I had a Great Uncle that passed in 2019 at the age of 96. He was born in Luray S.C. and when he would get a leave of absence while in the Navy, all the Black Servicemen would have to get off the train just before it arrived in Charleston and walk home. He moved to Philly in 1953. I spent a lot of time with and around him as I grew up. He loved and played a lot of Louis Armstrong's music, but this was his favorite. He often spoke of his life in the South during segregation, but he would always laugh at the mistreatment. He was a sharp dressed gentlemen and had a full life smile. When I was 46 he said, "Robbie, make sure they play When It's Seepy Time Down South at my new beginning". I had this piece played at his Homegoing; he would have laughed. O'Yea.
Thanks for sharing. ❤️
Thank you for this, God rest your Grand Uncle
So sorry sir for your loss
I'm in New Orleans now playing it to my dad on his 92nd birthday..hot..
@@markkleindorf9185 Blessing to your Dad Brother. It's a beautiful piece and special to a lot of people.
My dad passed away in January. He loved Trad Jazz, Louis Armstrong was his favourite. We played 'We have all time time in the World' at his funeral. I miss him so much . I grew up listening to Louis, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and love this Genre also.
I said once you could say again we will never see a man like Louis Armstrong ever again.
Beautiful song thanks louis
His music moves my heart, jazzes my soul and captivates my mind. Playing his music during my times of suffering, it pulls me back to the reality of hope, strength and faith. Thank you Louis Armstrong, your music is a like a life jacket!!!!!
This is the good stuff. Real music.
Armstrong would be appalled by the fact that you just implied the existence of "fake" music.
@@ericmarmal9849 doubt it. Only means your musical standards are in the mud.
Now the pale moon's shining, on the fields below
Dark folks crooning songs soft and low
You needn't tell me, boy, because I know
When It's sleepy time down south
The soft winds blowing through the pinewood trees
Folks down there live a life of ease
When old mammy falls on her knees
When It's sleepy time down south.
Oh, steamboats up the river coming, going
Splashing the night away
hear those banjos ringing, dark folks are singing
And they dance 'til the break of day
Dear old southland with his dreamy song
Take me back where I belong
Right in my mammy's arms
When it's sleepy time down south
I think that's "bye" and not "boy".
@@darkshadow5310 its boy

@@darkshadow5310 Another "Let's go Brandon?" Funny. It's boy.
The way Louis plays the trumpet, absolutely timeless and unique.
I have always loved Louis music - a true genius - able to sing and play songs that would make feel like family. A truly legendary man - legend in his own lifetime.

@@richardgillette5759 Jim Beam or Makers Mark?
@@eb1684 Makers Mark cask strength. Jim Beam is pig swill
@@richardgillette5759 What is cask strength?
@@eb1684 cask strenth means it comes straight from the barrel without being watered down to 40 something percent alcohol. It's usually close to 60 percent alcohol so it's stronger and has more flavor.
One of my favorites…❤❤
Mr. Louis Armstrong one of the greatest human beings on the planet. But we are that smiling face it was thinking I would say about his people he was thinking about a kid from New Orleans becoming successful was reform school and the rise and rise above it became we is one of the most respected musicians of all time pops I've been playing music and some seven years old don't believe that you cannot be successful you could be anything you want want it enough I don't care what you people that find excuses for not being achieved this on call losers so every time I see Louis Armstrong to me I respect him with my own father and I missing him very much
Thank you thank you and thank you I can't say anything else thank you for everything Satchmo!👏❤
A PBS special said this was his song. There is another version, with no words, but he did sing in the version PBS aired.
It’s actually impossible to be unhappy when you hear Satchmo
Interestingly enough, because my late great-grandfather’s favorite song was “What A Wonderful World,” every time it would come on as a kid I’d expect someone to start crying because the grief was fresh. So that’s what I associate with his voice, but it’s all in a gorgeous sort of way. He embodies a special time and place for many people.
Wow... this is beautiful..
Very different than Louis Prima’s cover of it. Two Louis’s from New Orleans, born the same decade, both phenomenal trumpeters beyond words I can express. Yet two very different takes. The original Louis Armstrong is somber and sounds home sick even. Louis Prima on the other hand as irrepressible as ever plays a celebration to his home with his medley of BassinstreetBlues/SleepyTimeDownSouth.
it's all there if you're really listenin'
What is this a quote from?
The great Satchmo! Love it.

What'd he say?
this is so fire bro
Pale moon shining on the fields below

Needn't tell me so because I know
It's sleepy time down south
Soft winds blowing through the pinewood trees
Folks down there like a life of ease
When old mammy falls upon her knees
It's sleepy time down south
Steamboats on the river a coming or a going
Splashing the night away
Hear those banjos ringing, the people are singing
They dance til the break of day, hey
[2x:]
Dear old southland with his dreamy songs
Takes me back there where I belong
How I'd love to be in my mammy's arms
When it's sleepy time way down south
Sleepy time down south
Get well Drew Bress
Satchmo is GOD...
Algum brasileiro??
Who controls the internet? Damn them. I couldn't think of the title of his theme song, which this is, so I googled Louis's theme song. It gave several songs, but not this one. He was not ashamed of the lyrics, but the PC creeps are, and they revise history, present and future. Execrable. How I despise presentists.
I YEARN for a sleepytime, north south east or west....maybe on a hot summer afternoon this would be swell to doze off to, up here in snow country in the summer.
Sleepy time down in the south most likely means a darker meaning you know?
