      Late 8th gen and 9th gen civics are solid. I would consider them to be the best in terms of nothing really goes wrong with them.

    I work in a Honda engine plant and we use the same exact oil stones when repairs are needed or surface roughness is out of specifications. We also use the oil stones for quality checks to take burrs off of the head cover surface and GA surfaces to get a more accurate height measurement. Cylinder heads and blocks are manufactured within 15 microns in some instances such as injector holes. I’m not sure about the 1.5t head gasket problems. It must be a design issue or gasket issue. I also think all manufacturers are having more engine problems because of the pressure to comply with emissions regulations. And I think some engineering and design changes that are unproven are sent to market prematurely in the name of meeting those emissions requirements

      We get quite a few 1.5t headgaskets. There is a CRV in the shop waiting. I got another accord 1.5t headgaskets to do and another tech is doing one on a civic. I feel like the headgaskets they are using seems kinda thin compared to the previous Honda engines. It's only 2 layers. Maybe if they revise the headgaskets

    Ugh, what a mess at only ~40k miles. Iirc, the Ford Edge has a similar issue with narrow groove between cylinders also resulting in premature blown HGs. And if the HG job not enough, got to deal with the lift. Been a Honda buyer for years but now thinking Toyota maybe next time. Customer lucky to have you doing this job. 👏

    Paint pens are good... if you don't have nail polish handy. The paint is oil based. Very durable.

    • @theoffroadingmechanic
      @theoffroadingmechanic  4 дні тому +2

      I suggested one of those creepers for working over the engine bay but nothing from management cuz we are starting to do quite a few injectors on these.

      @@theoffroadingmechanic I looked up what an engine creeper was and they're not that expensive. Hopefully management changes their mind...

    I wonder if the same thing that caused a lot of Prius head gasket issues is also causing this issue. City driving turning the ICE on/off cause the engine to go through a lot of heating and cooling cycles. Combined with cheap material nowadays with every manufacture.

    • @Thankyou_3
      @Thankyou_3 4 дні тому +1

      Very good point, the Prius had the same issues but the Camry didn’t.

    • @theoffroadingmechanic
      @theoffroadingmechanic  4 дні тому

      Not sure if that has anything to do with it here. But I know it's doing the same as the 1.5T when looking at the side where that grove that Chanel's coolant in between the cylinder is where it leaks in when you stick a camera in. I'm curious if this will happen if they improve on the headgaskets itself it's only 2 layers

    From what I could see, it appeared that the top of the engine mount had a significant vertical crack (already). Was that mount replaced?

      You mean that narrow part on the rubber? That thing is still solid I believe it's silicones filled.

    quick question, i believe when u disconnect 12volt battery, hybrid battery will also be disconnected is that right, i know service plug is aditional precaution, that is hhow it works in Toyota, just want to confirm..

    • @theoffroadingmechanic
      @theoffroadingmechanic  4 дні тому

      Yea I usually do the 12v first so the relays in the high voltage battery is disabled then disconnect the service plug. Grab a coffee to wait for the capacitors to discharge.
