Politics in those days were much more interesting. Today's politicians are like moronic clowns in comparison to those leaders, you respected the leaders back then even though they made a lot of bad decisions and were certainly not impeccable.

You had only one mistake, you said: "Today's politicians are like moronic clowns"
Drop the "Like" Today's Politicians ARE Moronic Clowns.

All of these pieces seem to be part (clips) from a full length documentary. Does anyone know what it is or where these clips came from?

Gorby should be in our prayers every night. Without his efforts along with those of Reagan and Thatcher (whatever you think of them) we would have all been fried in the 1980s. Check out the British nuclear horror film Threads. I crapped myself when that aired.

With the survival of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty now in question, and the seeming political convergence around hawkish policy maneuvers in both the United States and Russia more generally, how meaningful are these accomplishments at this point?

It is unfortunate Gorbachev is not presently Russia's leader instead of Putin. Gorbachev is a realist and a rational reformer. Putin is an egomaniac.

    • @SCP-5000

Gorbachev is not a realist, or his reforms would not have failed so spectacularly. He attempted to move linearly towards a Western political and economic system without due regard to local conditions.

    • @StrivingMen

@@SCP-5000 how come give people freedom is not praiseworthy ? This is not about east vs west. This is about freedom and prosperity. Russians enjoy levels of freedom today because of Gorbachev. The whole system of communism needed to collapse. It was damaging the morale and the stomach of every Russian. Not to mention millions of non Russian who were obligated to live under the Russian boot. Russia got it wrong, while the west was prospering and living as free creatures after the wwii, the Russian and everyone under their imposed regime were living in misery and like robots.

If only we didn't have Jimmy Carter & All the damage he caused across the world, there would be no Iran problems, Israel would still be on the Suez canal making it a viable country & those 2 together would've made the middle east a fully peaceful part of the world with Jews, Arabs & Persians United & peaceful. & China wouldn't be such a problem either & much more.
