I started working on a portrait in oil pastels as well, but I needed a long time to find a paper that I liked. How is the drawing experience different? Looking at some oil pastels drawings, it seems to me like drawing hair is easier in oil pastels. What are your experiences?
Very nice! I have a 12 set which I have put up to try in winter. They were joyfully jumping all over my hand in summer … at least I thought they were. Probably just super soft and they wanted me to use my hands on them. 😂 It’s winter & your well timed video reminded me that it’s time to get them out for a go. Thank you.
Thank you for your kind comment! I'm curious if you will feel a difference now in winter. I heard that their consistency changes quite a bit between summer and winter. I haven't gotten around to trying mine again since it cooled down here.
@ They are smooth yet soft now. Used them yesterday without any issues. They’re already quite soft by default. Definitely “firmer” in hand now than what I previously experienced. Hottest summer on record here , over 100 deg F + humidity and I took them out with me in my urban sketching kit. (The warmer the softer I suspect.) That was a no-no.
I have drawn four different portraits using oil pastels. These portraits in oil pastels are completely different from my pencil work.
