Multiple listenings on my best headphones & multiple favourites, all superbly unique & beautifully played. I was drawn back to the Michel Bruck, the gorgeous dark aggressive "get out of my way I'm coming through" basses. 💪👍
A very nice video : Interesting for professionals and for lovers of beautiful master instruments ! Thanks for sharing and musical greetings from Germany.
Francisco Simplicio the best for me. All sounded great but just listen to how that final F# resonates in the final chord. None of the others guitars resonates like that. Apart from that, i like that it has a clear and brilliant tone, something i personally like.
I like that you did not shy from “pushing” a bit the Simplicio, shows that even though it’s almost a century old, it still deserves its place among today’s tops -pun intended. I honestly can’t pick a favorite, they’re all special in their own unique way😊
It took some comparison listens. And hey who wouldn’t want any one of these. But finally I choose the Müller because of two things in particular- that music box harmonic so full, like a big dollop of honey and that midrange which was so full and balanced but still had immense clarity. I feel like a lot of guitars have clarity ther but not warmth and other’s warmth and fullness but can be muddy. This had everything just right. I feel like that’s it extra special sumpin sumpin. Just beautiful.
After the second viewing, I pick the Antonius Müller, Paulinho Bernabé Sr, Francisco Simplicio and René Lacôte. They have the dream attributes of a great guitar that I like to see.
Lovely! The hardware is interesting, sure. But it's your technique and musicianship that bring their voices to life, Evan. We all know this, but I say it anyway for future generations of viewers.
I love when you do these, Evan. It makes someone who is OCD about guitars go over the edge. : ) I really like the sound of Martin Blackwell's guitar and Glenn Canin's guitar (which I was fortunate to play before he sent it to you - I remember it as being one of the best setups, too) which just seems to have both a beautiful and rich sound but also a balance that stands out. Great video.
Thanks so much, Leo! So cool that you were able to try the Canin before it went out. I agree - those two shined nicely with this comparison. Cheers and hope to meet soon.
Thanks Evan for such a wonderful collection of guitars. I subscribed. I will play this video many times to train my ears to recognize all those beautiful but sometimes subtle nuances of great guitars. 👏👏👏👏👏
Bernabe best balanced and tonally sweet. Although you play the piece lovely I prefer the first section played in the 10th position before using the open E to drop to 2nd position the change in tone is part of the contrast of the piece I feel and was the intent, playing as you do blends it nicely but I feel the contrast is part of the piece. Still a sweet piece though😉😉👍👍
I have a special place in my heart for Bernabe! But Simplicio is so majestic! And you already know I love the Bruck, despite the volume the low end is deep and has an excellent mid range presence as well.
PB is my dream guitar. But i also like Martin Blackwell. They are all great guitars. You have done a good service to world guitar community. Thank you. ❤
All wonderful instruments, sublime playing, you make them all sound like they’re the best guitars ever. I have my favorites though, the Blackwell is surprisingly wonderful compared to the monsters, the basses of the Bruck are deep and punchy, the Muller is a bit disappointing as it is the weaker ( small but singing trebles, lush basses but not enough deep). Then the Canin has it all, power and musicality ( amazing guitar). Bravo for sharing this, I will listen more times to see if I change my mind. ❤❤
Very kind of you, and I enjoy hearing your thoughts which I mostly agree with!! The Mueller however is very deep in the basses, sometimes so much so that it’s to a fault! That being said, the strings were quite old in this video. I wasn’t going to change 10 guitars’ strings at once haha!!
Great stuff, Evan! I see why you gave up your old Walter for this new one -- it's so well balanced. Steve does amazing work. Simon told me he came over for a visit and was wow'ed by the Muller....sounds pretty incredible, but don't they all??! Personally I think it would be hard not to fall in love with the sound of that Simplicio. Peace
Thanks so much, Dave! Yeah Simon loved the Müller! It sure does it’s job a seducing! The Simplicio sound and smell take you to another time, it’s magical
The Blackwell stood out for me because of its sustain and harmonics. Tuning in the upper frets were a bit sour Seems to be a faulty string . Fairly common. Nice video, sound quality, and fine playing. Well done.
Wonderful video Evan, as always, and your reviews help illuminate the wondrous subtleties that differentiate the various instruments. I was particularly interested in your review of the Blackwell doubletop, as Martin is building one for me this year. Thanks for sharing your artistry with us. Warm regards, Mark
The first few bars on the Woodfield won my heart! While all guitars have that "singing treble", I thought the Woodfield sounds best to my ears in the upper registers, and excellent on the rest! I did not read the guitar description until the end, was surprised to learn it is lattice-braced. As for the Rene Lacote - my only experience with this 19th century, smaller body guitar is an Altamira Sor II, I really like the bass, which is very close to current guitars. However, the treble could have been better, as it has a hint of boxy sound? The Altamira Sor II sound is kind of the opposite, I love its treble - which to me seems better than that in some of my other classical guitars. However, its bass exhibits hints of boxy sound?! Out of curiosity, what kind of strings being used in this Lacote? Mine is strung with NT Savarez Cantiga, if I recall the exact model. Thanks for an incredible playing on 10 incredible guitars, great performance! Now I wonder if you can pick a few low-budget guitars for beginners for another comparison? 👍
Lacote and Simplicio. I really don't get how so much people feel like the double tops have some qualities of sound. To me they sound all hollow, midi..
No real reason - these are the guitars I have right now and I thought it would be interesting. I do buy and sell, but most of these are not for sale :)
Two takeaways I have 1. It's astonishing how many amazing luthiers there are these days besides big names like Ramirez, Bernabe, Berg, Redgate, Smallman, Hauser, etc. 2. I have to learn this piece 😂
They're incredible guitars. I hate to say it but the Wagner wins this round...my condolences to your left hand. The Mueller was a close second. #controversial
@@evantaucher Bose 700 noise cancelling headphones... I'm sure results may vary with different output! The Bruck is very similar to the Wagner, but with slightly less depth. I would've given the Bruck second place, but I felt that your style of playing really suites the sound of the Mueller.

I do not know these names but Glenn Canin for the win on bass clarity.
❤🔥
Thank you, Audio janitor! Love the name

I love your description! I love the food references, too!
@@evantaucher haha. Everything is food.
Just listening without looking at which guitar is being played, the Bernabe sounds really nice. I'd take the Simplicio though just because.

Philip Woodfield - The sound is full and beautiful, at one moment it was like hearing a piano and guitar at the same time. Very beautiful. CHeers

Awesome video ! So jealous of how many guitars you have and are able to get to know haha
Thanks John - it’s one guitar at a time then all of a sudden it’s spirals out of control haha
Amazing work you have done, and it is realy wonderful!!

Great video and playing👏. The Antonius Müller sounded heavenly!
Thanks a lot!
Love both Walter and Canin guitars in the video. I was hoping to hear the Lissarrague as well😁

Mark, thanks for the kind words and congrats on the new “baby” due soon
To my brain the Martin Blackwell is the clear winner of tone and resonance

Martin Blackwell 2017
Perfect piece for comparing Evan as it showcases all registers and short enough to keep your ears and brain focused. Blackwell is best IMO.
Thanks Jim!!
Bernabe i think...i suspect this wonderful guitarist could make a plywood guitar sound very good.
Glenn Canin but id be happy with any of course 🙏🏼
Lacote and woodfield
The music started when played Simplicio.
Lacote and Simplicio.
I really don't get how so much people feel like the double tops have some qualities of sound. To me they sound all hollow, midi..
To each their own!
If you could keep one...other than the Walter, what would it be?
Blackwell sounded supreme.
I thought the René Lacote suited the mood and period of the piece best of all.
Slick!
Thanks bud!
How and why did your choose these particular guitars to compare? Do you sell guitars?
No real reason - these are the guitars I have right now and I thought it would be interesting. I do buy and sell, but most of these are not for sale :)
I closed my eyes and Wagner and Simplicio.
Muller and Simplicio for me
Thanks Phill!
Are they all the same strings? Beautifully played BTW
That Simplicio...otherwordly
Lacoté and lower pitch !!!!

Very high YES on the Simplicio and probably the Walter. Resounding NO on the Blackwell, Bruck, Canin, Wagner and the Mueller. Just not musical at all.
