I agree. In 2013 I bought a brand new Toyota 86 GTS. I was driving to work on a freeway and some clown had a trailer full of sand completely uncovered. Shit was going everywhere. I didn't notice immediately visually but heard the sound of my car being sandblasted and reacted quickly thankfully.
I don't really like the idea of increasing fines for anything but perhaps they could have a severe negligence fine and just basic unsecured load.

100% that’s just laziness from the trailer operator… they need a big fine and some education

I know in places like the Netherlands by law they have to put a plastic or cloth cover over their tray or trailer, similar laws need to be implemented in Australia. So many utes and trucks etc with their trays open.

I was once two cars behind a truck carrying gravel, the tarp flew off it and all the gravel started completely pelting a hsv grange in front of me. It was bad, I pulled over quickly and was lucky to only have three chips on my bonnet, the poor Grange was completely chipped and dented all over the front.

When I had to house sit dad's place in 2019/20, guess who the Police would always target at the booze busses, tradie's. I've started calling most 4WD -sorry but utes are Commodore's and Falcon's - drivers tradie twits because of how bad most of them drive, I've seen some treat round abouts as up-and-over-abouts and seen them drive over a center strip at a T junction, to get over the other side of the road because stuff everyone else, I've a 4WD. Similar to "I'm a truck, I don't give a f*ck"

I myself one night on a winters wet night coming up the western Fwy towards Ballarat at Bacchus Marsh . Came across a ramp from a truck that they use to load excavators on truck . It was right in the middle of the 2 lanes on the white line. Thankfully I didn't hit it.

I remember a case in Victoria a few years back a mum was driving between Bacchus Marsh an Geelong, towards Geelong. An on coming truck ran over a towbar (an ball) on road. It flicked up straight through her windscreen killing her instantly 😪

I had an incident last year where a I saw the Ute in front hit something and shoot sparks all underneath it. It was on the highway and we were both doing about 100km/h. A second after I saw the sparks I saw the big end of a tie down in the air about my head height a few metres in front of the car. Smashed the whole front end up and did massive damage to the underside. Was pretty scary at the time so I 100% understand your frustration.

Here in Melbourne I was driving on a major road a builder going the other way had an unsecured door in the back. It got loose and took off like a sail in the wind. If there were any cars behind him(thank f there wasn’t) it would’ve gone straight through a windscreen. I watched it in slow motion. It was scary. A house door in the air ffs

I did some work with an electrical apprentice a while back, always rushing to get the job done instead of doing it right, he hook out the broom and in and out about four times and didnt double check to secure the load ontop of the van. Almost had corry spilling out like spaghetti but the other sparky on site noticed before that thankfully.

One morning I was driving to work at 5am and I used to have a VS V8 and a guy pulled up beside me in a VN V8.
He tried to get me to race him but I didn’t and thank god I didn’t and ignored him.
If I had of raced him I would have had a big extension ladder in the cabin with me and my brother in law.
So I pulled up in front of him and made him stop and educated him on what his stupidity could have caused.
I did however get air after driving over it and he tried to tell his insurance I was lying about the situation.
Luckily were it happened there was a traffic camera and it proved what I said had happened and I got my Ute fixed by his insurance company.

Trucks are always harassed by the transport department. Particularly in WA. I think all vehicles towing or utes light trucks should be given more direct attention by enforcement with the law. Ropes are not aloud to be used to tie down a load. Its is to be tied down with ratchet straps with tonnage strength noticed. And mesh covers are also requested to loads that cannot be restrained with straps alone. I’m not being a snitch or lover of all laws. But I my self and I’m sure many many stories can be told by simply not doing as mentioned. It would save many lives and plenty of dollars.

@@RossReviewsau true buddy sorry bout your incident I live in Bridgetown and have really put a lot of time and effort into my G8 Fairlane. To have nails on the road go through my brand new Pirelli‘s tyres and a month back coming around a corner to clip a bloody old plastic milk crate that had paint all over it. Pisses me right off. As it cost me $3k to sort out the milk crate damage and $270 on my front steering tyre as they won’t repair the tyre for safety reasons as the nail went through the outer edge of the tread. Bugger hope the Ute is back to its former self less the paint and scratches it caused. Thanks for bringing this up on the channel mate. It makes good sense if we want to enjoy our cars most of us they are dailies and definitely don’t need the hassle or eventually someone being serious hurt of worse.
