They answer some of your questions in that panel, like how indeed, ANY champion can take the new devotion spell.
The Shields of the Spirit thing may not give you the SAME bonus those in your aura get, but you still Raise a Shield, so you're still getting your ac bonus from your shield.
Your content is fine. That guy on Reddit doesn't know what he's talking about. You bring a ton of experience and thought to the system, but you stay focused on the topic. Some people have such short attention spans that if you don't have some sort of gag every minute, you're "dry". That's on them.
Honestly, a lot of tabletop content on UA-cam sits somewhere on a scale between mellow / laid back / straightforward, to energetic / bombastic / excited. You definitely fall on the prior part of the scale, but I'm more partial to that end of things to be honest. For me it makes it easier to parse information, and I don't get disappointed by someone hyping up their brand new original method of running something in a game only to find that it's once again just adapting PF2's rules into their own system.

That's disappointing, the centaur video had such a silly premise that it's what got me to sub in the first place. And going through your old videos with ADHD, it's much easier to watch and absorb information in your older stuff just because they had music tracks, even if they were simple. I'll stick around of course since your stuff is great, but I'm sad to see sillier rules applications and music backing get written off. Though I guess it's true I watch more of your rules videos... but that's because I'm very new to the pathfinder system lmao.
I do kind of wish they would have changed the class name back to paladin. I was fine with the name champion since they made paladin a subclass, but now there's not really a reason for it other than some lingering old views that paladins are required to be lawful good that not many people actually feel anymore (maybe some OGL reasons too, I dunno). It's not that big of a deal where I'll get all up in arms about it, but I just think paladin is a more interesting name than champion.

I guess I can see why that person said your content is dry, but I think that's a very uncharitable interpretation. You're unapologetically a rules lawyer, and you're my first stop when I want to understand Pathfinder mechanics and get a feel for classes, spells etc. While the content I've seen here doesn't have the storytelling aspect of someone like @TheMythKeeper (an excellent PF lore channel) I don't think that's a) always necessary or b) what I, at least, expect and appreciate from this channel. I say keep doing what you're good at and re: "moist" videos - have fun when you want to!

1:57 - I am completely onboard with this change. Immanuel Kant would argue that you should never lie under any circumstance. Even if you were a single person hiding an innocent person fleeing from an angry mob, and the angry mob knocked on your door and asked you if you were hiding them, Kant would say that you should answer honestly but deny the mob entry. But, obviously, that's really fucking stupid, because the mob will just gang up and beat the shit out of you, and then kill the person you were trying to protect.
Please don't change, your videos are great as they are. Yes they are more analytical, but that is good, you do that well, so go on and don't get disheartened by ranters 🙂
kinda weird that you probably won't be able to gain more then one focus point without taking an archetype, because, if I understand correctly, champion's focus spells (aside from those three that seem to be exclusive to each other) won't be coming in PC2
Man I have a lot of opinions about these changes. The Paladin has probably been one of if not my favorite class since he was introduced into the game way back in the day. There is the issue of Paizo having to protect themselves againt WotC/Hasbro lawsuits and thus I see changes to the game that really have no real benefit to the customers. A lot of the class seems to fall into that category. In my opinion it is actually a step backward for us players, but I understand it. I do not agree at all with removing alignment, but luckily for me I can and will keep it in my games. So now lets get back to what I would want to see for the default Champion (Paladin) in this game. Right now the largest issue I see is that the Champion can and is ignored by smart monsters. They are hard to hit, but can't really do a ton of damage. This needs to change and to me again this would have worked great with alignment. A Champion should get smite as a reaction at level 1. This should auto scale and be a reaction, so the Paladin has a choice to either mitigate damage or REALLY hurt the enemy. This damage should be enough to make a smart monster really think about ignoring the Paladin. The balance would be that it only worked on evil characters. Next up is the damage reduction. The range needs to be increased as 15" is way to small at later levels and the damage reduction should scale a lot better. 2+your level just doesn't cut it. Again it should be enough to make smart monsters really want to target the Paladin. Lastly, there needs to be a lot more choices for Focus points. I would love to see so many good ones that it would a hard choice for the player and allow Paladin's to really be different.
I want to like Champion, but in pf2e I find too many of their abilities are completely focused on certain types of monsters. So if you aren't in a campaign with a lot of those monsters, I don't know what the point of the Champion is.
@@agilemind6241 Oh man I have to house rule quite a bit as a GM for our Champion/Paladin. One was exactly that. I let him choose at the start of the day what his "enemy" is or whatever they call it. I have to do some other things as well but one was to basically give him a Holy (Good) weapon that is really overpowered, If not every smart enemy in the game would ignore him and kill the Cleric, then the Wizard and then the rest. I am just hoping they address some of my concerns for players outside my group. Now I also have a belief the the creators of Pathfinder, have certain political and social leaning (hard leanings) and because of that they struggle with this type of Class. Thus, in my opinion it is a bit of a mess.
The redeemers I've seen play often give a hard choice to strength-based monsters. Though I wish that you got your choice between enfeebled, clumsy or stupefied for the attached debuff, and have it scale in value and time. Half damage would be a better level for the reduction.
Argument! The rules videos are the ones that people *want*/*need* to watch. But the way you deliver the content is indeed a bit dry or monotone. So the content is not the issue.

Thanks for this update. Very interesting changes...they got rid of the alignment system, but almost kept a quasi-alignment system still for champion. I also signed up for dry, so I like dry. But your dry jokes are also very welcome :)
So you know, I DO vastly prefer your dry videos because they are comprehensive and digestible. If anything, you could MAYBE moisten up with more quips a la the intro of this video, but I've never sensed a lack of humor or enthusiasm.

Now that you mention it, and just trying to give positive constructive criticism i've notice the dry thing too, and in my opinion it's not because of the content as much as the delivery, i got hooked on this channel with videos like the importance of the +1 and such, with really in depth argumented explanation behind the math of the game, and content wise is as i would expected, as for the delivery what i mean is the energy, the inflexion when speaking, you are very articulate and explain yourself clearly but maybe trying to emphasize a bit more or put more energy when speaking would go a long way. There are videos where you are really excited about what you are explaining, and it shows on the way you deliver your argument, you are much more invested and as a viewer i can tell, atleast i think i do, and others where you are not as invested and well as a result neither am I when watching, is not as engaging. hope it helps, anyways you still are one of the best pf2 content creator and very informative :)
Thank you so much for keeping your videos informative and dry. Thankfully I do not have ADHD and need anything else to keep my attention to the video, as they are the best on what you're here for. But I know some content creators that I couldn't stand watching a single video after they started putting random "funny" sounds buzzing on my ears every now and then. Keep it up!

The spirit damage on attacking allies is basically the same as the 4e paladin's mark. It seems like they are really trying to borrow the 4e tanking mechanics, which I am a huge fan of. It's not "Attack me because I insulted your mother!". It's more, "If you attack my friends, there will be consequences". The decision is still up to the GM, but it adds more factors for them to think about.
You should do the moist stuff as surprise bits in what look like dry videos. Reel in the clicks with rules lawyering, then hold them captive to sit through your ART.
@@philopharynx7910 the problem is, that as it is, a bard can do better with a focus spell, much better in fact, and the damage is useless. IF it scaled 1d4 pr level, and it was damage reduction instead of thorns, I think it would be worth it and would fit better with the theme of floating spirit shields that block damage.
Why would Sanctificaiton ever be mandatory in Remaster? It was mandatory in Compatibility Champion, simply so the class still worked the same regarding Allignment Weakness triggers and consistency. But now they had proper time to rework the class. Getting rid of allignments should naturally allow "neutral" causes. In fact, Sanctification offers _more_ neutral space. Most formerly good or evil creatures won't be running around with a sanctification. - Divine Aura: I guess the Kineticist reminded them that having a defined Aura can be really usefull? - good riddance for Oaths. Level 2 was either Oath for Flavor or the "pick a Archetype" level. Oaths were that underwhelming. - I love that undead healing is based on harm font. Previously Undead Champions had to have evil causes to heal themselves - not anymore. And maybe they can even get both Spells with a Feat, if their deity matches?
I'd love to see more mechanics for defensive fighting that des not entail the use of a shield... I got excited thinking the new "Shields of the Spirit" ability was going to be similar to "spirit guardians" with them floating around your character regardless of what you are wielding, but the pigeon holing from Paizo on many fronts continues sadly. Not every two handed weapon (or single-handed weapon) wielding character design should be forced down the barbarian (or rogue/ranger/swashbuckler archetype) paths. Great weapon wielding, divinely protected "Paladins" have been a staple in heroic fantasy forever.

So you know, I DO vastly prefer your dry videos because they are comprehensive and digestible. If anything, you could MAYBE moisten up with more quips a la the intro of this video, but I've never sensed a lack of humor or enthusiasm.

Now that you mention it, and just trying to give positive constructive criticism i've notice the dry thing too, and in my opinion it's not because of the content as much as the delivery, i got hooked on this channel with videos like the importance of the +1 and such, with really in depth argumented explanation behind the math of the game, and content wise is as i would expected, as for the delivery what i mean is the energy, the inflexion when speaking, you are very articulate and explain yourself clearly but maybe trying to emphasize a bit more or put more energy when speaking would go a long way.
There are videos where you are really excited about what you are explaining, and it shows on the way you deliver your argument, you are much more invested and as a viewer i can tell, atleast i think i do, and others where you are not as invested and well as a result neither am I when watching, is not as engaging. hope it helps, anyways you still are one of the best pf2 content creator and very informative :)
I think one of issues is that UA-cam didn't give out any notifications about your music videos. Personally, I kinda liked them and the variety.
Save the spicy stuff for Patreon and OnlyFans.

Thank you so much for keeping your videos informative and dry. Thankfully I do not have ADHD and need anything else to keep my attention to the video, as they are the best on what you're here for. But I know some content creators that I couldn't stand watching a single video after they started putting random "funny" sounds buzzing on my ears every now and then. Keep it up!

The spirit damage on attacking allies is basically the same as the 4e paladin's mark. It seems like they are really trying to borrow the 4e tanking mechanics, which I am a huge fan of. It's not "Attack me because I insulted your mother!". It's more, "If you attack my friends, there will be consequences". The decision is still up to the GM, but it adds more factors for them to think about.

I feel that the new shield focus spell is too weak? Not in a vacuum mind, but when you compare it to Lay on Hands, it just doesnt stack up, imo.
If it doesn't take a reaction and thus can be used against multiple attacks it would be awesome.
@@philopharynx7910 the problem is, that as it is, a bard can do better with a focus spell, much better in fact, and the damage is useless. IF it scaled 1d4 pr level, and it was damage reduction instead of thorns, I think it would be worth it and would fit better with the theme of floating spirit shields that block damage.

Why would Sanctificaiton ever be mandatory in Remaster?
It was mandatory in Compatibility Champion, simply so the class still worked the same regarding Allignment Weakness triggers and consistency.
But now they had proper time to rework the class. Getting rid of allignments should naturally allow "neutral" causes. In fact, Sanctification offers _more_ neutral space.
Most formerly good or evil creatures won't be running around with a sanctification.
- Divine Aura: I guess the Kineticist reminded them that having a defined Aura can be really usefull?
- good riddance for Oaths. Level 2 was either Oath for Flavor or the "pick a Archetype" level. Oaths were that underwhelming.
- I love that undead healing is based on harm font. Previously Undead Champions had to have evil causes to heal themselves - not anymore. And maybe they can even get both Spells with a Feat, if their deity matches?
I'd love to see more mechanics for defensive fighting that des not entail the use of a shield... I got excited thinking the new "Shields of the Spirit" ability was going to be similar to "spirit guardians" with them floating around your character regardless of what you are wielding, but the pigeon holing from Paizo on many fronts continues sadly. Not every two handed weapon (or single-handed weapon) wielding character design should be forced down the barbarian (or rogue/ranger/swashbuckler archetype) paths. Great weapon wielding, divinely protected "Paladins" have been a staple in heroic fantasy forever.
