I think BMO's line in the last episode sums up why I forgive Adventure Time for wasting its potential: What happened to everyone after that? "They kept living their lives". And then the ending montage of unexplored adventures set to the theme song. You get the sense that this world is just way too big for the whole thing to ever be explored or even understood. And the lens you see that world through is just some kid who has his own stuff to deal with and mostly just likes having fun. If they really got into the weeds of any of the lore it would take away some of that magic. The Adventure Time world feels so huge and magical because we know we're only seeing a fraction of it.
couldn’t have said it better myself .
Worldbuildung Damn near almost as huge as one piece
Yeah i agree, plus i view the show more character driven then narrative driven.
I'm wanting to make a D&D like game based in Ooo. And have campaigns exploring some of this stuff. And Hunsen Abadeer might've....forcefully made Marceline. He is chaotic evil. Also pretty sure we're gonna meet Prismos boss in the new show. Farm world too. What about Jakes actual origin universe....because after impregnating Jakes dad Warren Ampersand opens up a portal to a dimension of liquid beings....Jake has no idea where his true powers or the actual potential of them. But an Adventure Time D&D game....I'll make that map. Also Card Wars VR....if someone doesn't make it I will.
This is how I unironically feel about life XD 😢❤
I wish Jake's kids were more prominant and not banished to slice of life stuff. I don't think we even got to see them interact with a main character besides Jake/Finn. The closest we got was Kim Kil Wan trading with Marceline off screen. Hell, even Shelby interacted with more characters than all of them.
Right. I wanted to know what was going on with their lives. Maybe even an episode about what each of them were up to at the time, but that's just me being selfish >:3
I wish we had *more* slice of life stuff with them. Did any of them even have more than two appearances after their first episode? I'm pretty sure we got 1 episode for each of them, and there was a family picnic with all of them at the beginning of Kim Kil Wans episode.
Friendly reminder, when Finn and the Ice King were in the spirit world and messing with the static on the TV, Ice King starts talking directly to you, the audience, breaking the 4th wall.
I wish we could've gotten to see more of Jermaine. He's a super underrated character
Yeah he was only in like, 3 episodes lol
Genuinely yea
TRUE
he really was, he was only really used as a guide/nudge whenever jake needed to learn a lesson :(
Yeah its kinda sad too cause there are all brother’s and he’s always alone
i think it’s funny that in a video discussing the missed potential of adventure time, halfway through you realized the scope of the video was too large and started hastily concluding your plot threads
But we do see Fin struggle with having lost his arm in The Tower, that scene of him trying to do basic tasks in the kitchen with his stupid huge candy arm.
I always wanted to see how the 3 brothers dealt with the death of their parents. How Jake took care of Finn in their early days living alone. In the distant lands, it was shown that kid Finn and Jake were already living in the tree house before they met BMO, where were Joshua amd Margaret? My original thought was that they died pretty young since it seemed like some time has already passed when we meet Finn and Jake at the start of the show.
About Bandit Princess, they actually thought about making Penny come back in the episode, but they scrapped that idea for some reason. I would've loved to see her again instead of a random new character that was basically just a joke
Would've been a great opportunity to explain and explore the concept of princesses
@@airplanes_aren.t_real yeah, they never really do that, it would've been cool to know for sure what princesses even are
'filler' discourse is so infuriating. not everything has to 'advance the plot' or be 'narratively significant' it just needs to be a well written self contained story!!!!!
THIS
Well in a narrative driven story everything should advance the plot. It’s just the idea of a what if world where it was solely narrative focused could have been something great but it is what it is.
Adventure Time is all about progress. Everyone in Adventure Time has a plot tied to them. The fact that the main character get less time where we see that progress on screen than someone like PB or Marcy is a terrible oversight that can most likely be boiled down to "too many cooks" aka filler ideas turned to episodes
@@vivechjorviani5440the things is it’s not just narrative focus most CN shows aren’t fully and the point of the show is that we only are seeing a snapshot of an entire world and how these 2 individuals learn about it. Especially with although having a focus on Fin and Jake it has so many episodes showing the viewers that just because they’re the main characters the world doesn’t revolve around them.
@@spinoodiiif you think that’s how the show went then I highly recommend rewatching it again. The main thing about Adventure Time that makes it unique is the point that although Fin and Jake are the main characters the world doesn’t revolve around them. Simply put that’s why it’s called Adventure Time because everyone has their own life and adventure
Right off the bat I understand what you mean about the grayble episodes but I and many others really liked them solely due to the fact the gave us great glimpses into the future of Ooo
You make some good points but it's a crime to use Up A Tree footage as an example of "bad filler." Up a Tree is one of the funniest episodes they have!
Thank you!
Funny how a month later Fionna and Cake actually brings back some of these and actually do real justice w the "missed opportunties"
Regarding Jake and Germaine having more childhood memories together but excluding Finn, I always pictured that regardless of Jake’s true nature he still matured and eventually died with a lifespan similar to a regular dog’s, like Germaine.
What this would mean is that Jake and Germaine would have grown up alongside each other while Finn lagged behind with the much slower development of a human. Finn is a child at the beginning of the series, meanwhile Jake is a grown adult with a wife, and he basically acts as a surrogate parent for Finn in their parent’s absence, assuming they too also died within a dog’s lifespan, and Germaine also an adult went his separate way as adult siblings often do.
By this logic, Jake only developed memories and a bond with Finn *because* he took care of him as an adult, not during his own childhood.
But yeah seeing finn be what changes Jake’s ways into becoming responsible for him would have been cool
Jake isn't a dog though? So he wouldn't be living the same timeline as Germaine, Jake is the blue stretch creature.
@@chloebcreations6737 he’s half dog, and if distant lands is anything to go on, his lifespan is significantly shorter than that of Finn.
@chloebcreations6737 jake is yellow-
no hes literally blue thats his origin, he supresses it so he stays yellow@@pandaragons6388
@@pandaragons6388 He's also a blue alien lmaoo
Ok, I actually do like the idea of past Jake being turned good by baby Finn, why, this would even explain why tiffany would want to kill Finn so much, Finn made Tiffany's best gang member be leave, most likely causing them to get caught there next robbery so killing Finn would make Jake join the dark side making them unstoppable
i haven't watched the full video yet but having rewatched the show i noticed that every episode has something that will show up, be relavant or be referenced in a later episode, there are a lot of non centric fin and jake episodes but the world is so rich and there is so much lore from every single episodes, watching all of it in order is super rewarding, they pay vary close detail which is not a common thing nowadays, the only instances of "filler" episodes are in the last few seasons, where almost every episode has some plot progressing, yet the episodes themselves serve at least a character so really there is never a stale episode in adventure time (maybe except the ones in other artstyles)
as a last thing i want to make an exapmle of a filler episode in season 9's elemental arc, the episode in which it's literally just finn and jake stuck on a cloud instead of saving Ooo, probably one of the best episodes i've ever seen, ever. Finn and jake's whole dialogue is just gold writing and honestly is very beatiful to show their very special connection, most alive characters i've ever seen in any cartoon
i completely agree with everything here, although with this new fionna and cake trailer i think we can finally see a of these wasted potential moments fulfilled properly, the new multiversal enemy that is after fionna and cake is almost completely confirmed to be prismos "boss" at this point, i'd be shocked if not. also seeing more of the destiny gang and even a farmworld/alternate reality version of huntress wizard gives me hope that these huge examples of wasted potential can finally be done justice. i'd love to see a cameo of a characters like magic man or canyon, and i'm also hoping to see finn and huntress wizard interact too
Yknow one character interaction I'm bummed out didn't happen? Ice King and the Lich. Think about it. The Lich has history with Evergreen, Farmworld Simon and Ice Finn but the only real interaction he's had with Ice King was when he was possessing Bubblegum. The crown is inherently tied to The Lich so I wish we saw them interact more
@@ncisgeek223the crown was originally created to wish away the Catalyst Comet that summoned the lich and caused the mushroom war
It also helps that Lich was basically the real main villain at the time when he first showed up, taking that spot away from Ice King.
We've got 4 episodes left of Fionna and Cake. Maybe we'll see something there since the shows focus is on Simon (and Fionna and Cake), and we know the Lich is in every multiverse. He's bound to show up more (besides the cameo in the silent cartoon universe Wyatt got sent to by Prismo)
I think we had a lot of "indirect" interactions actually, and I think there is some mystique on it in some ways. Like, the Lich was responsible for the crown's creation, in the farm world the crown stopped Lich's creation, ice king was responsible for PJ possession, and them helped resolve it. If you think about it, the crown and lich have a lot of story together, but yeah, I would love if Fionna and Cake made an interaction between the ice King and the Lich guy.
Simon and The Lich met now sooo i guess you got what you wanted
While I respectfully disagree with a lot of this video, the idea that Finn's break up with FP being the worst part of the show is so wild to me. I would genuinely like to know why you think they would need to "redeem" themselves for that decision. Finn's character arc with emotional and romantic maturity was one of the best parts of the show for me, and that's why I love the episode Bun Bun so much. Finn going to FP and apologizing, genuinely, after all that time showed his growth as a man. His relationship with FP wasn't as perfect as people think, and I'm glad that that they broke up. I know that sounds fucked, but I just think the hints were there. And I don't want to hear that what Finn did in "Frost & Fire" was out of character.
Cosmic Owl’s an asshole and gets away with it
I used to think Finn was out of character in frost and fire but then I rewatched the show and realized how ignorant Finn really is lmao
Are people forgetting that he was 15 lmao
@@Haunted_PlushThen again, he lost his human parents when he was a baby and he lost Jack's mom and dad when he was really young, so I think that explains some of it.
Probably because it was so drawn out that's at least 1 of 3 reasons I could think of
I don’t know if you are aware of this but in a bunch of Adventure Time books that the Lich is Hunson’s rival. I wish we actually got to see this in the show. Imagine a fight between the two of them. Also fun fact: Penny was originally going to return in the later seasons. She was apparently going to be the one using the Finn Sword instead of Bandit Princess
"finn the humanly possible" such a sweet line
IDK if I agree with the sentiment that the lack of plot resolution was a waste of the show.
Although adventure time had many events, I never felt it was a plot driven show like Gravity falls, in fact I don't think it has much of a plot at all until the final season.
The show, to me, was always very character driven, and it was incredibly effective in doing so. The focus was never on the stories being told but rather the characters being affected by them, and it provide what I feel was a perfect amount of background to contextualise those characters.
I really like the first season, it’s very innocent and charming. It likes a kid going around adventure with his dog! I remember watching promos advertising the before it came out, it was a kid dress as Jake going saying it what is the time? Adventure time!
Something I really wish AT did more is expand on the land of ooo. I wish they made Finn and jake go on more adventure and exploring new strange places and cool dungeons. Episodes like Dungeon and Dungeon Train are some of my favourites. I also love just the beauty of the nature in the land of Ooo. Something I also love is the limitless possibilities with magic and just how cool it is and how it seems like you can do almost anything with magic which I really wish they expanded more on.
Honestly I forget these wasted potentials just because of how they reused the others wasted potentials and did them amazing jobs.
Like Fionna and Cake,I thought it'll never get more episodes about it,but we got the entire new season lmao.
I'm pretty sure Finn's anger was solved in the episode "Another Way".
Sometimes "misspotencial" means in the writers head "Oh, we made it in the spot and never thought in the consequences"
Luckily with Adventure Time being so popular we can get many spinoffs from the show to tell and explain stuff that got left behind in the original run like in Distant Lands and Fionna and Cake, the fun will (hopefully) never end!
One thing the creators of Fiona and cake mentioned though that rings true is how delicate of a balance it is between making new things and expanding upon old things because too far in either direction makes it feel like it’s either abandoning the old stuff and Barry an adventure time show and on the other hand you get a scenario where it feels like they’re out of ideas beyond milking old ones. Thankfully distant lands and Fiona and cake have both been amazing and fit perfectly in that sweet spot but it wouldn’t be hard for it to go wrong intentionally or not.
@@plugshirt1762as a chainsaw man fan that saw the manga go from a masterclass in plot progression, character writing, world building and heightening stakes with an artistic and creative community to a cess pool of misogyny(the fandom not the manga) and seeing it re-use so many aspects from the first part that it almost feels like first draft of part one I can attest to the difficulty of maintaining that balance
broo my favorite youtuber made video about one of the best show . Love your content
aww thank you !! :D
Boy do some of these points get aged by the episodes of the Fionna and Cake
One wasted potential I noticed was there to be some kind of Slime War. In one episode, Slime Prince's sister gets with a fake slime person so that she could be the queen and start a slime war, she even had a bunch of tanks! But Fin came and defeated her. I really hoped for a mini series, like Steaks, Islands, and Elemental where the Slime kingdom is going at war with other kingdoms.
The Fionna and cake (30:41) part made me laugh. I used to feel the same after I found out it was ice king fan fiction 😂 but the max episodes have made me appreciate them IMMENSELY! Id forgotten how many questions I had about the series , a lot have been answered thanks to the show. Appreciate your deep dive, we agree on a lot.
One fun fact I’ll bring up in case no one else has: the character of Bandit Princess was created as a replacement for Penny. They wanted to bring her back in BP’s episode but couldn’t get the voice actress back so they just created a new character.
The disease that killed Marceline’s mom is the same that almost killed all the humans in the islands
That? In ISLANDS, it was specified that the human disease was created for DrGross and contained IN THOSE AREAS, so it is most likely that it was in an area close to radiation and since it was not half a demon, it died from it.
@@JuanAlbertoHernandezAlvarez make sense
its radiation poisoning, did she not say that?
@@MalaMalaMMDShe didn’t, but im pretty sure that’s what the viewers were supposed to infer.
She wasn’t even alive until way after that also all the humans were still on Ooo when Marcy was a kid.
This goes without saying but one of the best problems a show can have is not having enough of it
Especially impressive considering how long the show already is
This bouda be good 💯
There could be a series of non plot episodes where stuff like this is explored. That would be awesome.
bro thinks he coulda wrote adventure time better lmfao
I'm kinda sad that everyone keeps demanding a New JJK iceberg so fast, let the moth cook and enjoy his other great videos
it’s okay I can take it I’m used to it at this point 🥲 but I love the support tysm never change my friend
great work brother!
I’m thankful that all the shows I grew attached to; Regular show, ed edd eddy, kids next door, amazing world of gumball and ofc this, had an ending to it and didn’t jus stop airing without a resolution
I dont belive it had wasted of potential, but its because the is so good that we end up wanting more of it😅
Your voice is so smooth and the music enhances it I wouldn't mind binging all your videos and waiting for me great UA-camr
Open world adventure time Skyrim type game would be cool
love the video would enjoy seeing more adventure time content in the future
Love this vid! Don’t worry about the vid being long I love listening to you while I clean organize etc
super underrated creator, you deserve to blow up, for you to only get a few thousand views and less than 20k subs is a CRIME. Will be sharing this video everywhere, keep up the good work bro, quality content, quality video 👍
thanks blaster 🥲
30:31 you forgot that we see that it's projected into his head, and we also see "fionna" who is a self-conscious girl who INTERCEPTED a fionna and cake story into a dvd.
You probably know that by now, having (probably) watched fionna and cake, but even IN ADVENTURE TIME it wasn't JUST ice king's fanfic.
I always thought about all those things you said in this video, so I created my version of what would have been the perfect final season. Loved the video bro
We were ROBBED of a betty and marceline episode, they're the only two people that really knew simon
Jallomoth way too underated
real
Wrd
For now...
You are the goat I've been watching since the first jjk iceberg and I'll be around for this kinda content for as long as you're producing it
28:13 yeah, that guy is going to appear, don't worry.
I loved this video, you did an amazing job with this and I'd love to see a pt two if you have anymore lost potential ideas regarding adventure time.
dude your content is so good!
Need to have a Fionna and Cake video now because they've kinda directly answered a few of the points that you made in the vid
the mystery is what make it so magical. We know as much as characters we see, we explore the world, and then there is another adventure. Not everything needs to be deep, and often the truth may be dissapointing
I really wish Fern stuck around for a few seasons and was developed upon more. Still my favorite show though.
bad take but go off
Love your videos brother
Great video, man. 🎉
after all that's come after the original series, i'd call it "untapped", not "wasted" because it shows the many expressions of emotion that the spin offs have, that tie deeply to the source material.
Loved the video, subbed
I'm not gonna lie. Based on the title, I wasn't sure how i was going to feel about this video.... 😅 But I loved it!!! And when I say loved it I mean LOVED it!!! Adventure Time is my favorite cartoon of all time and even though it's my comfort show I always felt like there was something missing somthing and you checked off every box in one video. I would love to watch more of your Adventure Time content if you're down to make more. Maybe about arcs and how you would rewrite them because I genuinely think you have a knack for it.
I think it’s one of the greatest shows of all time and yes it could’ve been so much better still even now they can reboot it again after Fiona and cake right where we left off maybe a few years in the future and it could be great but really, it could’ve been better
I wish we could've gotten to see more of Wyatt. He's a super underrated character
great video dude
Finns color blindness came up again in the movie. It's why he thought Mr fox(I think it was) was Jake! 😂 great video boss
man this is such a well made vid, love hearing your opinion, even when it differs from mine you word it so well you have me questioning things ive thought for years lmao
Loved this video and I don’t comment often, good work
I wish we got more on Mo, BMO's creator.
me too :(
I think fern was low key ine of the most underused characters we se them as fin sword and in the ending he does get his good closure but i think they could done way better things with that character maybe an episode of fern trying to be himself only to get to the conclution that he is finn but worse or smngt like that i dont kgow
we did get that episode if Im not mistaken
Great moves jallo keep it up
I have an idea for why Gumbald is Punchy, based on two factors. The punch in Punchy is the same color as the dum-dum juice, and Gumbald got the largest dose of the dum-dum juice of the three. The larger dose probably made him dumb enough he forgot his desire for ruling the Candy Kingdom. And the huge dose would be reflected in the fact he is a punch bowl FULL of punch. Another factor is that he is in the inventor of the dum-dum juice, so his dum-dum form BEING bowl full of punch that looks like dum-dum juice very fitting in a symbolic way. Chicle being Crunchy fits since Chicle always wants to be the center of attention, and who is the center of the attention in the land of Ooo? Princesses. The one that’s always bothered and confused me, though, is Lolly to Manfried. I don’t understand that one. Your video has been a joy to watch, you have a lot of good points. Thank you for making it!
You really deserve more subs
great video 👍
Fionna and cake will touch on prismos boss.
People will never be happy with just a really good cartoon.
OH are you happy with more of the destiny gang
Personally I like that Adventure time has so much extra untapped potential. I've loved every new special season they make. I like all the characters, the patheon and just generally the sincere writing style that isn't afraid to be wacky. I think if Finn "completed" the entire land like it was a game he finished that would be kinda depressing and make the land seem a lot more hollow and not real. We also don't see all the adventures they go on and I think its fine.
The thing you mentioned about Finns arm that should’ve happened in the episode the tower did happen, he got angry and broke his candy arm tryna make spaghetti
What about the missed opportunity of Flame Princess?
amazing video
I’d love to hear your talk about adventure time more!
And also i think as long as the story is heartfelt and deep like the bmo episode has foreshadowing in their second guesses like "hes not becoming mythical or something like a part of the tree" says jake about fern who....becomes the new tree. But i do agree i can think of four or five episodes after adam muto, who shaped the true soul of the show, i skip. Ricardio also i thought should be important as simon is human again....is his heart still candy? I thought this was why Betty couldnt fix him. Donnie is just mentioned again. Maybe we will find more out about threads that got left behind in Fionna and Cake. And I thought Gumbald was Crunchy bc he tried to take over.... Sorry I should reply at the end of the vid lol
I don’t know why but the crazy Squirrel needed more episodes. He was such a funny character.
12:37
This guy😂
babe wake up new jallomoth vid dropped
I really wish we saw more of Hunson Abadeer as a legitimate threat. We got like, a few episodes of that? And then he became Ned Flanders after that. I think he could've been on the level of Orgalorg or Lich in terms of power, but with a more distinctly human personality - plus, it would have allowed some expansion on his relationship with Marceline's mom, and he could even be a major player towards the end of the series against GOLB (who himself is wasted potential)
Ironic how your video came only days before the Fiona and cake series (that has potential to solve some problems, such as potentially prisons boss or even the huntress wizards relationship with fin,at least in the first 2 episodes)
At least they are starting to address things like Prismo's boss and Fiona and Cake's universe
No matter how many more great episodes there could've been, I think they would never be enough, because AT truly feels like a well of infinite potential.
As for my wasted potential gripes:
Not a particularly big fan of Finn's development. There's a lot of good there but also feels like he got stripped of a lot of character traits for nothing? He feels kinda hollow as a character by the end, not because he is more mature but because it feels like he doesn't play off the other characters very well. Maybe it's because the focus shifted away from him?
I am of the opinion that certain elements like the unusual one-off creatures and locations from the earlier seasons don't mesh well with the later story-driven seasons. Out of all the shows that made a silly-t--serious transition AT is probably one of the most solid ones I've seen but after season 5 it became kinda frustrating to me because it felt like it tried to be the jack of all trades (having both serious stories and a silly comedic premise) but ended up being the master of none. It's something that seasons 1-5 could pull off quite well but with more subtlety and also thanks to not taking itself too seriously, so glaring issues like Finn giving away his hard-earned Enchiridion to a random bear. So when you watch the later more serious seasons you expect there to be more development, but there isn't any, because suddenly that's the "episodic" element.
Also I think the later seasons (from 8 onward) focus too much on the same stuff like PB being a dictator or something, or Marceline's (plothole-filled) backstory. Like if there's anything happening it has to be related to them somehow, or to Simon (almost every time Ice King appeared the show would be like "look it's the sad human man!"), or to humans. Lots of build-up for a pretty rushed final season. It's probably CN's fault for not letting the team know that the end was near but I'd rather have more non-sequitur episodes than another episode about PF being a "bad person".
W upload moth man
Ok my theory is that because of the crown's powers ice king receives clips of a mirror dimension AKA Fionna and cake's dimension then ice king writes them down in his book and kind of changes it to fulfill his lust
this video was great
I enjoyed this enough that I liked and subbed the second you asked with a literal "yeah he's right" moment
27:05 I always assumed Marce was conceived under less than ... ideal or consensual conditions. I mean- he's the KING of the Nightosphere and up until later in the show when he wants to improve his relationship with Marceline he IS evil. He also seemed to be really interested in having an heir to inherit the throne in early adventure time (shown in that episode he tricks Marce with the pendant). I don't think it's far fetched to assume he tricked, bribed, or blackmailed Elise into having a kid with him to ensure he could have that heir.
26:35
Probaly radiation because she's still 100% human and Marceline has 50% demon to battle it off.
And uh... the bomb just explode not long ago and all the other human in the bunker when Marceline go in later scene all dead when the door can't shut tight, probably be cause radiation sickness too.
Bit late on this but I think one of the problems with adventure time is it feels scared to challenge the status quo and thus sacrifice the potentially infinite creativity it has, but because of this it never uses it’s creativity in a way that is meaningful, never is a bit over dramatic lol, but one example of this to me is Finn loses his arm, then gets a new arm, loses his arm gets a new arm, in a way it feels like it’s to scared to commit to any real big character choices that would severely limit them creatively down the line, but I think that’s what gives the choices meaning at all, onde door closes another opens type deal, another door opening means a lot less if no doors close in turn.
Honestly something that amazes me so much is that even with its already untouchable legacy, Adventure Time didn’t end because the writers wanted it to, it was cancelled and forced to end. I think i remember hearing somewhere that if the show didn’t get cancelled, most of the topics you discussed here was pretty much in their plans if it were to continue. With the amount of stories they had yet to tell its a pretty safe conclusion for me to say this show absolutely could have kept on going strong until they wanted it to.
I agree with most of this but I also get leaving things unsaid to add mystery also some of these things are just implied like marcelines mom definitely died from radiation
Let's gooooo
The moth has returned
