    Thanks for the comprehensive video. While I’ve never taken the fenders off to change a belt on an MTD product, it was helpful to see how it’s done and what it looks like underneath. In my experience, it’s better to use an OEM belt on the transmission. The MTD belts are made differently and an aftermarket belt just won’t last as long. While the aftermarket belts may be nominally the same size, the MTD belt may be 1/4 to 1/2” different and have a different pitch to the V. MTD belts cost more, but you want to go as many years as possible in between changes.

    Hello need your advice n expertise I got a troybilt bronco 19 hp 2018 I have replaced the transmission drive pulley, n drive belt but if I place it in reverse it doesn't move
    But my new belt is loose even when I press on the drive pedal how can I adjust the tension thanks

    • @PullerbearEd
      @PullerbearEd  10 місяців тому

      There should be a idler arm and spring around the rear belt. Also make sure the variable speed pully is moving freely

  • @Rysdad1
    @Rysdad1 Місяць тому

    I changed the lower transmission belt and now it rides like 1/4 speed on flat ground, as soon as it starts cutting or going up hill it slowly starts going about 1/8 speed until it finally stops moving. It goes it little bursts at full speed down hill or with no grass. Idk what's causing it other than bc the belt is 5/8ths instead of the .656 bs that troy bilt brand Sells its causing an issue. It's the only thing I changed and I can't figure out why it's doing this

    • @PullerbearEd
      @PullerbearEd  Місяць тому

      @@Rysdad1 the difference in belts can cause that also check to make sure the variable speed pulle is moving freely sometimes they get stuck.

    I had to replace the variable drive belt and pulley on mine because the belt i got was to tight this was a while back before the season started the same way you made the video on here taking the frame off the back made it easier to get the belt off there and i think i ended up putting the spring in the same spot you did also i used old trimmer line to pull the spring on , good video installing the belts 👍 🔧

    • @PullerbearEd
      @PullerbearEd  Рік тому

      I have used trimmer string too, it works well because it's thin and strong.

    Ed, you did a great job with this video, thank you.
    I recently changed the drive belt in my Troy bilt pony (2011), the belt is very tense now, not sure if that’s the way it’s supposed to be, I don't know if that will be the cause of my problem, now I can only control the speed with the throttle lever, even when I put it in rabbit mode the motor goes at high rpm, but the ground speed is about half the normal speed; the (yellow on mine) speed control lever doesn’t work, it goes up and down without locking the notches, offers no resistance and does nothing. (however, the engaging of the parking brake action works fine). I opened up the mower and saw the yellow speed control lever attached to a connecting rod which is attached down there to the cupped metal piece in the correct position as the new Troy Bilt Pony I saw yesterday at Home Depot, but besides allowing to be put in in park position, I don’t see it attached to anything else, is it right? How does it regulate the speed if it is not connected to anything else? Thank you in advance.

    • @PullerbearEd
      @PullerbearEd  Рік тому

      It's should be connected to and idler to pull tension on the belt

      I use and impact but if you don't have one you can lock a pair of vice grip around the center shaft to hold it then use a ratchet and socket
