And he's got the bruises to prove it.

I saw an update on Lucy and she is doing really well now.
crystalheart9 oh great, that’s good
Thank you for giving us an update. I was disappointed that there wasn't any follow-up video.
You're welcome, I don't like to be left hanging either. @@Bemmy1111
@@Bemmy1111 thx Bemmy that's good. I was wondering how she was. She's so pretty.
Actually they end up euthanizing her..sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
I forgot that most of his family work with him in the clinic
Doc Pol is my favorite show. I wish I could meet him & his family. He's from the Nederlands just like me (Nijmegen). 🧡 how much he cares 4 *all* animals & the way he teaches the pet parents. He's 2 the point but understanding.
Love you Dr. Pol...Mrs. Pol you hit the mega billions when you married your best friend..51 years strong!!!

Fun fact horses and zebras are way different, zebras are really aggressive and hard to train because they don't follow the same herd language horses do.
And they belong in the wild anyway. Zebras have extensive ranges in their natural habitat. So wrong to deny them their freedom.
@@cathyskywalker77 Agreed
They also can't be ridden due to the shape of their back and the placement of their kidneys.
@@DamnItMantis You don't even have to see them in those nature docs because of their very distinctive braying 😊
I haven't herd of herd language!
The cute excitement everyone has to go see the zebra in the family.😂
I can see why modern vets don't like this guy. He knows more about being a vet than any 40 year old. But, they think they have all the answers.

I Love The Incredible Doctor Pol ❤️❤️❤️💕💕💕
I watched a marathon of Dr Pol episodes and Lucy the Zebra was in two episodes this one and a later one, she was getting a little better by the end in this one (if anyone wondering what her injury was she was kicked in the head by her mother) but by the other later episode apparently because she was so over medicated at such a young age it badly damaged her guts and her health deteriated and they sadly had to put her down.

Why Americans have to hoard African animals is beyond me. The journey alone is enough to kill them.
The old timers simply administered the horse manure from a healthy horse because it has all the horse probiotics needed. Costs nothing and is effective. Foals eat their mother's manure to seed their gut with the necessary probiotics also. No different. It also doesn't hurt to add a little sugar so the bacteria has something to eat and stay alive until the horse's regular meal gets to his gut.
Prvacy Goune eeeeeewwww
no ewww. Kaopectolin plus buttermilk plus fresh manure from the animal's environment will re-establish the gut flora necessary for digestion.
Or just give it some yogurt. It’d happily eat that.
Old school I like it 😊 Simple and straight forward.
i would have suggested he go down the road to one of his Dairyman clients and obtain a cud or 2 from one or two of his cow clients! You might introduce Johne's disease if you introduced manure.
Golden zebra?! Omg!!!!! They are the rarest animal ever!!!
Aren’t they cute?? The Pols ❤️
I knew it! To see Dr. Pol's interaction with Diane, my mind wondering if she is his wife? They're cute couple ^^
They have been married for nearly 50 years, meeting when he was in vet school. Diane even moved to the Netherlands and learned Dutch while he was in training. They adopted 4 kids (I think) and resettled in Michigan. Their story is quite romantic and, if you keep watching, you can see their romantic and deep love for each other.
Love this show.

el dr pol se parece a mi papa, por eso me gusta verlo saludos

Sadly this Zebra ended up passing away later on. They never could figure out what was wrong with it. It wasn't just 'gut imbalance', they tried a variety of things but the poor thing was too weak and frail to be receptive to anymore medication and was euthanized.
I have a sneaking suspicion that she may have developed a clostridium dificil infection in her gut because the antibiotics destroyed all of her protective GI flora, leaving her susceptible to this deadly bacteria.
😞
That's not a horse with stripes.
THAT'S A ZEBRA!
Fun facts with josiah Moreno you aren’t the brightest bulb in the box are you?
This is the first time I see Dr. Pol wear gloves
Moralityx has he finger a horse without gloves on then
I have usually seen him wearing gloves when he puts his arm up a horse's behind but I have also seen him put his arm up a horse's behind without any gloves on. Unbelievable!
Dr.pol use his gloves when he's doing rectal exams but when he's delivering a baby he doesn't use the gloves because he's usually taking off his shirt and stuff so he can get his arms to where they need to go to help deliver the baby
Nice vet
Just like in humans animals need good bacteria to digest the salads they eat. We eat real yogurt to replace ours. Can zebras and horses have yogurt? Just curious.
Joyce Joseph You could probably make yogurt out of the corresponding animal's milk (zebra yogurt for zebras, so forth & so on) by adding yogurt starter, which I see at my local health food store. Just a packet of beneficial bacteria. I do know that some animals can't be fed cow milk...can't remember which, except for one: elephants. lol 😊
An easier course would be to sprinkle the appropriate probiotics onto the animal's normal food. I put probiotics on my pets' food a couple times a month, and always after a course of antibiotics to rebuild the gut bacteria. (People should do that, too.) I wonder if the same probiotics could be used for various animals. Probably not. I assume it would have to be tailored for effectiveness.
Interesting to ponder...
indeed some animals you shouldn't feed milk based stuff it has to do with after a certain age they can't handle it anymore. Others you can only feed theyre own milk.
But in these ages you have special stuff for these kind of problems ^^ I have a pony who has some stomach issues after he gets certain treatments. And we just order a sort of past which fixes his imbalance.
But there are lot of other ways. In cows they tend to feed feces from a healthy cow to calfs or cows that aren't well. So many ways.
I have also heard of fecal transplants in humans. I wonder if that would work in horses as well.
Joyce Joseph Just heard of that...as a last resort to treating multi-drug resistant c-diff. Interesting stuff...
Yes but not the most pleasant of imagery.
In our country lactobacilis is also known as YOGURT
NICE

RIP Lucy. . .
Cute zebra..never saw one with brown stripes though.
Baby zebras are born with brown and white stripes.
Babies have brown stripes and they get darker as they grow up. It's still a wee baby, but you can see they're getting darker.
My kitten is called Lucy =)

When he stuck his finger in it eugh
Canadian Economy It's all part of the job
Oh I remember this poor little zebra. Unfortunately after a very painful struggle trying whatever they could to help it just was too far gone between the stress and the antibiotics she was given for so long, it was really sad.
The horzebra is sick! Poor thing! I can't imaging eating food that I can't digest.
Leafy is that you . 0:03
Cadê a tradução?
That color of stripes is vary rare. So pretty
VideoGameGirl Plays the foal looks more sun bleached, but she looks very pretty in the brown!!!!!
VideoGameGirl Plays not rare
I 💙 her coat
No, it's still young. If she had survived her stripes would have turned black.
Lactobactilus? Can they just give the zebra Yogurt then?
I'm not sure if that Zebra is old enough to digest lactose content in Yogurt. Most mammals when they grow old lack lactase enzyme. A lactobacillus extraction from Yogurt might do.
Rahil Sethi Interesting! because lactose in yoghurt comes from a cow's mom which is less than lactose that comes from a zebra's mom.
***** hahah..
***** Yeah, but still, naturally animals lose lactase enzyme they grow old, probably to ease off the pressure on their mother to keep feeding them.
where I live we give something that looks like youghurt

Probios is the best probiotics I have ever used for my dogs. I strongly encourage every pet owner to have it on hand. Any signs of diarrhea or mushy stool? Put them on it instantly. My dogs are addicted to it, and will lick it off their food without even eating an actual bite of the food. lol They beg for it.
i want to know what happened next
And yet another cliff hanger
ваууууу
I had always wondered what his accent is?
Dutch
hi
Hello Dear
How are you doing today/
buttermilk, yoghurt, etc......
I bet Lucy got a bacteria, called clostridium dificil. Sometimes, it sets up shop in the intestines when the normal bacterial flora is upset, causing severe diarrhea, inflammation of the GI tract, bleeding in the GI tract, and kidney failure.
Those brown stripes are diagnostic for malnutrition.
This is called Azores it is a zebra half horse
Harvey Simmons Zorse* (:
So give it some curds?
Wouldn't have an issue if they didn't feed her and let her just eat grass/hay and be with her mother, always the issue people zebra's are not designed to have feed.
Wouldn't have an issue if it was just left in Africa where it belonged.
Horse zebra
Lactobacillus - good ole yogurt with active cultures.

Hola doctor Pol me llamo Valentina y soy de LABASTIDA pero no se Ingles pero puedes mentira para enseñar hello me i Noemí si Valentina
Why does the zebra have brown stripes not black
+Sofie and Paris Just like how humans have different skin colors, so does every other animal. Zebra's Stripes can range from a light brown (usually caused by amelanosi) to a very dark black. While most babies are born with lighter stripes, they darken as they get older, but some may just stay brown.
It's just how that one is, it's like how brown bears aren't always brown. some are tan, some are black, and etc. just how it is
Actually, it just hasn’t shed out it’s thick winter coat. They usually get sun bleached, and appear lighter, especially on younger animals. His/Her being sick for a long period of time can also effect the coat. After this foal regains it’s health, and sheds out of it’s winter coat, it should regain it’s shiny black stripes
There is different breed of them but babies mostly have brown as it’s easier for them to hide
She's still young
these days you can just go get probios at tsc
Hm... An amelistic zebra?
Lucy ended up passing
🦓🦓🦓
Wait is it a zebra or a horse?
It's a zebra Ithink. I believe they're just calling it a horse for fun. If I remember correctly zebras are closer to donkies, though I don't thik it makes that much of a difference medically.
I bet it was a zebra they just didn't want to day anything about it I bet.
+bodoron zerbras and horses can mate its close enough
Both
Zebra. And they should not be in captivity
Oof
Hehehe
So the zebra had c dif?

Someone forget the goat around...
First comment!!!
Boots over your shoes?? Am I missing something, is that normal?
They are larger boots that fit over shoes, like snow boots.. Paddocks are often muddy from rain and pee.. Also contain manure.. Normal office shoes would be ruined..

horse=zebra?
He said striped horse bur aren't zebras more on the donkey side of the things?

Breed it with a horse :D
Not safe. Zebras are considerably smaller than horses and while "zorses" do exist a female zebra can have problems giving birth to a large foal. Better a male zebra and a mare.
That's not a Striped Horse
It's a Zebra
It's lives in Africa.
