    I hate a chassis that has no head room or your sitting on the ground. The most important series of videos you can watch when building your car here ! Listen to this man and plan ahead.

    I enjoy your posts. You take the time to say how to accomplish your task but you go the extra mile to explain why you need to do things the way you teach. Great job.

    Had a crash in August rolled twelve times. Maybe more I flipped into the woods. I was driving a car I hadn't been in and had so much room. Im 6'2''. It was a 55 chevy and I had at least 10'' above my head to top of cage. During the run I went into severe tire shake and got out then back in it [ dumb] But that's no prep racing. Car was going straight till the rear broke in the 3rd member sending me into a 180 before I even knew what happened I was in the guardrail rolling . The amount of g force I felt before the lights went out. I broke a brand new pyrotec carbon fiber helmet. It was cracked in 5 places o the crown of helmet. Before I made the pass I pulled the belts as tight as humanly possible. Somehow during the roll my head hit the top of cage knocking me out for 8 hours. My head was 10'' away from top of cage. I can honestly say without a doubt if I was in my camaro where my head is nearly against the roof id be dead. My entire outlook on the seat and cockpit has changed. Take it very seriously. Beef up the seat mounts as well . The seat mounts broke under my ass but not at my shoulders. It was a moly car built by a great builder not you but a common one . The car saved my life and I thank god every day. My suggestion is padding and containment. No carbon fiber seats at all. Ive been researching Nascar style seats and how they keep the driver contained . I was fortunate hope my crash and this little write up helps and paints a picture.

      Part of the reason Nascar is using the custom molded carbon Kevlar seats that cost $20,000 is for impact absorption from other cars. Before they went to those most drivers used The Joie of Seating. They make, in my opinion, the absolute nicest full containment aluminum seats on the market.

    As grumpy as you seem to be there is a damn good reason for it. You really care about what you put into the cars you build and you want to keep people safe. You are 100% the type of guy I'd set down with and drink some Bourbon and have a chat. 10lbs of shit crammed into a 5lb bag. I about fell out my chair and spilled my drink.

    This is so important and true.
    I'm 5' 11 with short legs and my head would rub the top of my friends ChevyCavalier and I could stick the top of my head out of a Chevy HHR with the sun roof open yet I'm certainly not a tall person.
    Thank Heaven today's cars have higher roof lines.

    My word, I have never seen a DoAll saw that big. I've only had the experience of using one when I was in the MD. ANG and it was half the size. Those are fabulous metal cutting saws. Great video.

    do me a favor and mention for the guys that are doing the work for themselves that the steering should be done before the headers, etc., don't build the headers then fit in the steering. I have had RACE cars come to my shop with 5 u-joints in the steering shaft, never mind the street cars. Never mind that the steering geometry is all wrong, and that the parts were made either for an Abrams Tank or a sewing machine. Thanks for all the help. Great job.

    great video Tim and all said is spot on.
    A more comfortable rider or driver will go faster than the same care where they are not.
    when i was doing these things we build the car then make the owner /driver comfortable and fit correctly.
    you cant do that you ain't done it right.

    Should the drivers head be tucked in the funny car hoop area ?? Some cars I see people’s shoulders even with the cage and they are not tucked back in the hoop

    It's ridiculous how many people you see in the most effed up positions in their cars. You'll also see drivers that have some of the best safety equipment and the most of it you can buy but are jammed in the car where it's not going to make a damn bit of difference. I really like that you go the extra mile and explaining why people should do this, you don't know till you know but there are people that know better...and hopefully they make changes before they become confined to a chair OUTSIDE of a race car.

    why not position the driver more like a single seater with a more reclined position

    • @ratmousebastard
      @ratmousebastard 4 роки тому

      reclined seating position, that would work well in say a road racing setup, is just not the position you want to be in for drag racing... you want more of an upright position
