Thank you for being SO DETAILED in the steps taken to make your vanity, down to the products etc. I'm in shock at how awesome that came together. ❤
Love how heavy it looks and how light it is
Wow that looks so goood, and looks easier and achievable than I expected! I’d love to see how you made and attached the box-gutter, even a more detailed sketch would be amazing, if you have the time! Good job, and thanks for sharing!👏🏼😃⚜️
I tried googling for the proper name of this type of design, and as best as I can tell it's called a "ramp sink". Sometimes they're called "infinity sinks", but the problem is there are also other types of "infinity sinks" that don't have a ramp, but instead they're flat and have an overflow surrounding the entire sink, or sometimes they only *look* flat but there's an almost imperceptible gradient down to the backsplash, and a hidden overflow.
Anyway, I'd love to try this. I'm currently learning about tadelakt plastering, so I'd like to try incorporating this design with that plastering technique.
Super job and very informative. You have inspired me to tackle a kitchen sink and counter top. Thanks!
Awesome video mate, thanks for being so generous with your knowledge!
Happy to help! 🤙
This was beautifully filmed and edited. Much more than just a how-to.
Thanks Lena! :)
Well done, looks fantastic! Would love my husband to give this a go for our kitchen bench tops when we do them.
Thanks Stacie! Keep in mind you'd want to treat this stuff like real marble, so not hot pans etc if you're using it in a kitchen. :)
How do you close the trap for the sink to hold water? Assuming a sink that holds water was a requirement.
Muy chulo Bro!🤟
SICK! I’m gonna do this!!!
That came up minty. Nice work
Yeah think it turned out pretty decent! Cheers 🤙
You know what ?
I feel jealous 😂 I want the same sink !!!
Very good job congratulations 👏🥇
Haha thank you! 😁
I LOVE THIS! but... If this is a bathroom sink, wouldn't the box gutter collect so much shaving cream, soap, hair, toothpaste, etc? And get smelly and full of bacteria? How can you get in there and clean?
just consider it part of the plumbing - you don't get into the trap and the u-bend to clean out hair and toothpaste, so don't worry about the gutter
Very nice would like to see how you attached it to wall and how you attached the box gutter collection system
Literally using this to make our own! You didn't mention which sealers you used. I'm getting a bit lost and confused with all the different brands. Which ones did you use ?
Great video, cleaning the gutter may be an issue, how are you finding the cleaning of your design. Oh and what type/brand waterproofing did you use?
Hey Steve, sorry for the late reply mate. You can get a bottle cleaner down there to give it a clean. Next time I'd probably make the catchment area as small as possible to reduce water sitting but so far it been pretty good. Sealers are from the Venetian plaster gallery in Sydney.
"If it works here, why wouldn't it work there" has to be the DIY eternal mantra hahaha
Haha what's the worst that could happen right!?
This is awesome thanks so much for the effort in showing the whole process - one question - how do you catch things like jewellery or like cotton tips from the trap?
You're welcome. Nothing major has dropped in yet, however it is easy enough to undo the trap and get access
@@viking.designs nice
so where is this microcement video?
Awesome video, i want to do the kitchen counter top and if succeed at that. I might do the bathroom walls. How is it holding up so far and how do you maintain the microcement surfaces?
The majority of it is holding up very well. However the bathroom floor is getting some scratches and it does show dirt quite easily which can be annoying when you have 2 young boys 😆
The bathroom walls are great, basically no maintenance. If I were going again, I'd tile the floor, microcement the walls. 👌
@viking.designs Thank you for your reply. I was already thinking of tiling the floor, but now i know for sure. Your video's are from high quality and a pleasure to watch
Yeah you're definitely on the right track imo. Good luck with it and thank you! 👍
Nice job man, what design software you use?
Thanks! I use sketchup. 👌
Hey dude, Just about to start renovating my gaff after i got flooded by my upstairs neighbour, fellow chippy but just wondering what solvent based sealer you used at the end? Was it a 2 pack polyurethane?
Many thanks and great job mate, looks ace!
Cheers Matt. It wasn’t a 2 pack poly. I’m actually not sure of the brand. I got it from the same place I purchased the microcement from. Maybe ask your supplier what they recommend?
Ah sweet you’re a legend, thanks for the speedy reply, I didn’t know if you’d randomly used one you had in the typical chippys hoard of materials, I’ll give my supplier a buzz in the morning.
Take care bud
Hey mate a great video! Any issues with the sink after one year ?
Hey! Thanks. I’d probably recommend using a small strip drain over the box I used for drainage. Something with a pop out grate that is easier to clean from above.
Would microcement be suitable for a kitchen countertop?
It can be used. You would need to treat it with care though, for example no hot pans etc.
What kind of micro cement product did you use ?
It’s called pastellone by stucco Italia I
What sealer and solvent did you use for the microcement? Can i use any type?
It was a product that came from the supplier that sold us the microcement.
Who are you purchasing your microcement from? They should have a product they recommend.
I live in Malaysia and it is pretty limited here, the one that i can find only is microcement lotos plaster skim. It say how to prepare the micro but in area high humidity they just recommend to apply additional protective coating, nothing specific. Can i use a cement sealer on microcement?
How did you install it? So where does the water flow to?
It's like a normal sink, plumbed to the waste, screwed to the timber vanity
Not sure if you mention but where do you get micro cement? Im in wollongong area u to?
Hey mate. I got it from the Venetian plaster gallery in Sydney.
What make was the trowel mate
Can't see a brand name. Look up Venetian plaster trowels or call a local supplier? They should be able to help you out 👌
What is the micro-cement product?
It's called pastellone by stucco Italiano
Who's building one of these?
I so want a client to ask for microcement in their bathroom, but it’s just not popular enough and it’s hard to push a client to do something just cause I want to experiment. But I’ll follow your steps if I do. Could you make a pdf of the specs for the sink and attach it in the notes?
I am! Would be great to hear how yours is fairing after some use? Really great video!
@@antoniablunt5866 Hey Antonia! Thank you. It's holding up really well. Still looks great. Think I may re-seal the water plane again in the next few months. If I were to build another one, I'd just be sure to do 3 - 4 really good coats of sealer where the water hits the sink.
@@FraserandCoDesigns I often try to push clients in a direction that I would like to try out haha. If I find some time, I'll put the specs in a pdf and I'll let you know.
@@viking.designs Thanks so much, really good to know!
Seems like a lot of steps when you could have just made the inverse mold out of mdf or foam and used GFRC cement to the mold. No need for edging, etc
That music is what I imagine psychopaths must hear in their head 24/7.
But the actual sink is amazing! 🤩
😂 I made the music.
It’s not 24/7, but it’s not far off haha
@@viking.designs 😄
Bet this would crash and burn if someone decided to sit on top of it😅
😆 no adult times on the vanity!
Dumb logic. Sorry bud, your sink will see water daily. Roof gutters don't, unless you're in the Amazon jungle with daily rainfall. Ugh.
