Hey Julia, thanks for your comment and I'm sorry to hear you've been having such a difficult time ❤️ I know DPDR can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and anxiety, and people experience it all the time. The National Institute on Mental Illness estimates that up to 75% of people experience at least one depersonalization / derealization episode in their lives. It's part of your brain's natural defence mechanism and usually it only lasts a few seconds or minutes at a time. It's only when it's focused on as a separate problem (feeling like you're going crazy / in a dream etc) that it can turn into a feedback loop with the anxiety that caused it in the first place. But no matter what caused it or how long you've had it, you can always switch it off completely by stopping that anxious feedback loop. Make sure to carefully read through all the articles and info on my website at www.dpmanual.com and my book The Depersonalization Manual. @@christianwallin4993 Well we only really get 'stuck' (which is still temporary) when we focus on the sensation, and create a feedback loop between it and the anxiety that's causing it. It's same process that's behind all anxiety-based conditions. Hey Shawn I have 3 questions. I’m suffering from dpdr right now The first time I smoked weed, I had dpdr for 2 weeks and it went away I tried it again 2 months ago and had a panic attack and it came back. I went through it ignoring it but I went to a party one day and I had the sensation I was high but didn’t smoke. People around me were smoking tho. Could I have gotten contact high and that triggered another panic attack? Please help
Remember that it doesn't matter what caused the DPDR, what it comes down to is your levels of anxiety going up and down over time, that's all 😊 If you're at a party with people smoking weed that could increase your anxiety and therefore the feelings of DPDR, which can feel like you're 'high'. Read this for more info: www.dpmanual.com/articles/what-causes-depersonalization-disorder/
Shaun, I have a question. It's about DP only. I don't have the focus right now to watch the whole video but I hope you answer this one question: It is normal for emotions to come back slowly and gradually, and go back and forth into dissociation? So you start to feel some emotion but not others. They come back slowly and one by one. Some take a long time. I think a lot of people expect to wake up one day and FEEL it all again, but with me it seems to go very slow. Today I felt a lot of stress and emotion and I cried my eyes out, so much pain came up and I started realising things, I felt so much anxiety suddenly, which I thought I didn't even have, but after that I have no memory of the day and I feel very dumb again. It seems a very slow process where little emotional componants come back one by one and with fall back. Is that normal? It's been months like this. I find it very weird that I can feel emotion A but not emotion B yet....it's confusing.
Hi there! Yes absolutely, experiences like that are very common during the recovery process 😊 Recovery from any anxiety-based condition is never a smooth curve, it always has ups and downs. Read this, I think you'll find it very helpful: www.dpmanual.com/articles/what-does-depersonalization-recovery-feel-like/ And if you would like to speak to a medical professional please don't hesitate to do so. hi shawn. I've been on dp for 5 months. with this condition, there were fears that I had schizophrenia or a brain tumor. I visited a psychologist, he told me that she did not see or saw schizophrenia in me. sometimes I'm pretty sure that I have schizophrenia. And it all happened because I smoked weed the next day, everything seemed to be fine. but at night I woke up with a terrible feeling of fear and trembling. This is fine?
I went through the exact same thing. Felt fine the next day and then in the evening had a blackout panic attack this was at the start of June and I still feel the exact same still just as bad dpdr, helps to know you’re not alone .
There is a thought the DP/ DR is related to the dopamine system THC floods the dopamine receptors but anxiety or a panic attack causes the brain to shut down the dopamine receptors Because it’s in a fight or fight mode. Most come out of it and the receptors begin to respond normally again Some don’t and end up with a prolonged period of DP/DR There is a channel here on UA-cam ( Chris Russo ) He ended up with serotonin syndrome ( Long story ) But he also ended up with DP/DR He took 9-ME-BC which supposedly up regulates dopamine receptors On the third day of taking this orally ( liquid form under the tongue for ten minutes ) He completely came out of the DP/DR It’s worth looking in to

Hey Becky, thanks for your comment 😊 I know DPDR can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and anxiety, and people experience it all the time.
And if you would like to speak to a medical professional please don't hesitate to do so. I would recommend finding an anxiety specialist if possible as they will likely be more familiar with DPDR 👍
The symptoms I mention are all DP DR like small stress or anxiety takes me to this state where I feel unreal I feel lost like my mind is constantly thinking of something / I feel lost I feel depressed that again n again this all happens to me / is it all DP DR like vision feels weird / I feel detached I just wanna stay in bed .....
I really hope I can recover from this soon it’s completely ruined my life 😂

Hi shaun i really appreciate what you are doing
I have a question
Is seeing things dim like your vision is dim and blurry a symptom of dpdr
I have had all the other symptoms but dim and blurry vision are the ones i still struggle with after 9 months is it common with dpdr
Also is ringing in the ear also common?
Yes this is normal I also have this it only happens where you feel fear so dpdr gets hyper

also rining in the ear here, month 8, is your rining loud and constantly?
Don’t worry, visual symptoms like that are super common with DPDR and will fade away and stop as you recover 😊 www.dpmanual.com/articles/does-depersonalization-affect-vision/
Is it like your eyes aren’t open wide enough is that what it feels like?
Shaun, is it possible that this is due to anxiety for everyone? The same treatment method may not be possible for everyone, right? I am afraid of permanent damage to my brain.
Hey I’m experiencing what I think is dp i have almost all the symptoms but the ones that effect me the most are the visual and “memory” symptoms as well as feeling blank it effects me every part of my day. @@Dpmanual Damn, that's scary. Personally I have experienced it only during severe panic attacks, and it's extremely scary. I can't even imagine what it's like getting stuck in that state. I don't know if I could handle it honestly.
@@christianwallin4993 Well we only really get 'stuck' (which is still temporary) when we focus on the sensation, and create a feedback loop between it and the anxiety that's causing it. It's same process that's behind all anxiety-based conditions. It seems scary (especially at the start when you don't understand why it's happening!) but ultimately it's part of your body and brain's protective mechanism, and it's completely harmless and temporary 😊 www.dpmanual.com/about/depersonalization-definition-what-is-it/

Hey Shawn I have 3 questions. I’m suffering from dpdr right now
The first time I smoked weed, I had dpdr for 2 weeks and it went away
I tried it again 2 months ago and had a panic attack and it came back.
I don't have the focus right now to watch the whole video but I hope you answer this one question:
It is normal for emotions to come back slowly and gradually, and go back and forth into dissociation?
Read this, I think you'll find it very helpful:

@@EveSincl Thanks for your comment Eve, and you're definitely not alone 😊
@@Dpmanual and how to distinguish HPPD or derialization?
There is a thought the DP/ DR is related to the dopamine system
THC floods the dopamine receptors but anxiety or a panic attack causes the brain to shut down the dopamine receptors
Because it’s in a fight or fight mode.
Most come out of it and the receptors begin to respond normally again
Some don’t and end up with a prolonged period of DP/DR
There is a channel here on UA-cam ( Chris Russo )
He ended up with serotonin syndrome ( Long story )
But he also ended up with DP/DR
He took 9-ME-BC which supposedly up regulates dopamine receptors
On the third day of taking this orally ( liquid form under the tongue for ten minutes )
He completely came out of the DP/DR
It’s worth looking in to
I'd love to share my story too xxx

Shawn I have a question. Did u at any point during your experience with dpdr start wondering if Solipsism was true? It’s absolutely plaguing me right now and I feel like I’ll never be ok because I can never have the answer. Any advice?

when you are experiencing dpdr and the news comes that you have won $1000,000 it looks like you will be cured today too😂

Do you feel strangely good at night ?
Remember that ultimately, DPDR is just a symptom of anxiety so when the symptoms vary, it's just your anxiety levels going up and down, and certain situations / environments (daytime / nighttime) can affect them.
