I think there was an error to a certain extent in the way that the gospel was presented in that people were made to believe that when you come to Christ you'll then start getting material success. The Bible is about God's salvation project and the restoration of mankind in Him. There are many unbelievers who are successful. Being successful is about one engaging the skills, work and principles that make it possible for one to succeed in the market place and that has nothing to do with being a believer. That's just how God designed life. We don't come to God for things but we come to Him for relationship and we work in order for us to be successful
Asking God for help in times of need - as He invited us to do - is not "coming to God for material success". He said we must ask Him for things. When people give God the credit for their material success, you guys never denounce them for it. You applaud and give God the glory. You never tell them to thank themselves because the success came from their own skill and hard work. So why can't we express disappointment as well when God doesn't help us out like He promised He will do?
It's all about faith, Paul said one person has faith to eat vegetables and others have faith to eat meat and vegetables, and he also says if you are content with what you have you are rich but most of all is the peace that comes with the Holy spirit

A born again child of God has an opportunity to align him/herself with God's purpose and begin to learn His ways and therefore escape these ugly realities. Paul says its impossible for one to say Jesus is Lord unless it is revealed to him by the Holy spirit. That means a lot of people may claim to be Christians, yet not have the revelation of Him. John says, " They left for they were not of us. For had they been of us surely they would have remained with us. So they left that it would be made manifest that they were not of us." I think when anyone says they left Christianity because of any reason, we should understand that they never really had the revelation in the first place, even if they were pastors.

As Christians across Africa, I think it's high time for us to realise that the prosperity gospel is doing us no good. I think Vuyo's concerns are birthed from the rampant prosperity theology, which of course is bankrupt and an insult to the finished work of Christ. What's concerning is that he attributes the bankruptcy of the prosperity gospel to the character of God and for this reason, I think he has rejected Christianity for what it's not.
