It's likely the easiest Dream Theater solo but it's so tasteful. These Walls is one of my favorite Dream Theater songs, and that solo just fits so well with the vibe of the song.
The comment that i was looking for 👍🏻
Not complicated solo but you have to be good at technical side to play it well with Petrucci Vibe☺️
Easy to play, but hard to write. The feeling and depth put into this solo is incredible
Yup!
facts
The most amazing thing about Petrucci's playing is not the technique, but the emotional phrasing. You did a pretty good job at that, I must say!
And that’s what I like about John Petrucci…yeah, it’s fun hearing him go nuts and shred it up, but when he does slower melodic type solos like this one, The Spirit Carries On, Another Day, Hollow Years, Octavarium, etc, it’s a home run every time.
If you haven't heard his solo albums, i highly recommend them, especiially the latest one has some real bangers.
Well played man ! Having a good vibrato and bending intonation it’s not so easy though . Probably the only things that differentiates a bad guitarist from a good one !
They definitely separate the boys from the men! Thanks!
It definitely makes you a good player but being good at one technique doesn't make you a superior guitarist or musician. Taking it to the extremes: John Petrucci, Django Reinhardt, Nile Rodgers, Robin Guthrie, Narciso Yepes, Thurston Moore, Yvette Young I could go on. All vastly different players who don't remotely cross each other in style or technique but all brilliant in their own right.
@@chrisgreene7075 True that. Bending and vibrato are overhyped. Kirk Hammett has cringey vibrato and out of tune bending (he even said it himself) but that doesn’t make him less of a guitarist. People should stop overhyping bending&vibrato. It’s just bending&vibrato.
@@iganpparamarta8813 It's all in the composition. Not how fast one can play or technically strong.
@@SwapnenduKar My guy Kirk does exactly that.
It's not hard to hit all the notes, it's about the feel!
Yep. The phrasing and feel is where it's at with this one!
I always was happy about the beautiful and easy to play solo in "Repentance" - until today one of my favorite DT solos! =)
Beautiful solo indeed.
Also one of my favorites! I played it recently!
First couple of notes remind me beautiful solo of Take away my pain
when its time to play .. just play .. music is instinctive .. its about emotion .. a vibe .. practicing just prepares you for that.
I alway found it interesting how this solo shares its opening melody with the one from Take Away My Pain.
Something quite close, and in an equally underrated song, is the The Bigger Picture solo. Always loved that song, which only crime is the abysmal drum sounds.
Ah yes! Very cool song. We did that one live a few years ago. Not the greatest sound capture but you can make some of it out:
ua-cam.com/video/uUP6QOpc5j0/v-deo.html
Amazing!
Damn! Nailed it! Such a good song! I’m definitely subscribed now 🤘🏼
Even in a solo this simple, the amount of pickup changes is unbelievable. It makes all the difference too.
It’s the vocal quality, the articulation, the timing. When you’re ripping through a scale, there’s so little space between the notes to notice error. When the notes are singing, holding before vibrato is applied etc, there’s so much nuance required.
The new album, aVFtTotW, has some of the most vocal, vowel like articulation Petrucci’s playing has ever had. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was enunciating consonant phonetics by the end of the decade.
simple in notes but very expressive! you got all of the licks right
I gonna learn it right now, thanks brow, this tone is amazing, you rocked!
Tear down these walls for me.....
Go for it, bro! It's simple yet very cool to play!
This song is so damn underrated, one of the best songs on Octavarium, Portnoy really sells it
Yeeees! Rudess does some very tasteful work on this, too. One if their best "standard issue" rock songs, everyone puts in a good take.
It’s a simple one, but really effective! I love this song.
oh these walls what a song
Perfect hi-amplitude vibrato. Finally someone can play vibrato well instead of mosquito squeeks
You really got that tone dialed in. Beautiful solo cover. I need to get my lazy ass up and spend some time on fine tuning my gear. It is just too easy to fire up Guitar Rig and be done with it. But the tone is nowhere near what I could get out of my Mesa gear like you do.
Already knew it was gonna be These Walls. Awesome song, really great solo even if it's "simple", main riff is badass, Portnoy kills on this as well
I see lots of guitar players that can play technical circles around anyone with the shred approach but cannot for their lives bend to the right note or pitch or vibrato that has no soul. I would prefer to watch and listen to a tasteful player over someone who can play notes and notes during a solo. It's magical when guitar players can play with both technique and soul. Great job on this cover!
"I see lots of guitar players that can play technical circles around anyone with the shred approach but cannot for their lives bend to the right note or pitch or vibrato that has no soul"
like Kirk Hammett...
There is no such thing, easy and dream theater in the same line lol. Amazing well executed man, love it!
Man that was tasty. Petrucci's simpler solos deliver the feels.
Now this is what I'm talkin about
Wither next. One of my favorite solo, when I first hear it, it makes me goosebumps
antes mesmo de dar play no vídeo já imaginei na minha cabeça que este solo seria o mais "simples", com menos notas. muito bom.
As bad of a shredder as I want to be, I'd rather be able to play with more feel and powerful phrasing like this. Sweep picking is hard in one respect, and so is doing a perfectly executed vibrato or bend. Solid cover man, I really felt it come through your playing \m/
The Alien guitar solo on the beginning of the song
I would love to have that guitar! It will match my Spector Euro bass!
This solo always reminded me of Journey
So many slides and nuances! My vote for the easiest one goes to Repentance
Well I suck at bends even after 19 years of playing guitar, so I think this is actually harder than a lot of the other solos lol
I play guitar for 28 years and still struggle! haha
We need a new split cover soon man...
The Bigger Picture, Savior in the Square, The Alien (first one), and Fall into the Light are pretty easy too.
Sometimes , simplicity is more powerful....🤘
maybe it’s easy but your bends and vibratos that are so perfectly in pitch and time worth to mr more than sweeps and crazy alternate picking runs! There is a section in Erotomania that solo is super easy count of Touscany intro solo is damn easy, towards the end also easy solo cheers
I’ve played this at so many Systematic Chaos shows, and still manage to screw it up every now and then. 😄
Very good vibrato
Thank you!
It may seem simple, but try to nail every bend that must be in tune, every smooth vibrato, and in addition try to get the feel and vibe, and you will see that it is not simple
Btw played very well
What tone, is that a Hughes and Kettner Grandmeister? awesome
solo lindo
Ey dude, whats its your gear, the tone its soo fucking good🔥
Hollow Years from FII is probably the easiest solo. Very short and sweet! Props for Petrucci using all acoustic for it!
The melody is so similar to one old song of RIVERSIDE
Try the Take Away my pain solo
It's also a great one! I don't think it's easier than These Walls tho.
Feel is everything when playing guitar.
It might seem easy but getting the right intention behind every note is harder than most people think
Talvez seja mesmo o mais fácil. Não duvido.
and even easier solo from Through Her Eyes
I'd say the original "Hollow Years" solo (not the Budokan shred-fest lol) is easier, but I like this one much more.
I like how the “easiest” solo is still in 3/4 and takes some crazy bend and vibrato technique
There's also a time change in there. 2/4 (if you're thinking 3/4) or 5/4 if you think 6/4.
It's 6/8 bro with 1 or 2 changes
@@erosbifebeef5115 6, 6, 6, 5. Repeat.
@@ThiagoCamposOfficial so 2 bars of 6 and the a bar of 11?
@@skoupidia2057 3 bars of 6, 1 of 5. That's how I count it.
what about In The Presence Of Enemies Pt1 intro?
😮😍🤩👍
Breaking the law,for whom the Bell toss, symphony of destruction, call from the grave, etc...
@@soldadoryanbr7776 isso mesmo
@@soldadoryanbr7776 Mas nisso estás a pensar em riffs e não em solos. O symphony of destruction tem um solo bem complicado
I suppose but I would imagine getting those bends just right with the right amount of flourish is the difficult part.
These Walls
Um dos meus preferidos do Petrucci é ainda mais fácil que este aí (na minha opinião) que é o primeiro solo de This is the Life do A Dramatic Turn of Events.
Listening it is simple , seeing it being played is completely different
The only DT solo I ever learned was Repentance lol
It's a bit harder than this one, and a very cool solo!
People who say DT has no soul have only heard the top 3 most popular or meme songs
If they heard any of it at all and aren't just echoing the memes.
I get a Police "Wrapped around your finger" vibe.
Fall into the light is pretty easy too!
I was expecting a fuckup lol powerful solo regardless of its difficulty
I always think that Another Day's solo is the easiest one.
What string gauge is that?
Hollow years (studio version, not Budokan live version LOL)
String gauge?
What string gauge do you use?
10s. Ernie Ball Cobalt (Regular Slinky)
Yeah i mean its not meant to be any sort of shredding solo, but you played it perfectly. I like that john with all his skills didnt always try to shred when it wasnt needed. Unlike lirk hammet from metallica who i think only knows how to shred. Gets tiresome after a while.
Mmmm, that was tasty!
Name of the song?
It may be the easiest, but it's also one of Petrucci's best solos in DT for me. Also, whenever ignorami keep saying that he has nO fEeLiNg, I show them this solo (and the one in Learning to Live).
Can't forget the live Hollow Years solo either
Song name
Dream theater at wit's end solo ending please
I haven't learned that one yet, but it's my FAVORITE DT SONG from Mangini era.
I think that solos like this are as hard playing as the virtuoso/shred ones, it has to transmit feeling through every note, bend, slide, vibrato, etc. Different kind of difficulty.
And with 200 notes per second you can skip one and nobody notices it. Even I can probably learn this solo in a short amount of time, but to get the right feeling takes a lot of practice and just getting it in your head.
You'd definitely need to get that vibrato and bending right
Definitely need a certain level of instinct and phrasing to play that. Maybe easy comparatively to other dream theater but certainly not easy in the context of guitar as a whole. Especially if you have beginners in mind.
More easier is the solo of out of reach. From DOT album
Missing a pinch harmonic though, but yeah there's a reason I covered this song :)
Ahem actually looking back it's all out of sync idk why and the pinch harmonic I remember is only there the second time the solo kicks in
A Change Of Seasons - Another World Solo might just be the easiest
Vra
Did anyone else think it was just a super buff girl
only if "easiest" in terms of speed and the strings jump quickly.
The bigger picture is also easy
Play some Symphony X stuff.
Ι never thought of that part as a solo, cause it's not. It's just a melody.
Mmm I don't think so, what about erotomania?
Really, Erotomania?
@@ThiagoCamposOfficial Dude, IT'S A JOKE
It's not. The easiest solo is in "Speak To Me".
I always thought that Another Day's first solo was the easiest Dream Theater solo
I think the first another day solo is easier
Song name?
These Walls
Actually I think the glass prison arpeggios are easier but that's just me
Haha yeah!! I just did it today (VERYYY SLOW, 30bpm) for my DT UNISONS course. Even at that speed it's hard.
what is this guitar bro
JP's very own signature model, my friend! Ernie Ball Music Man Majesty - Blue Honu (2019).
you are using 9's or 10's string floating like butter
