Thank You Allan. I enjoy getting older equipment back up and running. The electronics made in the mid 1990's onwards seem to present more of a challenge. More complicated.
These DAT Car decks hardly ever come up for Sale and tend to be rather expensive. I saw an Alpine Car DAT deck up for Sale at the same time as I purchased this Sony unit. Going for about $ 2,000 on eBay. I haven't had much luck with Car decks in general as even the Alpine Cassette deck I purchased needed extensive repair work. I hope you find a good one.
@@gregorybotha Thank you sir! I am a big DAT enthusiast and have owned many home/portable DAT players. It's a dream to own one of these! They just don't exist anymore sadly.
I have TWO of these in my possession. They haven’t been used for years so need testing and the front has become sticky with age. Paid almost $1000 each when new in 1994 and have receipt and original box. Would maybe let one go if you could return the other one with the same external setup you have in this video
@Gregory thanks for your detailed reply. I have openend already the DAT player and messured the voltage on de powerboard. The dc2dc converter DD1 messures 1,2,3,4,5,6- 12.24 - gnd- 4.75(on/off pwr)- 6.14- 5.46- gnd- +7.58- -7.45 volts. So this seems to be ok. Cn 971 and cn 902 are also ok. But cn 972 with 11 pins is were it goes wrong. Pins 7 + 8 Lcd vdo 19.6v must be 9.5v , poweronled 19.6.v must be 8.6v. Pins 9 and 11 should be 7.5 -7.5 gives zero volts so i the problems are the 3 volt regulators switchers q909, q910, q911. A 2SD1802 transistor. Hope anyone can still follow my writings🤣. I removed the metal plate for these 3 transitors. The big one is still in place. Orderd new transitors and all electrolituc capacitors on powerboard. When replaced i will keep you informed. Thanks
I have the same problem. The deck is not rersponding. Power on the display shows every scheme. Only radio button is responding. Mechanism shows no live. Was it only the powerboard that you got fix? Do you have contact info of the firm who repaired your dtx?
The person I went to has many years of experience in car audio deck repairs. Because of it’s age I actually went to a person who works from home. The main Sony agents couldn’t help me. Before I took it to him I suspected the power board was the issue as the voltages it was outputting wasn’t in line with what the service manual was indicating. He confirmed this and said it needed to be completely rebuilt using modern components as it is a type of switch mode power supply. A fair bit more complicated than what is in much older decks. He opened up the “sealed” power unit that you’ll see in the one picture. Beyond that I’m unaware of the components he used. Nothing else required repair and it now works 100%.

@@wiedjai I think you may have lost me a bit 😆. I would love to see what the power supply looks like inside. Is there a way to post a picture somewhere?
@@gregorybotha will try to make video. I have noticed you still have the enclosed powersupply cube right in the back of the player. Maybe your repairing was also the 3 transistors with a modern equivalent. I have the idea sony did a fast release with cheap component and design. Could be savings in production cost begin 90’s. They were in a hurry.
Very impressive, the fact you could change the color on the display is also very remarkable. i'm glad you got it working.

Wow, what an awesome piece of kit! Been looking for a nice working (and reasonably priced) car DAT deck for years now and still no luck.

I'm happy to know my dad has this. Except I didn't remove the goo carefully
