Ain't No Love Lyrics:
Maybe that it would do me good
If I believed there were a god
Cut in the starry firmament
But as it is that's just a lie
And I'm here eating up the boredom
On an island of cement
Give me your ecstasy I'll feel it
Open window and I'll steal it
Baby like it's heaven sent
This ain't no love that's guiding me
Some days i'm bursting at the seams
With all my half remembered dreams
And then it shoots me down again
I feel the dampness as it creeps
I hear you coughing in your sleep
Beneath a broken window pane
Tomorrow girl i'll buy you chips
A lollipop to stain your lips
And it'll all be right as rain
This ain't no love that's guiding me
This ain't no love that's guiding me
No it ain't no love guiding me
No it ain't no love guiding me
No it ain't no love guiding me
This ain't no love that's guiding me
This ain't no love that's guiding me
On winter trees the fruit of rain
Is hanging trembling in the branches
Like a thousand diamond buds
And waiting there in every pause
That old familiar fear that claws you
Tells you nothing ain't no good
Then pulling back you see it all
Down here so laughable and small
Hardly a quiver in the dirt
This ain't no love that's guiding me

This is one of David Gray's greatest songs. Pure magic!
💚👌
This song is a masterpiece
Mr Gray you have no idea how you inspire me. Your music is pure art
Was introduced by my teacher 20 years ago. Loved him ever since. It was the white ladder album
This deserves way more recognition just for the instrumentals and vocals... lyrics are great as well but still... wow.
Agree!
I had the good fortune of watching David perform this song in an old church last November. It was one of his first gigs after lockdown and he was really going for it - you could tell he'd missed performing live. His voice was amplified by the amazing acoustics, and during the chorus my jaw was on the floor and tears were in my eyes. The most incredible live performance I've ever heard.
Wow what an experience I could wish I could have been there!
That sounds amazing. I cry my eyes out to this song from time to time. In a good way. Just pure feeling
This album is my favorite of Mr Gray. They are all great, this one is superb

Just love this song.... classic. Deep, intense and off the beaten tracks
Why don't the masses get it?
David Gray is a genius and an angel in the midst of a world of devils and idiots.
🙏🙏 what a cracking song...david gray 🙏🙏 wow
One of my favorites sadly I think years from now he will be appreciated more 😠
You are CORRECT. I am 10 years late to the party, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE this record.
One of my favorite songs.
This whole album is damn near perfect. I say damn near because nothing is ever perfect. If it were we might as well give up. Philosophy class over. At this moment I am like a pig in sh*t.
That piano intro is fantastic.
David Gray is the best Singer song writer out and has been for some time. I saw him in concert in Cincinnati, on the "Draw the Line" tour, and it was beyond phenomenal! I've been to apx. 60 concerts, and none of them come close to DG's Cincinnati show. He played Non stop for nearly 3 hours. Everyone else I've seen since, look and sound like 2nd rate amateurs compared to DG. I don't understand how he can be as underrated as he is? Everyone that hears him, loves him! Elton John is the only Singer Songwriter I can think of that even comes close to DG in talent, ability and body of work. Outside of a very rare few, I don't flippantly use the "Greatest of All-Time" label, but when it comes to music, I believe DG is worthy of that designation. I know I'm sounding like a 12 year old fan girl, but he's a musical genius!
So many memories, sharing life's ups and downs, happiness and sadness gone but never forgotten, forever friends 1999 until forever RIP our loved ones
LIVE, LAUGH, LOVE

I reported the truth to the F.B.I. and for that I languished in a lowly prison for a year. David Gray's poignant messages sustained me.

Somone please explain, why is this not like a chart nr1.... I just don't get it. The lyrics is like romantic Bob Dylan-like poetic one, the verse is like the most original, beautiful one I've ever heard... it really should be quite a hit.
Maybe that it would do me good
If I believed there were a god
Cut in the starry firmament
But as it is thatâ??s just a lie
And I'm here eating up the boredom
On an island of cement
Give me your ecstasy I'll feel it
Open window and I'll steal it
Baby like itâ??s heaven sent
This ainâ??t no love thatâ??s guiding me
Some days I'm bursting at the seams
With all my half remembered dreams
And then it shoots me down again
I feel the dampness as it creeps
I hear you coughing in your sleep
Beneath a broken window pane
Tomorrow girl I'll buy you chips
A lollipop to stain your lips
And itâ??ll all be right as rain
This ainâ??t no love thatâ??s guiding me
This ainâ??t no love thatâ??s guiding me
No it ainâ??t no love guiding me
No it ainâ??t no love guiding me
No it ainâ??t no love guiding me
This ainâ??t no love thatâ??s guiding me
This ainâ??t no love thatâ??s guiding me
On winter trees the fruit of rain
Is hanging trembling in the branches
Like a thousand diamond buds
And waiting there in every pause
That old familiar fear that claws you
Tells you nothing ainâ??t no good
Then pulling back you see it all
Down here so laughable and small

I get Lost in the imagery. Transcending!
What is this song about? I love it
Can't read the torygraph article cos it's behind a paywall, but for me it's a sad hymn to the numbness and cynicism that became endemic in the UK at the end of the 20thC/early 21stC. He's even calling it out in himself in those lines.
The genius of this song is that the (gorgeous) chorus only appears once. DG stops it in its tracks from become a stadium-singalong-type song, and in that act, remains true to the spirit of the song.
He wrote it for a movie. It's about a female who has lost all hope in her faith and in life unfortunately.
Great track, yes he is not really appreciated by the "Media Darlings" but who cares , he writes and performs well and has been around for a long time so well done to him.....
+mike Dowson why did you feel the need to comment that?
Check again, I didn't post the OP
+mike Dowson O.o
Why do you want me to F*** Off....
i promise YALL will not be disappointed
Another crime of the century in rock n roll..
The views and comments amounts...
ITS CRIMINAL
It never felt so good singing such a negative song! (Maybe Lyle Lovett's LA homicide tale...)
