    What a great video, not only for families travelling with dogs, but to get an idea in general what it’s like to go to Tassie with a caravan. Looking forward to your next videos!

    It brought back so many memories of when we did a night sail to move to Hobart (from Rockhampton). Sadly, we aren’t still there but we will be watching with great interest as you take us for a walk down memory lane. Enjoy beautiful Tasmania, it is such a special place!

      Hi Jules, I'm originally from Rocky now living in Waratah Tasmania for the past 5 years. Did you leave Tasmania because you wanted to or had to. Did you find it too cold ? We get 2 metres of rain here in Waratah in winter and it drives me crazy ! 😵🤪 Going to the mainland this winter. Cheers Mark.

    We are sailing on the 11th Feb. It was good to see what happens from Geelong and the little dog park at the terminal. We also had a kennel booked but decided to keep our dog in the car. He has a crate and our voyage does not leave until 11.30 at night and this is when he goes in his crate at home, so should work well.
    Maybe we will see you on your travels. We head back home to Mooroopna April 3rd so this will be the longest we have stayed in Tassie.
    Enjoy your stay.

    This video brings back the good memories I have.
    My family and I went to Tassie in December 2019 just before the pandemic.
    We drove from Sydney to Melbourne CBD.
    Stayed one night at The Victoria Hotel.
    Took The Spirit of Tasmania the next evening from the Port of Melbourne.
    I think the brand new terminal at Geelong is much much better than the old one at Port Melbourne.
    Tassie is my kinda place (besides Canberra) ... I would love to retire there.
    I plan to go back there in the near future.

    • @Ourwhittleadventure
      @Ourwhittleadventure  Рік тому

      We don’t have the port melbourne one to compare to but the geelong terminal was pretty well layed out.
      Tassie is beautiful, we loved it down there and even considered buying down there, so much to see and do in such a small state

    Have done the trip many times with our cattle dogs and always put them in the kennels because a few dogs left in cars have died from carbon monoxide poisoning. It is a worry due to dogs going missing over the years though and yes the prices are a rip off except for the kennels. The staff are always friendly and helpful regarding dogs etc.

    • @Ourwhittleadventure
      @Ourwhittleadventure  Рік тому

      We have head that! We were put on the same deck as the kennels so their shouldn’t be any more risk of carbon monoxide inside the van vs outside in theory.
      We do have a carbon monoxide detector in the van so we would hope someone would hear it if that was the case!
      The staff were fantastic, every one of them we dealt with

  • @anne1579
    @anne1579 Рік тому +1

    We put our dogs in the kennel and they vomited. I think it was because the trucks beside them had their engines running for so long waiting to drive off that the fumes filled the space. The exhaust smell was very bad when we went to collect them.

    • @Ourwhittleadventure
      @Ourwhittleadventure  Рік тому

    We never ever put our dogs 🐕 in the kennels onboard. Always in the van, they travel. The crossing is an absolute rip-off as far as price is concerned. More so for those of us who call the island home . It soon adds up when travelling multiple times with the van. 😔

    Too many horror stories of dogs dying on the deck.
    We have two small dogs, one who is an timid oldie rescue. No way in hell I’d put him in those kennels on his own in a loud scary cage. I’d smuggle him into the cabin if I had to!!
    But we flew them across with a company that specialises in pet transport. I went across on the ferry with car, and my partner dropped them at Essendon airport the next morning and then flew to Launceston. I met the pups at Devonport airport.
    It was one hour of stress with a person in the cabin to keep them settled, as opposed to 8 hours plus of stress all alone…

    • @Ourwhittleadventure
      @Ourwhittleadventure  Рік тому

      Yes have hears of that airline service, definitely a great idea for those with dogs that won’t cope.
      I think having ours stay in the van was the best solution for us, i might set a gopro on a timelaps next time to see what they do overnight but i suggest they probably slept the whole way

      @@Ourwhittleadventure If you had a caravan it’s a no brainier to let them spend the night in familiar surroundings. We were moving to Tasmania with a normal car and trailer load of stuff - so no where to leave them. Didn’t want to send them on a commercial flight either - again too many stories of dead dogs left on the tarmac. And that would have totally freaked him out too on his own in a cage in the cargo hold of a plane!
      I was seriously getting prepared to smuggle him into the cabin in a backpack! He would have been fine.
      They need to allow dogs onto the ferry. It’s inhumane and stupid making them stay in the hold. Another backwards thing about Australia unfortunately. In Europe you can bring you dog on board with you!
