That mid trim piece comes out bottom then top edge. You need to lift the hat rack up about 6 inches to lift that top trim piece out and back in place to keep from damaging it. To keep from breaking the tab on the exterior trim piece, start from the rear end and work forward, not from the front end. Other than that, a great video and appreciate your work.
This is a great video. I keep checking back to see if anyone comments on how to remove the exterior side trim without snapping the little tab. You mentioned you broke 3 like that and I am leary about how to do this without ruining the trim.
@@HelpMeDIY First let me say , I did this yesterday and it worked great! I could not have done it without your video so THANK YOU! One caution...I forgot to line up where the front window and rear window meet so the seal is not good and I have to go adjust it. so anyone reading this DON'T FORGET THAT STEP. So about the side trim...I was able to pop out the first 4 clips as you did in the video, then instead of popping out the problematic clip, I just sort of slid the whole trim down still connected to the car. It exposed the hole and I was in business. ONE MORE BIT OF CAUTION FOR EVERYONE ELSE... My window was stuck in the down position so when I went for the E7 torx the glass was blocking it. No way to get to it. So I went to lowes and bought a serpentine belt tool (Item #1916362) and stuck a 13mm socket on it. I was able to slowly unscrew the bolt from inside the car. Anyway Thank you again!
That E7 underneath the exterior trim piece isn't revers thread, we are just going at it from the back side. But if saying it is reverse helps other understand the process, more power to them.
Hello, in what state are you in and do you do work on car for a price. I have e46 convertible and cannot get the windows to line up correctly and I’m tired of trying. I would like to pay someone to do this correctly.
Nice video and i have just started the process.... Everything is going okay however if you don't mind me asking at the beginning of the video ( 0.31 ) it shows the cover missing on the top trim and i would like to know how you got that off.... as when i lifted the top trim it came up easy but that part appears to have a cable under their stopping me from being able to get that top trim off and away from me working..... any help on the issue would be grateful..... Cheers
@@HelpMeDIY YEP..... after reading your message i decided to grab me balls and dig deeper...... It was a spring..... As my roof was down i pressed the close button and just let the rear lid were the roof goes come up and released the button.... had a look and there was the spring that i just unhooked.... Moral of the storey don't be scared of Plastic Crap...👍
shame i can't put pics up but for anyone out there with a M3 the rear exterior trim to get to the torx bolt outside of the car is not like the other E46 convert models as the trim has a different clip set and is magic coming off...... Just use a thin plastic removal tool...
I need help, I have a 2008 hardtop convertible 328i my roof is stuck down and my back passenger window won’t go down. All other windows are stuck down except that one. Is there anything I can do to get that window down
Thanks! Replaced my glass cause it got broken and I didn’t align it correctly and it has been bothering me forever! I’m going to finally take it out and fix it today. I just started messing with the bottom inverted torx thread from the outside to try to adjust it before I found out that it’s inside on the end of where the 13mm go. Bottom one popped out unfortunately so I gotta take the whole window out now and do it all over I believe.
And by the way thank you for this video! Helped me so much, the other one on bimmer merchant was good but did not give me any info I really needed and this did much more informative video.

I cant get to the bolt through the outside door panel because my window js stuck down. Any work arounds for that?

@@HelpMeDIY thank you for the response. It's stuck. I've given it some muscle but no luck. Thinking I may have to break the window.

+Zaniah Merentis sorry but it’s impossible to troubleshoot online. Research it or take it to a mechanic is my best advice.
Did you disconnect the battery for this? Just worried about those plugs to access top right 13mm

@@dontworry7897 Yeah that might be the one I watched to get an idea of what to do, but as you said, it was severely lacking in the important details!
How do you do this on a 4 series where the roof is stuck up. Cannot manually lower the roof?
+Gethypop I’m sure there is a way to manually lower it but I have no idea how
Did you find out how to do this? Have that problem now.
Can’t get chrome trim to stay down. Tried to pound it down with rubber mallet but comes out when you roll window up.
+kris keyton gahh!
The rear peg on the side trim needs to pull straight out, with no sidewards twist ... the plastic plug stays in the body...
