Guys did you catch the twist at the end? Jenny and screech were twins. Violet was their mother. Died due to violence. They were born after violence and died from violence. Obviously seperate at birth in forster care and didn't he was robbing his own sister
It's 100% Bardcore! You can't tell me he wasn't some old man traveling town to town telling stories on his guitar for free room/board, drinks and food! He was a bard in the last life and he's a modern day bard now! Listen to the opening of Violets tale and it sounds like 'ye old tavern' music. This guy is CRAZY talented and deserves every view he gets!
Yay for you! Such a perfect description of Our Ailing Messiah... I envision him, on a horse, in the drizzle and fog, carrying his guitar at the Low Ready, full trigger discipline in effect but ready, guiding completely with his knees, the majestic animal walking slowly through a silent, sullen barrenscape, his hospital gown the most brightly colored thing in the whole scene, flapping gently on his calves, grippy socks doing their thing... When I think about how he's suffered, what he's overcome to bring us his disease addled genius brain-babies, I feel like Imma tear up, it almost physically HURTS. I feel such gratitude and joy and gut- wrenching empathy through his lyrics, telling us how bad it hurts, the joy he feels, his desperation, his Knowing, somehow, it'll work... Is this what religious people feel when they think about haysoos? I'm genuinely asking, I wasn't raised in that, my parents weren't cut out for the job, I've never felt this way about another human. It's not romantic love, it's more than devotion, it's... Wanting to be better so that if I ever get the chance to meet the guy I want to be able to say, "you inspired me-look what I did!". It's feeling motivated, when no one else could do it. I'm confused by how much I am affected by this man's music, I'm 49, and this hasn't happened since I was 11 and heard my first bit of The Cure. I really thought I was past this puberty-level of adoration of anyone!
I'm glad someone else noticed he doesn't always resolve in his guitar playing. If you noticed in Hi Ren he did the same thing. He ended without resolving to the root, which signals "this is not over." Then he did his monologue. Ren isn't just doing bold things. He's doing very subtle things, as well. He even does some clever throwbacks to his favorite artists.
Glad you noticed that too. I love how a diminished chords leaves you in that moment .. waiting for it to resolve with the next note, and Ren does a great job leaving us in that state of mind waiting for what is to come next.
I enjoyed your reaction, but I’m not sure if you realized Violet was Jenny and Screech’s mom. It’s a story of generational trauma. Screech took on their father Stevie’s violence and rage. Jenny was quiet and still like their mom, Violet. She was a streetwalker at 14 and had been for some time. Screech killed his sister, and they were both born and died on the same days, side by side. It’s an epic mind f*ck.
You're barking up the wrong tree. These two giggled like fools when they found out Jenny was getting mugged... as if it was a punch line to a joke. Pretty sure the bitter irony of the tale was lost on them. They perceived this on a Jerry Springer level, not a Shakespearean level.
Ren, is a busker. You hit the nail on the head when you said he reminds you of a street performer. That is what a busker is. Also a couple things you should pay attention to is how many of his videos are one take. No cuts, no auto tune, just him and the camera, the acoustics of the room or street, his guitar, a mic and an amazing talent.
I love that homie drops a bit of music theory here and there! 👌 Good observations man.. his triplet game IS on point (any flow really) but I like that you noticed how he often uses chords that will create tension instead of letting them resolve 👌 Good reacting!
I absolutely agree! It's what made me sub and watch their content. My bro on the left has picked up on things in a few ren tracks now that are legit music theory and other reactors are missing, he seems quite diverse in thought, he even picked up on "sick boi" that the colours of the smoke that he uses match aviation orientation, he has a wide knowledge set it seems, i want to see them do more of Ren... it's nice, it's breaking the concept that a bro smoking bud "can't be intelligent or have a wide range of skill sets", he's great. Guys great reaction. Not sure you completely understood the whole story. I agree...you never know what you're going to get with Ren. I heard you mention the Beastie Boys, What you Want is a great homage to them. But you can't go wrong whatever you do next...subbed in anticipation 😊
I think everyone has explained the connection of the 3 tales. You spoke about singing on the streets. Exactly how Ren got started. They call it busking. Ren and his band, The Big Push, would sing on the streets. I'll find a link and send it. Also, his latest drop, "Illest of our time," is a definite check. Enjoyed the reaction ❤ ✌️
Hey guys, really loving your reaction and conversation - it's very engaging and I appreciate your take on things! It seemed that maybe you missed the significance of the ending of how all 3 stories come together, as others have mentioned. It's what makes this Trilogy an 11 out of 10 for me! Super exited to see you guys go on this journey with Ren and his fans! To see other sides of Ren - try his former band the Big Push covers mashups - I shot the Sheriff/road to Zion/Hip Hop is what most people react to next. My personal favorite is Wade in the Water/Trouble so Hard cover - live busking with the Big Push or Blind Eyed with Sam Tompkins, live MC Sessions - sooo good!! Thanks again! Edit: also, there are many things easy to miss on the first listen - Tales of Jenny and Screech came out in 2019 (he mentions Screech is 14 years old.) He starts Violet's Tale with "London City far from pretty, 2005" then rewinds the time to her childhood. After Stevie beats her up, Ren plays the same cords forward bringing us to 2005 when Violet dies and gives birth to the twins - Jenny and Screech - who are born on the same day and die on the same day. Shakespearean tragedy, no? Separated at birth and put through the system, never met until one night on the street. Screech is like father - violent and angry. Jenny is like Violet - if you listen to the description he gives her in Jenny's tale. He really made it so succinct and tight. I only appreciated the nuances on repeat listens and of course other people's takes on it.
Thanks for the reaction, I think you are just starting to get Ren! So many more surprises to come 😂😅 Ren started out ‘busking’ which is street performing in the UK… you should do ‘i shot the sheriff/road to Zion/hip hop’ next to see music flowing through his veins 😊 but I think you’ll like sick boi, Genesis, losing it, money game 1&2.. there is so much material and all worth doing. That’s why he’s blowing up finally, as you said, he’s ‘different’ this is music to get you thinking, it’s deep, all the tracks are different, it’s fascinating 😮 more please 🙏🏼
Excuse me Sirs, you glazed over that way too fast. I think you may have to go back and listen to it again it seems like you missed how the three songs connect to each other. Violet gave birth to twins. A girl named Jenny and a boy named Screech. Then Violet died from being beat by Sammy. So it is fair to say that the the babies went into the system and were separated. They didn't know each other I grew up in the same town and when they were 14 they ran into each other on the street not knowing that they were Twins and Screech killed his own sister. Just like their dad killed their mother. Screech was like his dad, violent, abusive and a murderer. Jenny was like her mother Frozen like a statue. They died one street apart on the same night and they laid side-by-side when they were born. Go back and re-watch it! Your mind should have been blown
Dudes a true poet and I’m with you guys his originality and artistry is amazing. I’ve been on a Ren kick since finding HI REN. All his music is deep it has messages and it’s his. No one does anything like him. I hope he tours America I’d love to see his live performances!
If I could call Ren anything, I'd call him a modern day bard. Telling stories through music in a way that's so engaging I've seen people forget they're doing a reaction videos. His creativity is something ELSE I love his art man. Thank you for acknowledging his genius lol
I belive Ren comes up with the video concepts, he makes most of his own beats and produces and masters most of his music. He works with Samuel alot who shot theses 3 and Hi Ren among a number of others. Samuel usually takes Rens concept and they work together to get what fits the music/message. He is independent so I think he re uses props and wears his normal every day cloths as like you say music can speak for itself and does not need all chains etc. Also it practical and financially logical.
It is based on a real news story that he has read. Then he made up Violet's tale 2 years later. Next stops: Chalk outlines with Chinca, I shot the sheriff & Bongo bong with the Big Push.
I've seen a few of your reactions now and I have to say I appreciate your open mind when it comes to music. It's great to see people who appreciate music for its own sake rather than get stuck in genres.
Good reaction my guys .......Ren makes the best reactions and so glad you think he's on his own journey . Creative and positive reaction ...100% props ...peace to you for this great reaction ;)
He is like a medieval minstrel brought up to date. Masterpiece. Jenny and Screeches tales was prompted by a story in the paper and people saying what a shame but nothing is ever done. It was nearly 2 years before he released Violets tale which completed the tale. When asked what style of music he called it Bardcore. Welsh born there is a traditional poetry competion for the bards chair.
Playing chords to resolve... well done, not many folk have mentioned that. At the end of Hi Ren too.. Left ya hanging then went to a spoken word ending. Well done. Great react.
Loving both of your reaction guy's! When you listen to Rens music you need to focus otherwise you miss certain stuff like the twist at the end violet was the mother of jenny and screetch. Another tip when it says Retake it meas the music is a cover with him rapping or singing to other artist music. Plus if it says Ren X the X means featuring. He produces all his own music and collaborates in the videos with Sam his videographer which you will see him in the power video driving. Last but not least Ren has a band where they busk on the streets of A seaside town of Brighton England they are super talented the first song I'll recommend is I shot the Sheriff/Road to zion/ Hip Hop fans favorite. Thanks guy's.
Ren's wordplay in this song particular is very poetic. I love the language used with the metaphors and similes. Great reaction guys. I subbed a couple weeks ago and have really enjoyed the channel.
Yet a another fascinating reaction from you Guys 👏 There’s still so much more from Ren. Try “I shot the sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop” Ren busking(street performance) outside with his band the big push. Nice work Guys!
Dude you nailed it with the comment on his chord progression choices lol...he has really made me look at guitar in a whole new light? Its very refreshing.
Ren is schizophrenic so that’s what hi ren is about a battle between him and the voice in his head and he is in a hospital In violets tale to show she was in a hospital and the way I recommend you watch is violet’s tale, Jenny’s tale, screeches tale and finally London city
Your Ren world is just beginning! He makes his own beats, and his videos are just him and whatever friends he can rope into helping for the day. While I don’t want to assume anything about him, I imagine Lyme disease and the treatments are expensive and more crucial than any watch, chain, etc.But I enjoy watching your reactions thus far! Thank you and cheers!
I can't tell you how many reactions of this trilogy I've seen, and you guys are the FIRST to pick up that he's singing to Screech's dying face. Well done!
I am 68yo man Like rap and rock this is different, it's ART start to finish. NEW ART. like a movie and he's the actor, a musical where he's the musician, A story teller where's he's the Author. I see meaning in almost everything from objects to locations. BRAVO, BRAVO Ren !!
Rated 8 & 9. Can I ask, where did he lose points? What could he of done better to get a 10? Personally I think it was a 10. The guitaring, singing, lyrics, camera work, and storytelling was insanely good. Kept me captivated the whole time and the twist at the end was a mind blow. You boy''s are hard critics. Can you suggest something I should watch that you consider a 10 please, cause if this is rated an 8, whatever you suggest is gonna blow my mind.
Can't speak for them. But many consider 10 like a platonic ideal. Something that doesn't exist in the real world. Much like the word "perfect". More a standard to hold things up against.
Some of us call artists like this's genre "Bardcore". He's a bard to his very core. There's a core of Bard-Assery. Bardcore. And we love it. Long Live Mr Ren Gill!
Ren is his own genre which we desperately need in this world right now with so many artists coming out with “new” music that’s just “sampling” previous music! I believe he’s the start of an entire new generation of musicians
I love the contrast that y'all bring to each other. The technicalities from your different worlds of expertise. Also asking y'all to check out EZ Mil Panalo and IDK. FYI IDK is already a bar for I Don't Know and In Da Kitchen. If you like bars y'all need to check out IDK.
Look there! it's a plane? a bird? a man in a cape? naah, just the whole meaning of a 13 min trilogy musical piece that went flying over their heads.Well, at least you enjoyed the music ^^U
ren is art personified, he just released a new one but don't know how it would work with trigger warnings but it is stunning. It's called s*icide, and it is ROUGH. You can tell this man puts his whole heart into everything he does. ♡
okay, you're true music listener and a well verse fan of genres..cool man! because some people they like to stick to one genre, especially people coming from rock and metal.. and i like the fact that you understand every point Ren's making in the videos, unlike other reactor (a lot of them but not all) they just sit there and watch and not getting the point..anyways, great reaction man! I dont know about you, but to for me next video you react should be Money Game Part 1 & Part 2..
New sub, just came from Hi Ren ❤ I just wanted to say how much I enjoy your input and how much you really understand the lyrics and the music theory things going on. Except I see in some of the comments that you may not have realized initially that the twins aligned side by side were Jenny amd Screech, and Violet was their mom. But I also enjoy watching you smoke 😂 As I am, as well 🌬️🍃😊
You get a street performance feeling, because Ren is a busker (U.K. street performer). Check out Ren with his band The Big Push covering “I shot the sheriff/road to Zion/hip hop” Ren calls his genre Bardcore. He really is a modern day bard.
You guys are on such an amazing Ren Journey! The Hunger A MUST! Chalk outlines A MUST! Money game part l and ll A HUGE MUST!!! Genesis A MUST! Sick Boi A MUST! Illest, shit the bed, I could go on n on! Looking forward to watching you enjoy Ren 😉 He's ace!
Ren got Lyme Disease and battling hard with it moving ti Canada for treatment after being missed Diagnosed twice. Ren is the 🐐! Pure talent. Ren does street preform on london streets. Crazy
creative love this statement! he says one thing is his interview! i love to bring ppl together with music but i think what he really ment is he brings all music into one!
Ren loves performing to an audience - He was signed by Sony after he was diacovered 'Busking' on the streets of Brighton, but he became to unwell from the Lyme Disease that was debilitating his mind and body so the contract was cancelled. He wrote much of his best work in the years that he spent bed ridden in chronic pain with psychosis. He's said that he cant wait to get back to the stage and nisses playing with his mates from the Big Push. I think Ren would still perform on the streets for the people when he's really big. He's humble and genuine ❤
Fucking great point about eliminating the materialistic element to so many of his videos. Idk why but that never hit me even though it’s almost a theme of his now that you say it
Possibly due to the British accent, you might not have followed the full story? Jenny's tale: Jenny was a young prostitute. Screech was a kid who was high. Screech tries to mug Jenny and ends up stabbing her to death. Screetch's tale: Screech knows he's messed up. His mate is not answering. His girlfriend is busy. He has nowhere to go. When the cop comes up to him he decides to fight and gets shot 4 times. Violet's tale: flashback to 2005. Violet was abused by her step-father, mother was a drinker. Left home at 16, got in a relationship and repeated the pattern with a violent man. He beats her unconscious one night. She dies in hospital. But before she died, they were able to save the twins she was expecting. Plot twist: the babies were Jenny and Screetch. Unknown to each other, they were brother and sister. They both died the same night, after Screetch killed Jenny.
“He’s singing to the body, that’s dark.” I’ve seen this a thousand times and this never occurred to me. Forget anyone throwing shade about the end. It’s not easy to catch the twist the first time, especially for real musicians who are listening for other things.
Ren has self identified his music as Bardcore. Bards where the street musicians from Greek times right up to the1800s.They were performed in the forums then mead halls then the Inns and Pubs and then the Theatres with sand and straw on the floor. Their singles were the printed hand bills with the lyrics and the Chords on them, or simply a not of the lyrics to be sung to a well known tune. That is where the Song House of the Rising Sun came from. The story is a modern musical version of a Shakespearian Three Act Play.
I know this old, but from an black woman. Life is too short, to not listen to what you like. i fell in love with the Hu and with Ren and friends and sklad, because they are amazing .Great way of looking at life and great reactions.
I'm no "magician" but I get my bro on the left, I love music. You are both a good fit for this, just don't let my homie on the left go, he's bringing something deeper to these reactions I love ✊️
You guys MUST see his older stuff! Ocean, Humble, Life is Funny and Crucify your Culture! They're NOT videos... they're lyrical videos! Also... MUST SEE Fatboy Slim one shot retake... Right Here, Right Now!!!
He does his videos with his friend Samuel, so far only his friends are in his videos and just casual wear, nothing fancy. Also he is a street performer, is funny you mentioned the ppl performing in the NY underground :D
People cut themselves off from so much deep joy when they are too cool to try something that's out of their usual wheelhouse. I was brought up on country and dixieland jazz. I listen to blues, jazz, classical, opera, rap, flamenco, zydeco, klezmer, I could go on... Some of it took flipping around til I found the one song in a genre that moved me and worked outward from that... Mama's cooking is home food, but you gotta try something from that food cart down the street. You can tell Ren listens to everything. Its all in there.
Fellas, Ren is purr talent, do yourselves the favor and dive into his catalog; "Money Game, part 1 & 2" "Losing it" "Sick Boi" "What You Want"(homage to the Beastie boys) "Genesis"
Interestingly, you mentioned street musicians or subway station musicians. Ren was one of those guys - they're called "Buskers" in the UK. It's also a word we use in the States, but not too often.
I’m just like ren… all my videos are one take… I never watch anything before I react to it…I want to capture my energy when I first hear it…sorry not sorry!!!
That is such a classical music rewind at 22.00....Beethoven, Mozart all used it.......the concept is to get you back in time.....................rewind
Ren is just educated. He reads obviously a lot and that explains the richness of his speech, his metaphors and similes. Someone who"s not minimally educated cannot grasp that.

Loving you Ren reactions but you fellas still have a very very long way down the Ren rabbit hole - and he will continue to amaze and surprise you !!!
Ren will entertain you, move you, and enlighten you. He will break your heart and make you move your butt. Love how ya'll are vibing to this. Peace
Dudes a true poet and I’m with you guys his originality and artistry is amazing. I’ve been on a Ren kick since finding HI REN. All his music is deep it has messages and it’s his. No one does anything like him. I hope he tours America I’d love to see his live performances!
"Losing it" is an awesome song/cover by Ren, it brings his rapping to lvl 11 ❤
You gotta love it being live and unedited.
love that you guys were having so much fun....thank you and Ren is amazing
And props Samuel. He's not only doing a great job of filming these, but he's doing it whilst walking backwards!
I think Of Ren as a musical Chef. He takes lots of ingredients and makes something beautiful. He's his own Genre
Just wait until you hit his I shot the sheriff medley with his busking band ( street performers) The Big Push. The one where he has on suspenders
Guys, you are really worth listening to. It's a real pleasure to hear Ren again in your company.
This song is a story. Ren is a story teller. Probably the only one in this era
It’s amazing that both of yall can have a conversation just like that. That’s why I respect your channel it’s bad ass thank you much love
He’s an actual street performer. He’s got lots of videos performing on the streets. Definitely check them out.
Loving the ren reactions guys 💎💨 love from the uk
Look forward to more 🫡
Ren is a street performer, Busker. Thank you for your reactions.
Ren hands down has the BEST CAMERAMEN
All the 3 song are recorded live. You can see the mic on his shirt
Thank you and cheers!
ren is the definition is of on another level
the fact he can be someone to do so many generas is crazy this man is insane
I can't tell you how many reactions of this trilogy I've seen, and you guys are the FIRST to pick up that he's singing to Screech's dying face. Well done!
good job guys. I like how you are open to all genres, not stuck in a one trick pony show
100 point to the guy who said the chord he play at the end doesn't resolve. My man knows his theory with that comment.
These three videos are one take, no edits, with live music recording. Hi ren was also recorded live.
Thank you
I think you said it best... you both bring a different perspective/knowledge to yor reaction channel. I love it!! You guys are sure to Grow Bigtime.
Look there! it's a plane? a bird? a man in a cape? naah, just the whole meaning of a 13 min trilogy musical piece that went flying over their heads.Well, at least you enjoyed the music ^^U
His genre is BARDCORE!!!
Y’all are a good duo, each bringing your own perspective. I appreciate the differences you bring to the conversation.
Also, his genre: Bardcore.
Im pretty sure he does all if not most the treatment for the videos. He writes all his songs. And makes the beats. He IS a fuckin genious!
ren is art personified, he just released a new one but don't know how it would work with trigger warnings but it is stunning.
Ren is literally the modern day Bard
Thanks for doing this one, great reaction, can’t wait to see which one you guys do next.
But I also enjoy watching you smoke 😂 As I am, as well 🌬️🍃😊
The juxtaposition between y'all is cool. Not everybody has to understand everything, and that's okay, but understanding still has value.
You get a street performance feeling, because Ren is a busker (U.K. street performer). Check out Ren with his band The Big Push covering “I shot the sheriff/road to Zion/hip hop”
Ren calls his genre Bardcore.
Looking forward to watching you enjoy Ren 😉
He's ace!
He does it ALL!! LITERALLY! HE IS A GENIUS❤ and usually live in 1 take... INCREDIBLE
Ren got Lyme Disease and battling hard with it moving ti Canada for treatment after being missed Diagnosed twice. Ren is the 🐐! Pure talent.
Ren does street preform on london streets. Crazy
I went from knox to you guys. You have real reactions and you see like artist. You have opinions. You go back to what you felt before and seen before
Thank u
I loved your commend about the lack of diamonds, cars and stuff
I catagorize him as a Bard. He reminds me of the old bards that would sing stories of Heroes' adventures.
creative love this statement! he says one thing is his interview! i love to bring ppl together with music but i think what he really ment is he brings all music into one!
Idk why but that never hit me even though it’s almost a theme of his now that you say it
And it’s reflected in his music as well, it’s him and a guitar or him and a beat. Bare bones the whole way down
Thank u
In Screechs tale, it was only Screech who he was singing as. All aspects of that were him as the one person
Great reaction, I really enjoyed your show thank you
Possibly due to the British accent, you might not have followed the full story?
I love the exploration I'll watch as long as he chooses to perform
Yes he writes the treatments. He's the writer, director, producer, everything. He would probably be the camera man if he could.
Fellas, Ren is purr talent, do yourselves the favor and dive into his catalog;
"Money Game, part 1 & 2"
"Losing it"
"Sick Boi"
"What You Want"(homage to the Beastie boys)
"Genesis"
Thank you so much for showing the world Ren 🙌🏻
You need to check out some of his Street busking on the streets of Brighton check out I Shot the Sheriff Road to Zion & Hip Hop combo
Bro Ur my new favourite reaction just subscribed Ur 🔥🔥🔥💯💯 love from Scotland
Interestingly, you mentioned street musicians or subway station musicians. Ren was one of those guys - they're called "Buskers" in the UK. It's also a word we use in the States, but not too often.
The genre is performance art, and Ren takes it to next level. Tom Waits is another brilliant performance artist
Tre's body language, the guy has clearly seen this video before and the crazy part is ,he still didn't get the twin at the end part
I’m just like ren… all my videos are one take… I never watch anything before I react to it…I want to capture my energy when I first hear it…sorry not sorry!!!
The look of him coming too at the start of Violets tale is the look Violet may have when she came too after the beating.
That is such a classical music rewind at 22.00....Beethoven, Mozart all used it.......the concept is to get you back in time.....................rewind
Subbed ❤ more ren....
Ren is just educated. He reads obviously a lot and that explains the richness of his speech, his metaphors and similes. Someone who"s not minimally educated cannot grasp that.
