The “Nuke” is a counter weight called a Columbus weight for a velocity current meter. These are used typically by USGS. Usually they are made out of solid brass or lead with an aluminum tail. If it’s a lead version it’s probably good that you pulled it out of the river. 😁
Erik H there’s nothing inside them. They are strictly weights. There is typically a slot cut into them that cuts all the way through so that a hanger bar can be installed. They are shaped like a torpedo so that the water flows nicely around them without causing turbulence. The fins in the back simply keep it pointed up stream so that the velocity meter can get an accurate reading.
