Why is July 4th so important?
We celebrate American Independence Day on the Fourth of July every year.
On July 4th, the Continental Congress formally adopted the Declaration of Independence, which had been written largely by Jefferson. While fireworks may seem like a very American tradition, especially on the Fourth of July, their origins go back centuries before the first Independence Day fireworks display in Philadelphia in 1777.
Though the vote for actual independence took place on July 2nd, from then on the 4th became the day that was celebrated as the birth of American independence.
We celebrate July 4, 1776, as a day that represents the Declaration of Independence. The birth of the United States of America as an independent nation.
John Adams, in his writings, even noted that July 2 would be remembered in the annals of American history and would be marked with fireworks and celebrations.
