Thanks for this video! I'm French, have been living and working in Denmark for over a year, first son was born in Norway, and now expecting second child soon. I just wanted to specify that actually the paid parental leave in Denmark is really bad if your employer does not top-up the maternity unemployment benefits, which sadly is my case. Employers do not legally have to pay you your full salary, but most do because they are unionised and have an agreement with union and employee. My employer doesn't have this. So despite having leave for a long period of time, I will only get governmental pay, which means a 50% pay cut in my salary. It's really hard to live in Denmark with such low salary all of sudden!
Congratulations on your baby girl! I had mine three months ago and oh I have cursed that yellow envelope! I forgot it at two appointments, and actually did walk home from one appointment in the rain - it was never ruined but it isn't pretty 😅

@@Finnec123 It is an envelope, in which there is a paper with every information about bloodpresure, blood%, estimated weight of the baby - and comments from the doctor and midwife. The envelope follows you from appointment to appointment until the day the baby is born. c"; )

This is not explained [well it is below actually], but here's wikipedia's explanation:
"An epidural is a procedure that injects a local anaesthetic in to the space around the spinal nerves in your lower back. This anaesthetic usually blocks the pain from labour contractions and during the birth very effectively. With an epidural you can usually move and can push your baby out when you need to."

Actually paternity leave rules were recently changed to be less generous, because the EU demanded it for whatever reason. It went from 14 weeks for the mother, 2 weeks for the father, 26 weeks shared - to 11 weeks for the mother, 11 weeks for the father, 32 weeks shared. So if a family wanted the mother to have as much leave as possible, she could have 46 weeks before, but only 37 weeks now.

I think you unfortunately got experience the result of the rather alarming lack of midwives in Danish hospitals. I would venture that the gum chewing midwife is probably a stress control thing for her.
In Denmark (I had to Google this) the doctors and midwives have the attitude towards epidurals because, as with all medicines there is a whole host of side effects. One of the most important as I read it, is that it can prolong the birth and make it a more difficult birth. I will as a man never understand the pain of birth, but I think Danish doctors and midwives has found that those hours of intense pain is the better way. As nature intended it - if you will. And as you said the experience of bringing a new little human into this world, makes it all worth it.
I am so happy to hear that the mental health of the mother is being monitored. Because birth depressions are unfortunately a much to common thing both up to and especially after the birth of child. A simple but effective thing we all can do, is to ask a new mom, how she is feeling about it all. And not just focus on the baby. Although they are ridiculously cute ;-)

I remember that - long ago - my brother and I planned how we would handle it when his wife had to go pop out her 4th baby. He gave me his spare keys to
their apartment and I gave him my spare keys to my car.
A couple days later - at around 03 AM - he called. I jumped in my clothes and ran over to his place. He used my car (Citroën 2CV) to drive his wife to the hospital while I kept their 3 children asleep. Sort of. Changing the diaper of the youngest one would never have happened without the help of big sister. 🚼 She knew exactly what her mother used to do. Step by step.
A few hours later while I was telling them once again that everything was ok and we could all laugh and smile (I hoped) - in the middle of breakfast - my sister in law and my brother came home with big smiles on their faces and a new baby called Levi (though we're not Jews.)
I never really enjoyed baby-sitting (kids have too much energy). Having three nephews and a niece (three boys and a big sister) was very much ok though. I had to read a bed-time book exactly as their father did (if I didn't do it right I was immediately corrected; believe me!), "Lord of the Rings".
The boys fought over what to wear the next day. I didn't care. They weren't violent and they were boys, so I thought they were normal. But then their older sister stepped in and said "STOP IT!" The boys hang their heads and crawled into their beds. I kept my mouth shut but thought 'Come on, they're boys!" 🙂 Well ok. 🤷🏻♂️
I lived near my bro and wife for a handful of years and introduced their kids to computers and the primitive video games of that era. Baby-sitting was hard. And that reminds me of how hard it is to be a parent. I imagine.
Young Levi and his three older siblings (and their partners) now have all gone through uni, have their own kids and are doing great. Yess! Amen! Praise Jesus! 😉 (I'm a USA nerd.)
Well - as the only one - Levi doesn't have a steady partner yet (as far as I know). He's living in France and doing I don't quite know what.
Even if my brother, sister and I back then went to school with patched pants, my mother always said "Don't worry, they can't see it from an airplane!" I translated that to "that's what we can afford, now get going!". During my first 10 years we were pretty much cash-strapped. Luckily the late sixties and seventies were one ascending curve financially for all of us. The welfare state was created.
That's how I remember it.

Epidural is not common in Denmark , you can ask for it but i know some moms that asked for it but the anesthesiologist showed up long after and baby was already born 😅

I never paint so i wouldn’t really know🎨🤔 life in Denmark is expensive compared to most countries in the world i would say, but not compared to Norway 😂🤪
In DK, they provide human rights for human beings from conception through the rest of their days. In the past Week (that is 7 days) we have had no less than 20 of our kids shot down in America by Guns. For no reason except racial hatred and violent Nazi extremism. Our Congress will do nothing about. Last night, I looked at the summer school night school enrollment of the largest university in Philadelphia for Elementary Danish. The classes don’t start yet for another four weeks, and German French and Russian have plenty of open seats. Dansk 1 is already on a waitlist for enrollment. I wonder why. 🇩🇰
If a mother had c section with her first child do they wait vaginal birth for the second baby or directly c section in Denmark?
Im sorry i dont know as i have not had a c section myself but from a few mothers i know they had c section for the second child also but i dont know if it’s because they needed it or to be safe 🤷🏼♀️
Omg. This is my concern as well as I am currently pregnant. Wondering if I should give birth in Denmark or in Philippines where I had my first child.

It’s a local anesthesia, you get a liquid injected with a needle 💉 between your vertebrae and then it numbs your body from the belly button all the way down , so you don’t feel contractions or anything when pushing the baby out. The feeling in your legs comes back after a couple of hours more or less🙂

Yes … i believe you need something like 100h of work only and you can get maternity leave already 🙂
