I'm a Bamburgh member and had a chat with Matt before he went out. We play twice a week and every time is a treat. Rated as the easiest course in Northumberland I can assure you it will provide a challenge and a warm welcome. Matt played off forward winter tees and some of the holes are much better from the white tees. Come along, you'll love it.
It's been interesting reading the comments. For me between £25-40 would be my price point for an 18 hole round. Anything more than that I couldn't really justify for a round of golf unless it's a special occasion or a one off. £70 I view as an expensive round of golf!
Playing there in August on the way up to North Berwick, the guys are so helpful when booking, got a lovely package of bacon/sausage cob on arrival and pizza/burger after round. Can't wait.
I love it when UA-camrs go to these less vaunted seaside courses. They're so often much more interesting than the well known ones. It's why the Golf Mates Hidden Gems series are so much more watchable than, say, Finch's current one of yawn monsters in the US.
First; Grateful for this series as I called for this. For me, who lives in Sweden and is looking forward to a golf trip to GB for golf, green fee prices are essential to budget. But I also have to say, as a follower for several years, Matt is a really good golfer! Often you play in difficult conditions, often you hit shots that may not be perfect, but very rarely the score gets out of hand. You're always around the par of the course and it's very impressive! Awesome golfer!
I really like this new series! Good to see some beautiful courses and know that there are some affordable courses out there! Keep up the good work Matt!
Very lucky to live in the north east next to so many top links courses, goswick, dunstanburgh, bamburgh, seahouses, Alnmouth village, warkworth and newbiggin all worth a visit 👍👍
I have played this so many times, my father was a member for many years. One of the prettiest courses you will find in England and still one of my favourites. All 6 of the par 3s are completely different ranging from the completely evil (6th) to the stunningly designed 8th - not surprised at Matt's score, as long as there is some wind the course will always win. Just one peeve with the video - you mispronounced Bamburgh every time!! Hope you play Dunstanburgh Castle next. Although Bamburgh Castle is better know I think Dunstanburgh is the better course But if you really want a budget course in Northumberland look no further than Alnmouth Village, one of the oldest in England and totally bonkers, but 9 holes only
A budget golf course to me is somewhere you can afford to pay the green fee every week. £75 quid a week £300 a month is not budget. It’s budget in comparison to the more esteemed links courses I grant you!
Great course I like the premise and delivery in my part of Canada fees range from 33 dollars for 18 at a shorter 4390 to more traditional layout of 50 or 60 per golfer with cart on full size well appointed layouts. We also have Cabot Cliffs at 550 walking plus caddie Highland Links at 125 .
Love this series so far and I'm excited to see where else you play. If you travel to the Yorkshire coast there are loads of courses that would be perfect for the series. 2 in Scarborough, 2 in Bridlington and then at Filey and Flamborough in between. Then further down you've got Hornsea. And a bonus one in between is Far Grange at Skipsea. On Golf Now you can get hot deals for less than £15 for a full 18 holes and it's as good as all the other courses on the coast
Get a game at dunstanburgh aswell if you can views of the castle are tremendous, goswick golf club another beauty in Northumberland. Very lucky to live near by and play them all semi regularly. Enjoy
Great test of golf. Dunstanburgh Castle is certainly up there. North East coast is a golfers heaven but also great parkland clubs such as Tyneside and Close House to name a few.
@@jamesp098 Wouldn’t touch close house for the £200 a round. Parkland wise, definately Tyneside, great course. Whickham is great in the summer, Northumberland GC (inside the race course), Branspeth, Prudhoe, Slaley Hall, Matfen. Loads of decent courses up here. Just don’t count on the weather 🤦🏻♂️
@@jamesp098 depends where you are in the area too. I’m in NE28 and a 15 minute drive down the A19 is Sharpley GC, just oast Sunderland. Cracking course for a good price. I’d recommend Whitley Bay too once dry. Tynemouth is also great. Further afield, Dunstanburgh, Alnmouth Village, Foxton, Newbiggin are all great links courses. Linden Hall and Longhirst (both courses) once dry are gorgeous too. ⛳️
A really nice course I would highly recommend is Cape Cornwall golf club. Spectacular views. If i remember rightly £55 for round of 18 holes and buggy!
If you find yourself in the West Country with Andy Carter, the Burnham and Berrow Channel course easily meets the criteria. Very challenging, well maintained, only 9 holes but with 2 very different sets of tees playing different distances and with different angles.
Nice little hidden gem of a golf course! And 4 over isn't bad, considering you were fighting your swing throughout. Hit some nice pitches & chips, Matthew.👍 Enjoying this new series!👌
Try Belton Park in Grantham Matt! In the wider national trust grounds of Belton House with herds of deer roaming the course. Only £60 quid midweek and a summer 4ball offer of £220 - well worth a look.
Being a Newcastle lad i try and get to Bamburgh every year as i love it. You were unlucky to get a Northernly wind as it makes the course very tricky Matt.
Liking this Matt! Did you know Holy Island did have a golf course designed by James Braid but it’s now gone. Check out The Lost Links by the guys at Links Diary. There are so many good tracks up and down the coastline in Northumberland and Durham which are not given the credit they deserve! Goswick and Seaton Carew are the marquee tracks to play👍
I've walked a few holes but never got the chance to play it. You make some of those holes look easy but from where I was looking my heart was pumping and my clubs were two hundred miles away 😂😂❤❤
Great idea, Matt. However £75 is a bit of a stretch. Most amateurs would consider up to £40 for regular play but if we're talking one offs then we will pay more…
Agreed. I would have thought budget would be in the lines of £25. From my experience as a golfer based in Ireland there are lots of courses in Ireland which are under the €50 mark and some are lovely courses. When you get to €50-€75 you are looking at between mid and high range. Up to €100 is some of the bigger courses, and then the elite courses (popular with international tourists in Summer) are around €250-€300.
Great series Matt, everyone is bound to have differing definitions of ‘budget’. £70 would be out of my price range I must say. I think sub £40 is budget for me. I might just be tight though. I’ll definitely have a round there with being from the area though.
Played this a few times while on holiday in this wonderful part of the UK. It is indeed a nice track with some great views, and well worth checking out. But I do wonder about the future of courses like this in this price bracket. 70 notes is not really budget, but it's also not really a must-play course. So might these courses fall in the middle and lose out a bit. I think I paid around 40 quid when I always played it, and 70 quid does seem at the top end of what you could charge.
I can't believe you consider £75 to be a budget round of golf. Obviously golf is very expensive in the UK as that would be $145 here in Oz. Personally I don't think having a view of a castle would add to the value of a round of golf, but then I've never been to Britain. Looks a very good course Matt and the weather conditions appear trying. Great series as always and I love your channel.
@@IverKnackerov I don't have to live there nor even have visited to know that $A145 is an expensive round. It may not be for those of you who live there but here in Australia that's expensive.

Great series Matt and crew! Loved the scenery Matt and the golf. Hopefully by the 100th golf course you play you won’t be playing in gale force winds!!! Hopefully you can find some in the 40 to 50 euro range. I think that’s more budget. I’m in the states so do any of the courses have early bird rates or twilight rates? That’s where I find most of my budget courses that don’t kill my wallet. Cheers!
Thanks for watching Joe. Twilight fees are a great way of getting cheaper rounds, you can actually play this course for just £40 after 4pm which is a bargain in my opinion
