You really need a AM stereo processor (something like stereo tool in software) to do AM stereo properly. unprocessed doesnt do AM stereo any justice!

I got out bidded on e-bay yesterday for one of these. Would love one, but there are problems with parts, and especially the battery. But you can use It on the mains. Defeats the object of having one though. One day I'll get lucky; I have my MDS-5 though.

I have one of these Minidisc MZ-1 Players. Bought it new in Peterborough while I was touring the UK. I also bought a box full of blank discs. Over the time the battery died, and I was unable to replace it, even trying Sony(NZ), so only have mains supply to use the Player. I would gladly swap some of my blanks for a workable rechargeable battery. My location is Hamilton New Zealand, yep well away from the technological world, but the offer is genuine.

Yes it does look like a Stellavox model and from the same era. Both great spy recorder brands before digital devices became the norm and were much smaller.

I guess it does look like a Nagra recorder although this Sony is a stereo recorder where Nagra only made the IV-S. It's a bit smaller and lighter than the Nagra IV-S and can only take 5" reels where the Nagra accepted 7" reels and could play / record at double the speed. I have both this portable recorder and the Nagra IV-S. Both excellent sounding machines.

I think it sounds unbelievably good for Micro Cassette. This deck has both Metal and Dolby capabilities for recording and playback. The camera mic doesn't do it proper justice.

Perhaps you can do a video where you record a vinyl on tape and then play it back while you recording the sound within good interface or recorder. Perhaps you can use something from analog productions old original first press vinyl.

The track is The Robots from the artist Kraftwerk. The Sony recorder is from around 1976. Similar in concept to the Nagra IV-S.

The VU's on that setting on an A77 don't actually represent recorded levels. You need to record a 1kHz odB ref signal and then adjust meters to that. And tails out recording is what those in the know do
Are you referring to the reference level? I'm aware that the VU meters levels change in relation to the output volume settings. This particular reel was recorded on my Nagra IV-S and as I noticed during playback the level settings (especially left and right channels) aren't calibrated exactly the same between both recorders. Probably due to age, however the sound quality is truly amazing for such a vintage machine which has had no restoration work done in my hands. The output from the A77 was captured to my Sony PCM-D1 and aligned in post.
The A77 vu meters during playback with I>II etc input modes are rerouting signal to opposite outputs. It does not represent recorded levels, only internal routing levels as adjusted by the REC level dials. The A77 was most desired by artists back then because of its tape production functions other consumer decks did not offer. D/L manual to fully appreciate what it does

how did you connect the power at home?
I have a 12v cigarette lighter socket at the back of the speaker enclosure, which is connected to a lithium compatible Ctek charger which keeps the internal batteries fully charged.

Hi. Thanks for your kind words. I haven’t used it for more than an hour each time. I leave it plugged into the charger most of the time. The bass could be better but considering the size, it is adequate. I’ve recently taken the deck to a specialist as a new problem arose where there was no sound after turning on the unit. He managed to repair the deck so all is good again. Certainly not an easy task to recap. Good luck 😃.

Hi. I adore vintage. I have original reel decks and turntables since 1976, I still own today. Regrettably, we've moved. It's 2023 !!! Too many variables, wear & tear, conversions, maintenance, parts, having the space etc etc ! Good old mp3's & cd's are the winners everytime ! Vinyl and tape are simply not in the race ! For the romantics and so called audiophiles and hobbiests, YES indeed, but seriously, life is too short to even bother. After selling almost 5000 records over the past decade, I really only miss a few dozen. But let's enjoy music each and everyone, no matter what the format. Cheers and peace.

is the turbo pull as strong/dangerous as some people say it would be?
In terms of modern motorcycles the power delivery is reasonably tame but she does pull strongly. 100 Hp from a 650cc V2 is really good for a bike from 1983. I’ve had to recently replace the fuel pump otherwise the bike is still running well.
