Soot is an oily hydrocarbon residue so I would guess an oil based primer would work best. The Zinsser spray can primer is neither fish nor fowl, having an equal affinity for oil or water based paint layers, according to Zinsser’s product info hotline. That might have been the better choice for blocking soot stains.
It worked perfect
@@Idahopainter I’m a painting newb so I tend to borrow trouble.
I like BIN for stain blocking.
It works amazing
Bin is the king of stain blockers
I've been using Zinsser Bulls Eye® 1-2-3 for years and it's a great product
It really is.
123 is the primer we use for everything.
Can't go wrong
Not my first choice for stain blocking but great for priming glossy surfaces
Awesome
Love your content...Lol.. your ladders are cleaner than mine.....
Thanks 👍
Thumbs Up 👍 great information for my projects Thank you!
It sprays ok too on MDF i used it on cabinets i used an fflp 310 tip and it was fine there's a newer bullseye its a plus version and its better than that one
Nice
Hey chriss nice video. I am planning on spraying my cabinets. It has thermofoil on it but I won't remove the thermofoil. Will this primer be good to prime over the sanded thermofoil before spraying with a 2k waterbased paint over it? Or would you suggest another primer in this situation. Thanks!
Much thanks Chris teach them all. Blessings
You are very welcome
Iv had decent luck from 123 but I prefer there oil base
They both have their place
Thanks to the EPA Zinsser products are not what they used to be! I've used their products in the last year and they don't perform like they used to.
They perform pretty good for me.
So you said the spray in a can you can not clean the brush or roller correct?
You would need varsol, acetone, paint thinner, mineral spirits or denatured alcohol etc to clean them. Think of it like oil based paints pretty much
Spray can is not water based
I like zinsser but do u think it's ok for cabinets with varnish gloss finish?
Absolutely 💯 % fine to use on cabinets
To have little chance of failure, sand the gloss, then apply.
BIN is a perfect option
No, it doesn't stick to lacquer or oil based paint without sanding.
Can I use this product on sheet roof
Does it work on rust?
Sheetrock?

recommend the stronger Zinsser BIN or BIN Acqua, for rust but it will continue to bleed through to matter what unless you wash it down and stop any moisture getting in there, then recommend bin acqua/regular bin again
coverstain is best this stuff isn't very good at all. if anything though linseed and limewash paint is for exteriors and it doesn't flake or peel over time just wears away with the uv and doesn't rot timber like synthetic paints either
OK
