangerous moshpit ? Check out Knocked Loose - Billy No Mates/Counting Worms. It's that kind of 'everyone was hurt in the making of this video' video. Plus hardcore has quite a lot in common with rap, lyrics are almost always very important, it's music that talks about real shit. But Yeah, Knocked Loose. Check it.

Awesome reaction, STP is always super hype! I also prefer the growls and gutturals in deathcore, we share a preference🤘. Getting your voice to be able to do stuff like this is definitely possible, just takes alot of work and training.

That's a quick road down, straight from Polyphia, to Lorna and then Slaughter, really enjoying the reactions, just discovered you. If you wanna dig a bit deeper, specially the lows and technical stuff, might aswell go a bit deeper with something like Archspire with "Golden Mouth of Ruin" or "Involuntary Doppelgaenger". Jumping to some highs would probably be fun aswell, might check out Cradle of Filth "Bathory Aria", specially the live Version from 2022, Cradle still my go to if someon wants to know what high screams can sound like. 5:47 The point of mosh pits and the wall of death (the charging at each other) is that metal music can get you so hyped up and so raw that the inner beast (as we are animals, just very highly evolved ones) needs to be let loose. It's the same kind of thing as when you listen to a rap song, you bob/nod your head to the background beat, just dialed up to 12 out of 10. In the same way that a beautiful string quartet playing a lament can move you to tears and feel deep down, core emotions, so too can metal. All humans have anger, sadness, joy, and happiness in them, and the really REALLY good bands, like StP, Lorna Shore, Nightwish (Floor growls in a few songs, so it counts!), and the like can play those emotions to perfection. Fast, hard blast beats, shredding guitars, angry, deep vocals... it touches on the anger part of us, and it's a cathartic release to mosh, band your head, throw up the horns, do a wall of death or circle pit.
So, to answer your question in a shorter way: The point is to let it all out on the floor and leave the concert sore, bruised, maybe bleeding from a busted lip or nose, and laughing your ass off at how good you feel having let all of that emotion out :) EDIT: You touched on the exact reason we mosh at 7:39... the music charges us up and touches on the emotions, and if you didn't release it, you'd explode :D

The Heretic Prevails, Intensified Genocide or Of Fury are great tracks.Ben has one of the most controlled vocals with a huge range, alongside great musicianship. Mosh pits are a lot less dangerous than they look. There were always unspoken rules, to pick up and protect anyone who fell, and at this point you'll mostly find people with years of experience in there.
You should check out the charismatic voice. She has videos were she explains how to do harsh vocals. She even got Will Ramos to agree to have a camera shoved down his throat.

Also mosh pits let out pent up anger and love for the music or anything but it’s actually very respectful usually. From the outside in it looks crazy, but if someone in the pit falls, there are a handful of ppl picking them up. It’s just a hype time for everyone there. “The pit loves and respects the pit”

The purpose of the pit to me is simply the venting of frustration with every day life. The violence of it is cathartic, but as some have said, it is with a familial aspect. It's all mutual in the pit and there is respect. One person falls, 5 pick them up. Crowd surfers come towards the pit, they are redirected or carried across it. It's a very pure form of consensual violence. I leave a show fucking gleaming and happy as a rainbow. Lol

As you may already know, sound-any type of sound-is created when air molecules are vibrated. And with humans, most of the time when we’re make sounds, we use our voice box. But that’s not the only human organ that can make sounds. And when it comes to extreme metal vocals, such as growls and screams, much of those are typically produced by using muscles and tissues other than the voice box-so that’s how metal vocalists can make those sounds without destroying their voice.
If it may be of interest, the Charismatic Voice recently put out a mini-documentary where she and Will Ramos visited a group of vocal scientists who put a scope down Will Ramos’s throat so that they could see exactly how he makes those sounds. Of the two tracks, “Cursed to Die” has a more uplifting sound to it than “Sun Eater’ (or at least by Lorna Short standards), while “Sun Eater” is the more brutal of the two. (And I love them both-I only mention the styles of each just in case you might be more in the mood for one or the other.)
You need to check out some Gaerea. Very different style of metal but very emotive. The song Salve is a good example of their sound.

It's called false cord screams so basically their vocal cords don't collide but it's the vibrations which make the sounds. That's how they don't destroy their voice, it's also depends on the shape of their mouth and tongue which can make the different screams such as mids, lows and highs. If you watch Will Ramos's vocal one take covers he doesn't strain his neck as well.

If you haven't yet, I think you should really listen to some (early) Slipknot. They have so clearly influenced this band (and many more), and if crazy masks, crowd control and super talented music gets you excited, Slipknot it is.
For example: London live videos from 2002! The songs "Disasterpiece" , "Heretic Anthem" and "People=Shit" are just amazing.

you seem to like drums alot so im gonna suggest you look into archspires songs involuntary doppleganger and bleed the future. you can probably find playthroughs for them too. i think they do 350bpm on involuntary doppleganger and 400 on bleed the future (most songs in other genres are only 180 ish)

From a vocalist’s prospective of both clean and screaming it’s just as technical as Clean singing if not some argue more but it’s complicated topic because the common knowledge is screaming is just screaming that’s not the case take Corey Taylor from slipknot he would just scream and although it sounded insanely good from 1999 to 2002 it was horrible for his voice and vocal chords it destroyed his voice because of improper technique but it something that’s amazing to learn and do it’s fun af, also mosh pits are just a fun way to exert energy/ anger everyone’s different as to why they go in lol.

Mosh pits are friendly ( mostly ) controlled aggression. The idea is not to deliberately hurt anyone. If you fall there will be 4 or 5 pairs of hands helping you to your feet instantly.
