  • Finally getting my wood cook stove hooked up in my garage. Bad weather was coming in so I rushed this whole job to get the stove ready for some extra heat if need be. I did not film the outside pipe because it was dark and raining that day.

    Beautiful stove. Glad you're keeping history alive. Your Great Grandmother would be proud of you. Thanks for the video.

    Good job, awesome work. And there is nothing like the sound of fire. You need to install that damper. And that'll hold the heat in your stove. And that should be enough to heat 300 square feet.

    I'm so glad to find your channel, also glad to see you kept this stove in the family! I think you'll find it does keep a rather large area warmer than what it looks it would... My family comes from the Border of Canada & NYS, and they had a fireplace and a Wood Cook stove. You could roast meat and bake bread in the fireplace, but most of the real heat went up the chimney. The wood cook stove was the main heat for that side of the house. The living room fireplace heated the other side of the house, and in the floor upstairs were iron grates that let heat upstairs! We had feather beds and I remember the big black iron bed warmer that my grandmother put in the bed to warm it up.... Good times! Cold night's!

    great video. nice footage of the install start to finish. I love old cookstoves. My grandmother used one still by 1960s. When she passed, my uncles replaced it with a gas/propane stove. its nice you were able to keep it in the family.

    I use all the deadfall branches in my woodstove. From the little twigs all the way up.

    I had no idea that installing that stove was that difficult. Great job That stove will take care of you for many years. When I was little I actually got to put wood in a stove like that one you have at my Grand Mother's kitchen. God bless.

    Good for man! Wood heat is the best for back heat, heat security and entertainment. My grandparents had one of these beauties too. My advice is install 1" foam insulation in your walls, ceiling and floor then your wood heater will keep you warmer longer. Stay safe and warm everyone:)

      The garage is insulated the same as the house. We just never had a heat source out there. I keep it cool in the summer with a small window unit.

      1 inch of foam insulation has an R value of about 5-6 while 6 inches of glass fiber insulation has an R value of about 20. He did say he had 6" studs in the garage and house walls.

    The ventilation holes inthe pipe are there for a reason, to keep the pipe from over heating . I almost burned my house down from doing what you just did.

      This wood cook stove does not put out the heat like other stoves. When I get my other stove put it I'm going to do something different.

    the water tank on side is hydrate the air in room..wood stoves produce a very dry heat and will dry out a room real fast..warping panels and other wood products..making for a very combustible environment..or ar least in the old days that is wat granpa told me..makes sence

    I just love the stove and how it was in your family ...But I do believe you put your stove pipes together very WRONG you should have all the crimped ends of your stove pipes going upward so that when the smoke goes thru it is already inside the next pipe, the way you have it the smoke going up can leak up the crimped flutes and out into your room and can CARBON MONXIDE

    • @joshuamoore1322
      @joshuamoore1322 Рік тому

      If you put the crimped end up creosote will down the outside of the pipe. Smoke will not come through the joint because it draws air in.

    um a damper will keep the cold out?

    • @doodlepinstriping
      @doodlepinstriping  Рік тому

      The pipe was way to short. The cold air was just blowing down the pipe. Put 2 more sections on and it was drawing good.

    Did you switch the wall the pipe was installed on?

      It looks different cause I'm using my front camera on my phone. The front camera is a mirror image so its backwards.

    You are dangerous as is that wood cook stove install. The parts that you are missing......part one hooks on the back of the stove and curves upward. Part 2 should have a 7 inch oval flange on a plate that fits on top of part 1. You then use a 7 inch oval to round pipe that is no longer made then you use an adapter to change the size from 7 inch round to 6 inch round or 8 inch round depending on which you choose. I chose to use 8 inch round pipe and I am glad I did because my stove draws well. The parts that you are missing are made of cast iron and made to take the heat at the back of the firebox. What you made will burn out quickly. Check out some wood cook stoves that are complete and if you can not find the part you need you can weld them up using 1/4 inch steel plate.

    I like family heirlooms too but you didn't put the stove pipe together correctly. You have to work from the stove upward so the next piece of pipe goes over the last one to eliminate the chance of CO from leaking into the house. You did it backwards. It they fit tight enough it probably won't matter but....

    • @rodgerholland2803
      @rodgerholland2803 Рік тому

      crimps go . to allow the creosote to flow back to the stove.

    you seem like a nice guy but I'm not even sure where to start on all the dangerous and improper things that you've done to install that cook stove. you used wall pass throughs that weren't designed for the pipe. you blocked the air ventilation that is designed to keep the pipe cool.
    The list could go on and on. If you're reading this do not follow anything in this video for installation.
    You seem like a nice guy and have probably have a nice family don't make it your grandma's cook stove that burns down your house.
    also you should probably pull down this video before the insurance claim.
    Sorry thumbs down 👎

      @@hartstudebakerkid He basically went down the isle at the farm store and bought the cheapest components he could find. The parts that he has used don't even belong together.
