I own a musket for home defense, since that's what the founding fathers intended. Four ruffians broke into my house. "What the devil?" I said, as I grabbed my powdered wig and Kentucky rifle. Blew a golf ball sized hole through the first man, he was dead on the spot. Drew my pistol on the second man and missed him entirely because it's smoothbore and I later found out that it nailed the neighbors dog. I had to resort to the cannon mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with grape shot. "Tally ho lads!" I yelled, as the grape shot shredded two men in the blast, the sound and shrapnel set off car alarms. I mounted my trusty war horse, Charles, and charged the last terrified rapscallion. Impaling him with my standard issue 2 foot bayonet. He bled out waiting on the police to arrive since triangular bayonet wounds were impossible to stitch up. Just as the founding fathers intended.

@@WarriorofChrist612 Yes. Both bows and guns existed, *"but guns were used instead because they were loud and made your enemy run away quicker. Gotta make sure there's lots of survivors who run away so they can work your factories when you beat them lol."*
@@jimothyworldbuilding3664 This is the 1800’s. Also pretty weird response…. you just repeated your original comment and I never said bows didn’t exist, I said they weren’t used and were obsolete during the 1800’s.
@@WarriorofChrist612 and he’s saying they weren’t used too dipshit, and actually is right. France was deeply in debt and couldn’t afford top of the line weapons, instead solely using weapons they already had for the first few napoleonic wars, and they were indeed using very old musket designs that were overall less effective then the bow and arrow. But since napoleon was more focused on the conquer and conscription thing, they opted for usage of incredibly loud cannons and guns to force a surrender far faster due to sheer intimidation

it wasn't just him, it was any pirate that could afford several guns (by afford, I mean stealing). he's just famous. the navy guys probably had a couple too... but I'm not sure...
This is why they came up with some bizzare guns, with lots of barrels but pretty much dangerous for the user and impractical. Such gun is Duckfoot pistol and Nocks volley gun (7 barrels flintlock). These never widely produced, melee weapons always come into handy in boarding action. The flintlock pistols are common for boarding action, one is enough but there really no rules of how much you can carry.
People would do the same with cap and ball revolvers. Took awhile to reload the cylinder, so they'd have a bunch of pre loaded cylinders. Or they'd have more than one pistol. Love the old 1830s/80s black powder pistols
Funnily enough, this was actually one of the reasons why duels stopped being popular. They used to shoot each other and be able to go to work the next day, but when the guns got better people started dying
@@ion_force True but they were nowhere near as accurate as modern firearms. I mean this is why the tactics of lining two opposing armies durectly across a field from one another survived for so long after the invention of firearms.
Yup, most deaths in the Civil war were from dysentery and the gunshots usually weren't fatal and they died from sepsis. People don't realize how much guns sucked. That's part of the reason I always laugh when the right to bear arms is brought up. Not saying you can't own guns, but of your reason is that the guys that f**ked with guns that could barely kill said so, you really need to find another reason.
@@tinamoul Well that's half-true. I mean the lack of adequate Medical Care is a reason why a lot of men died in the Civil War but the weapons in the Civil War were all very effective. What led lot of men to their deaths during the Civil War was antiquated military strategy that didn't keep up with the technology available. You had men marching in a straight line like their forefathers did during the Revolutionary War, while being shot with the Proto versions of weapons in the first World War (Gatling guns, better artillery, repeating rifles, etc.)
Freaking hilarious and accurate. That’s why dueler’s had “best men” to load and prepare the weapons. The pistols were nearly useless at 20 paces and often took several attempts to reach resolution. That said make no mistake, when the 52 Cal. ball found its mark it was quite deadly.
Fun fact, the "best men" were actually there to make sure the other dueling party was following the rules, look for the Scottish dueling codex(I think that's what it's called) they also loaded the pistols to make sure they functioned correctly, and made terms of which the duel would be enacted upon. Real interesting stuff. Also the pistols back then were both smooth bore and rifled, so it just depended on the skill and choice of the duelists for which pistol or weapon in general they would choose
Somewhat accurate other than like what you said if you got hit by that ball your dead af. Those pack more damage than a modern bullet. But one other thing they got wrong is people never really fired at the same time. Typically one person would shoot first and then the next person would shoot. Rules were you can’t move, which is pretty obvious.
@@Dk_Thefirst I actually did check one of your skits out, nearly had my ears blown out by my headphones. Trying to figure out how to make sure your channel never gets recommended to me rn
Fun fact, they would also jam nearly 10% of the time with a small chance of backfiring. Plus you often had to custom make bullets specific to your gun because barrel sizes weren't standardized.
@@icarue993 Yeah, that was what pirates like Blackbeard did historically. Anything else wouldn't be practical - it would take too long to take pistols out of a bag during a fight, and having 6 or more holsters would make walking uncomfortable, so they just strapped loaded pistols to their chests and pulled one out whenever they wanted to shoot someone.
@@nathangamble125 Edit: i forgot to mention i am talking about Assassins Creed 4 and then comes edward who literally loads his guns in the middle of a fight in complete calmness while being stabbed by three guys and then using another guy as a shield for the other guy that is on a hous and shoots him. and then the fight can continue for the last guy that you extra reloaded your guns for because you wanted to shoot him in the head.

As someone from the firearms community, this is hilariously accurate (minus the rod getting stuck in the gun and the ball just falling to the ground). Oddly enough, if one of the duelists were wearing boiled leather, hypothetically, the ball would do that.

This is my FAVORITE skit that you've done. People are shocked that Pistol duels were commonplace and the norm nowadays. Well this is why. The end of duels actually was directly caused by the improvement of pistols, around 1880. This was also around the end of the Wild West, and where all the western movies take place. I wonder why...

Good one
the 18th century is the 1700s

They didn’t use bows in the Napoleonic wars.
Guns were used because they were loud and could destroy plate armor during the 1500’s, however this is the 1800’s where muskets have gotten way better and using bows were simply a death wish (Natives).
But since napoleon was more focused on the conquer and conscription thing, they opted for usage of incredibly loud cannons and guns to force a surrender far faster due to sheer intimidation

fun fact: this is why black beard carried so many guns, once one got wet it wouldn't shoot and he grabbed the next one.
it wasn't just him, it was any pirate that could afford several guns (by afford, I mean stealing).
he's just famous.
the navy guys probably had a couple too... but I'm not sure...

@@acidicreaver3024 LOL I’m so confused what’s going on. Is this a reference to a show?
@@SentrySeventeen This one right here officer... deserves a reward.
Freaking hilarious and accurate. That’s why dueler’s had “best men” to load and prepare the weapons. The pistols were nearly useless at 20 paces and often took several attempts to reach resolution. That said make no mistake, when the 52 Cal. ball found its mark it was quite deadly.
For real, you get hit that monster is tearing through you. Unless they're just garbage at measuring the grain
often just facing the fire was enough to satisfy honour.
Plus you often had to custom make bullets specific to your gun because barrel sizes weren't standardized.
you dont need custom made balls, lead is soft so it just need it to be around the right size and you just force it in
